    Fleetwood v Finau

Tommy Fleetwood, who set a European record by winning four matches from four alongside Francesco Molinari, is on his own today and finds the bunker at the first.

Tony Finau is safely on the green and has a 12-footer for birdie.

    Fleetwood v Finau

    Craig Connelly
PGA & European Tour caddie for BBC Radio 5 live

I'm sure you would always miss a good friend by your side, but Tommy Fleetwood won the French Open here last year.

He's got all the course knowledge he needs. He's in form, he'll go out and play his best.

Sometimes if you're best is not good enough it's not good enough, but I expect Tommy to put on a real show today.

Rory is finding his range on the putting green already. Another eight footer is good enough for par and another winning hole. He's turned a deficit into a two-hole lead in the last three.

    Ominous for the US?

  5. Fleetwood safely off the firstpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Fleetwood v Finau

The rookie star of the European team Tommy Fleetwood gets under way against Tony Finau as the pair of them strike fiercely down the first and find the middle of the fairway.

Apparently one bookmaker offered odds before the start of play of 500-1 that all 24 players hit the first fairway. So far, all 10 have been successful.

  6. Rose slips one down after errorpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Rose v Simpson 1 UP (2)

Argh! Last weekend Justin Rose was stroking home putts for ten million dollars in the FedExCup like it wasn't a thing.

Today, the gremlins have got to even him.

His putt rinks round and out from two feet on the second and Webb Simpson has his nose in front.

On the par-five third, Brooks Koepka finds the green with his second, it's 30 feet away, and sails his putt past the hole. But he makes the second putt for birdie.

Can Paul Casey match him from six feet? Yes. All square.

  8. Rahm goes one uppublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    1 UP Rahm v Woods (1)

Never a doubt, never a wobble.

After his own excellent approach and Tiger Woods' missed long-ranger, Jon Rahm is left with a thee footer for the hole.

Nothing but net, as they say in the NBA. It drops right into the heart of the hole.

  9. Rose misses difficult birdie chancepublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Rose A/S Simpson (1)

Justin Rose has a fiddly putt from the back of the second green to try and win the hole.

He gives it a good stab, but rolls four foot past.

  10. Rory in botherpublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    1 UP McIlroy v Thomas (3)

Rory McIlroy is in trouble at the fourth, finding the rough. Justin Thomas also misses the fairway but his grassy company is less thick. He has a clear shot into the green but pulls it slightly left and is on the fringe.

Rory digs it out and leaves his approach short of the table top. Neck and neck.

  11. Rahm close on onepublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Rahm v Woods

Tiger Woods' second shot into the first green, pinged up into the back of the green. Still a good 30 foot to make his birdie from there though.

Jon Rahm has about a sixth of that distance to putt after whipping an absolute dead-eyed iron right up to within six feet.

Big chance for the big man.

    Pete Cowen
Golf coach on BBC Radio 5 live

I think it will be fairly even, I think an even split of points, and that is all we need. 16 points for the European team, I will be very happy with that.

  14. Rose & Simpson all square off the firstpublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Rose A/S Simpson (1)

Justin Rose's long-range birdie putt rolls up to within two feet. Is that a gimme? Not today.

Webb Simpson asks his opponent to finish up his leftovers. Rose does not drop them down his shirt, burying the tiddler into the heart of the hole.

All square off the first green.

Nick: What? Singles Sunday, and I'm expected to go shopping! Come on.

Paul: One of the best things about the Ryder Cup is hearing a huge roar which bears no relation to what's going on. Meaning that something spectacular, usually involving a European player, is happening elsewhere.

  16. Woods & Rahm safe off the first teepublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Rahm v Woods

Tiger Woods off the first tee and he won't want that one back. A hint of fade, a whipcrack off the face and that is down the middle.

Jon Rahm looks happy with that as well, striding after a textbook fairway splitter.

  17. McIlroy one uppublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    1 UP McIlroy v Thomas (3)

Up on the third, Justin Thomas splashes out of the bunker but it slides past about six to eight feet. Thomas goes again and misses.

Rory gets to within eight feet and nails it. McIlroy ahead. Nerve settler.

  18. Simpson misses long-range birdie puttpublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Rose v Simpson

Webb Simpson to putt first on the first green, a well-weighted putt, cosying up to within half a foot.

Justin Rose has a snaking 30-footer to win the hole.

  19. Match four en routepublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

Jon Rahm and Tiger Woods are on their way down to the first tee in match four.

    An intriguing one that one.

The beauty of matchplay is a shocking hole, only counts for.....one hole.

Fresh from finding water on the first, Paul Casey sinks a monster putt on the second to take it back to all-square.

Casey fist-bumps vice-captain and long-time friend Luke Donald as he heads off the green.
