Tyrrell Hatton, speaking to Sky Sports after his loss 3&2 loss to Patrick Reed: "On a personal note, it's disappointing to not help the team today, but looking at the bigger picture, it's been an honour to be part of the team.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be on the winning team. The guys have been fantastic from the team room to the golf course and it's very special to be part of it.

"Nothing comes close to it, not even a major. The support you get walking on to every green, it's so loud."

Henrik Stenson, speaking to Sky Sports: "It makes it even more special but we knew we were strong and had depth and had a lot of players with amazing seasons. To deliver the point has been a very special thing to be part of.

"It is going to be a long night and week to remember forever.

"I was never worried with Thomas in charge. He spent endless hours he put into this - nutrition, tactical decisions - it is all about getting the pairings."

Rickie Fowler, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "I'm not saying that's a luck thing. Sometimes they go inm sometimes they don't.

"We left it all out there. The Ryder Cup is the best week in your career you have to embrace them as much as you can.

"You can assume I'm probably not feeling the best but it's been a great week here. I've been impressed with the turn-out in France. The fans in Paris have been great fun to be around.

"When people boo you it's kind of fun being on the receiving side. Everything has been great. The locals have been very welcoming. The European fans are respectful knowledgeable fans. They rub us a little bit but that's part of sport.

"I would say if you looked back the European team maybe hit a few more fairways. It felt like they putted a lot better than us. I hit a couple but had a lot more that missed and it seemed like that for the rest of our team."

Thomas Bjorn, or "cuddly Thomas" as some of the players call him, is leading the "ole" chants now.

Can’t wipe the smile off him.

Europe's Rory McIlroy speaking to Sky Sports: "The fact that all 12 players got points validates what Thomas Bjorn has tried to do with the team. Thomas has been great, constantly in contact with those who were involved or were on the fringes, it has been a bit of a love-in over the past week on the Whatsapp group and I think the friendships forged this week will last a lifetime. The party tonight will be extra special."

Rory McIlroy has just been asked to start the thunderclap, and of course he does!

That’s become a real fixture of this Ryder Cup among fans. A touch of Iceland on the outskirts of Paris.

The European players are determined to enjoy this moment, you can’t blame them.

  9. 'This is my top Ryder Cup'published at 16:51 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Europe win the Ryder Cup

More from the European captain Thomas Bjorn on BBC Radio 5 live: "There was a moment where I thought the momentum is going against us now but I looked at a couple of guys Thorbjorn [Olesen] and Henrik [Stenson] and they were well up.

"That gives you a bit of calmness as you know those matches will be difficult to swing against you. That middle order did so well for us because when you lose the first few matches it is always difficult.

"Some people say golf is boring. Well, this is certainly not boring. I’ve experienced a lot of Ryder Cups but this is the top one."

United States captain Jim Furyk, speaking to Sky Sports: "There was a time this morning where it looked like we had a chance, but hats off to Europe, who turned it around. Congratulations to Thomas and all 12 of his players, who played excellently.

"I will take a bit of time to digest and regroup and go through some things with the PGA. I love these guys. It was an honour to serve as their captain and I had five of my best friends as vice-captains.

"Fatigue would be making an excuse. The course set-up is interesting, it is tight, but Thomas Bjorn did his job better than I did and credit to him."

Top marks to Le Golf National. The players are the stars of course, but this golf course has been fantastic, and played a telling part in the thrills and spills this week.

Meanwhile, Ian Poulter, a man they like to call Postman Poults for the way he always delivers, has found a fancy dress costume of a postbox! He's put it on, and is parading round the course in front of fans.

    The photographers cannot get enough.

  15. 'It will take a long time to settle in'published at 16:40 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

Thomas Bjorn, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "I’m feeling good, that’s for sure. It will take a long time before it settles in properly.

"It's been hard work but the least hard work has been the players from when the first ones were picked to the last ones. They've been amazing from start to finish.

"It's been fairly easy to captain them. We are just delighted. A while ago I thought the American team was very strong and difficult to beat, and as I stood on the first tee today and watched those American guys I thought, 'that's a strong line-up'. But everyone showed up with their best attitude and golf."

Now he’s doing laps of the 18th green with his arm in the air.

    Loving it.

  18. 'I was fortunate to get a pick as an old man'published at 16:36 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

Ian Poulter speaking to Sky Sports: "This is a special team. I was fortunate to get a pick as an old man to come and play and I helped out a bit. These boys were incredible though.

"In Europe we are a strong force and we knew we were the underdogs but that made us more determined."

On Tommy Fleetwood: "He's different class. It's truly exceptional what he did with the first four points out of four, I don't know if anyone has done that before. He was great fun to have in the team room, great to play alongside and simply amazing."

On the US team: "On paper they are simply incredible. Strong, gutsy determined and hard to beat but that resilience we showed on Friday to come back with the run on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, with a lot of blue on the board helped us to be super strong in the singles."

    • Europe have won the Ryder Cup, their seventh victory in the last nine contests.

    • And Sergio Garcia won his third point of the event to overtake Sir Nick Faldo and become the leading Ryder Cup points scorer with 25½ points.
    • Oh and Alex Noren and Bryson DeChambeau are still out on the course. Noren is 1 UP going down the 16th.

Those scenes on the 17th earlier were crazy. Once one fan skipped the rope the stewards had no chance of stopping the rest following.

Sergio Garcia was like the Pied Piper. Everybody wanted to follow him.

It was close to spilling out of control. Luckily things calmed down pretty quickly.
