    Spieth +3 (6)

Jordan Spieth's tyres are spiked by a double bogey five at six. The putts just are not dropping...

  2. Golf's mad scientistpublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    DeChambeau -1 (7)

Bryson DeChambeau is a clever cookie. He has a specially designed set of irons - all the same length - and is constantly tweaking his technique and kit looking to eke out an advantage.

Listen to him in this Masters YouTube video explaining the physics of skipping the ball across the water on 16.

He would be one just mad enough to try it for real.

    DeChambeau -1 (7)

We almost have an eagle to deal with, courtesy of the mad scientist. Bryson DeChambeau flicks a chip which lips around the cup. More on him next...

  4. Postpublished at 20:54 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Woods, Rahm -3 (16)

On the 16th... Tiger Woods's tee shot lands left of the flag. A birdie chance? Yes, but it'll be a tough one. The 14-time major winner knows he can't be too aggressive, otherwise it could fly past the hole, so leaves it just short. The par putt is a formality.

Playing partner Jon Rahm's isn't quite straightforward. He's already laced a long birdie putt past the hole, but nails the return to keep pace at the top.

  5. Poulter back to one underpublished at 20:53 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Poulter -1 (9)

Ian Poulter slips up as it attempts to take the racing line around the turn at nine. A bit of bunker trouble, a bit of back and forth on the putting green and that is all it takes.

  6. Shots for Rory and Rickiepublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    McIlroy E (15), Fowler -2 (15)

Rory McIlroy makes his sublime approach to 15 count by making birdie having lagged his eagle putt close.

Rickie Fowler makes mince meat of it, sending his second just short of the green before chipping close and holing out. Textbook par-five golf by Fowler and he's a shot off the lead.

  7. Slow going round Amen Cornerpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Peter Scrivener
    BBC Sport at Augusta National

It may be one of the most beautiful settings in golf but wow it can be slow going round Amen Corner.

A ball thuds into the 11th green. "Is that Tiger's?" asks a lone voice. A second follows moments later. "Is that Tiger's?" asks the same voice. Nobody knows for sure.

Turns out the first was Tiger's ball. The second belonged to Jon Rahm. The Spaniard drained his birdie putt to warm applause. Tiger received just as much for his two-putt par.

There's no shouting allowed at Augusta National remember but that doesn't stop a couple of brave patrons giving it the "C'mon Tiger" as they take the short stroll to the 12th tee.

Over on the 13th, Tommy Fleetwood pulls his drive down the left and takes an age to hack out.

Tiger and playing partners Jon Rahm and Haotong Li stand patiently on the 13th tee. Even golfing royalty must wait sometimes. Eventually, a perfect drive from Tiger and his ant-like army move on...

...as do I, back to the media centre. I hear a big roar behind me as I approach the eighth fairway. It can mean only one thing...a Tiger birdie on 13.

  8. What a shot!published at 20:45 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    McIlroy +1 (14)

    McIlroyImage source, Getty Images

Rory McIlroy pulls out the wizard stick and sends one up, over cloud nine and onto the green to set up a long eagle putt.

He has no right to do this. Some may say they should ban him from the state of Georgia. He goes over trees, full, hard swing, trajectory aplenty and it comes plunging back to earth to settle on the green.

Break out the applause, give that lad a sticker.

Mark: Cullen Skink - Haggis, Neeps and Tatties - Clootie Dumpling. Probably more St Andrews than Augusta

Martin: I would start with a nice shellfish soup followed by a main of a 28oz Ribeye steak with Cabbage, Carrot & Swede and Mashed potato. Finish off as a Sussex not with Banoffee Pie.

James: Minestrone Soup followed by Sirlion Steak, Chips, Onion Rings, Mushrooms and Peas. With Bread and Butter Pudding for dessert.

    Casey +5 (5)

Order some bubble wrap, a punchbag, a squash court for delivery to the 19th. Paul Casey is going to need to bust some stress when he gets back from this round.

The Englishman duffs his escape from a fairway bunker, lobs his sand wedge back at the back in frustration.

He is shipping some serious water. His double bogey moves him to five over after five. We can all do the maths about where this is heading on current trends and it is nowhere pretty.

    Woods, Rahm -3 (15)

Eeek. Nervy times for both Woods and Rahm - at opposite ends of the hole - but both come through unscathed.

A par apiece, a share of the lead remains.

  13. A happy half dozen...published at 20:39 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

The leading pack is swelling in numbers quicker than a teenage house party whose details have been leaked on social media.

Twenty minutes after two men were at the top - Justin Harding and Jon Rahm - the figure has tripled.

After Tiger Woods and Patton Kizzire turned up, Adam Scott and Gary Woodland have joined the party.

Scott, the 2013 champion, birdies three of the last four holes to card a 69.

  14. Rory anger, Rickie optionspublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    McIlroy +1, Fowler -1 (14)

Rory McIlroy beginning to let the Augusta frustration show. He hooks off the tee on 15 and kicks his leg out in anger.

That's a par five and he probably feels he needs something there to rekindle this round a little. That drive may mean he can't see the green so can't attack it and set up eagle.

Rickie Fowler going along nicely alongside him, like a summer breeze. He splits the fairway to leave all his options on the table.

  15. Rose one overpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Rose +1 (5)

Justin Rose puts some patrons at risk. His tee shot at the par-four fifth just ploughs straight on rather than fading into the dog leg.

No-one injured, no lawyers hired. But he is playing catch-up for the rest of the hole.

He needs a 14-footer to drop for par, but it stubbornly stays on the top deck of the bus and the world number one has his first bogey to chew on.

    Poulter -2 (7)

    Ian PoulterImage source, Getty Images

Are they teal pants? I'm not quite sure - but only Ian Poulter can get away with wearing the sort of colour you might put on a feature wall at home.

The rest of his attire is very coordinated matching the start he's made.

Now just one off the lead - currently tied fifth with seven other players on a packed leaderboard.

  17. Postpublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Woods, Rahm -3 (14)

"Down. Down. Down! Oh my gawd."

Tiger's not happy. He's put his approach on the par-five 15th through the back. Perhaps he shouldn't have been loading up the dumbbells to get those sculpted guns...

Meanwhile, Rahm's ball - after eager fans gravitate to it like moths to light - is safe. After knocking out onto the fairway, he's plays another safety to find the green. Danger averted...

    Jordan SpiethImage source, Getty

Remember when Jordan Spieth was the champion-in-chief, a legend forming in front of our very eyes?

There is still plenty of time for all that to come to past of course for the 25-year-old.

But from the highs of 2015 when he finished in the top five in all four majors, winning two, or 2017's Open victory, he has slipped a long way.

Currently 33rd in the world, his best result this year is a tie for 24th at the World Golf Championships.

He is back to one over after a bogey five at three.

    Woods, Rahm -3 (14)

Well, it can't be Justin Harding in trouble - he's back in the clubhouse with a pimento cheese buttie and a pint of sugary cola.

So that leaves Tiger Woods and Jon Rahm. It's Rahm. The combustible Spaniard drops his driver to the deck, immediately pointing left and stretching his vocal cords with a 'Foreeee!'
