  1. Thomas takes unexpected leadpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    1UP McIlroy v Thomas (1)

So advantage McIlroy you would think. But wait, Justin Thomas takes his time lining up his 18 foot putt and he drops it. What a response. That shut the crowd up.

Rory's putt might feel a touch longer than six feet, oh and it's ghosted past the hole.

I did not expect that. Thomas is nails.

This is amazing I've got goosebumps now. And for the first time this week it's not because of the cold. You can say I've experienced playing in the Ryder Cup but I didn't experience this atmosphere. I just want to be in there now.

“Roooooory!” Is the cry at the first tee, while Justin Thomas is greeted by boos.

There’s a real sense of expectation, the grandstand is already rocking.

  4. Rory wallops it to six feetpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    McIlroy v Thomas

Down the first fairway, Justin Thomas goes first, 10 yard's behind Rory's ball. He's smacked it to about 18 feet.

But look at this, Rory lands it to six feet. What a start!

The crowd erupt and my BBC Radio 5 live colleagues are struggling to hear what they are saying. You can listen to their commentary and analysis at the top of this page.

A reminder of what the players are facing off the first tee.

This is what 2014 Ryder Cup winner Jamie Donaldson has to say on the matter:

You want it right of centre off the tee because the water comes in on the left if you pull it. There will be a lot of people bailing out to the right, and there will also be people poking it in the water. Both options are easy to do. But once the tee shot is away, the nerves will die down a bit, temporarily.

Stay right of the pin with your second shot. Anything on the left and the green runs away from you diagonally, so you want to be slightly right of the flag.

  6. Straight as an arrowpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    McIlroy v Thomas

Justin Thomas thumps his tee shot straight down the par-four first. Rory follows suit, and takes that bouncing walk of his down the fairway,

    Good luck lads.

  7. Thomas has the better recordpublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    McIlroy v Thomas

As the players are introduced, a reminder that Justin Thomas has a better record than McIlroy at the Ryder Cup this time around. Rory has two points from four, while rookie Thomas has forged a great partnership with Jordan Spieth to earn three points from four.

    Thomas to tee off first....

And he got to got have a chinwag with the BBC’s Peter Aliss this morning!

Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas are down on the tee, and the crowd are pumped.

Another Icelandic (or is it European now?) thunderclap is under way and it's almost at boiling point under the blue Parisian skies. Rory is joining in.

Rory McIlroy was up bright and early to be first on the range this morning. It’s a big day for the Northern Irishman, leading Europe out as they look to win back the Ryder Cup.

Justin Thomas followed him down, with Brooks Koepka and Paul Casey not far behind.

Justin Rose, who will go out third and face Webb Simpson, speaking on Sky Sports: "I don't think it really matters about the order, it's 12 guys against 12 guys and contributing to one common goal.

"The US team are world-class all the way through, but our boys are super committed.

"Singles are different, the team element changes today, but you try and dictate the tempo and rhythm as best you can."

  14. The most dangerous scoreline?published at 10:48 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Ten- six.

That's not a cushion. It is an extra-thick mattress of a lead. Right? Right?

Well, that is the exact scoreline that the Europeans slept on on Saturday night at Brookline in 1999. They ended up 14½-13½ losers via Justin Leonard's monster putt and a subsequent green invasion.

It is also the advantage that the United States had on Saturday night in 2012.

Before Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose roared out of the singles traps to lead the 'Miracle of Medinah' fightback.

This ain't done. Not by a long stroke.

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 live

Rory McIlroy is Europe’s biggest name. Thomas Bjorn says he trusts him to go and do the job. I think he’ll thrive in that position leading Europe, all eyes will be on Rory and I think has the potential to go out there and get blue on the board early.

He played pretty well on Friday afternoon. I think the position and responsibility will help him. It is a big call but I think if you put him anywhere else in that order it has a negative effect on him.

  16. Is Rory the man to lead Europe out?published at 10:42 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

First match tees off at 11:05 BST

    Sunday Singles

Doubts from our golf correspondent Iain Carter about Rory McIlroy leading out the field. Despite former European Ryder Cup player Oliver Wilson thinking that McIlroy can prove a talisman, Carter has rightly pointed out that the Northern Irishman has struggled on Sundays this season.

What do you think? Is Rory the man to turn it blue early on or will he wilt again?

Four and a half points from 12 matches.

That is what Europe need to wrest the Ryder Cup from American hands.

Where do you see them coming?

How about Open champion Francesco Molinari who is paired with out-of-sorts Phil Mickelson?

Patrick Reed was all over the shop yesterday. Is he is easy meat for Tyrrell Hatton?

Dustin Johnson, yippy and gippy on Saturday, against a revved up Ian Poulter?

How's Tiger Woods back? He is up against the Spanish bull Jon Rahm.

Tommy Fleetwood, four points out of four so far this week, takes on Tony Finau, who has had a distinctly less successful Ryder Cup debut.

Those are my five picks for 4.5 points.

    What have you got?
