    Woods -6, Rahm -5 (17)

Line up with the bunker, fade left to right, end up on the fairway. Then repeat.

Tiger Woods and Jon Rahm are both reading from the same page (the 18th) of the 'How To Play Augusta National' handbook.

  2. Big birdies!published at 00:11 British Summer Time 13 April 2019

Schauffele -6 Fleetwood -2 (both finished)

Tommy Fleetwood has hustled a bit I must say. He smoothly sends home a short putt on 18 for birdie and reaches two under. He picked the two shots up on the back nine, showing some proper grind.

But step aside sir, Xander Schauffele is putting for a 65 from similar distance. He briefly hesitates as his ball threatens to break but it's in and he's in contention alright.

    Woodland -3 (18)

"About time", says Gary Woodland as he drops a birdie putt in in 18. The big guy - a former basketball scholar - has hit some superb approaches in today and made very little with the short stick.

  4. Postpublished at 00:08 British Summer Time 13 April 2019

    Woods -6, Rahm -5 (17)

Good birdie effort from Rahm who ends up just short.

Woods to tie for the lead... he slides it right. An icy stare indicates Tiger thinks the ball should have moved left.

  5. Postpublished at 00:07 British Summer Time 13 April 2019

    McIlroy E (16) Schauffele -5 (17)

We are seeing some classy golf.

Rory McIlroy holes a snake of a putt on 16. That's got to be 30ft or more navigated. Huge birdie.

Xander Schauffele almost slam dunks from the 18th fairway and will have two feet for a birdie and six under.

McIlroy off the tee on 17... trees. He's been like a magnet for them lately.

  6. Postpublished at 00:06 British Summer Time 13 April 2019

    Woods -6, Rahm -5 (16)

Jon Rahm joins Tiger Woods on the top deck of the 17th, although he has a little further to travel.

A real joy to watch these two today. And I suspect Haotong Li - their third wheel, who is one over today and for the tournament - thinks so too.

    Woods -6, Rahm -5 (16)

Somebody bottle this up and sell it for a fortune. This is VINTAGE Tiger Woods.

The 14-time major champion, searching for a first biggie since the 2008 US Open, knocks a 163-yard approach to within a ladder's length of another birdie.

    Chirp, chirp.

  8. Wizadrypublished at 00:00 British Summer Time 13 April 2019

    Oosthuizen -7 (18)

    Enough is enough.

Louis Oosthuizen has one foot out of the bunker and one in it on 18. His ball is partly buried and he looks destined to give one away. He digs it and the ball looks like it comes to rest just outside the bunker but the wizard has judged this and it starts rolling, coming to rest within six feet for his par.

Can he roll it in though? You better believe it. Special.

He shares the lead and is in the clubhouse for a pint, or maybe a protein shake.

    Woods -6, Rahm -5 (16)

Eyes fixed on the back of the ball, no hint of frustration... Jon Rahm likes his drive on 17. And so he should. The world number eight's ball skips off the damp fairway and bounds past Tiger Woods's effort.

  11. Rory given par...published at 23:54 British Summer Time 12 April 2019

    McIlroy +1 (15) Schauffele -5 (17) Oosthuizen -7 (17)

To all the Rory fans I apologise. I thought he'd crashed one into the green to leave a birdie putt on 15 but he must have been penalised early on the hole as he's been given only a par from what I can see.

Not ideal when you need something to happen.

Louis Oosthuizen under pressure in a green-side bunker on 18, Xander Schauffele in for par on 17.

No one wants to give an inch as they scrap for position...

    Woods -6, Rahm -5 (16)

If Tiger sinks this birdie putt from 40 feet then Augusta might need to call in extra security to quell the mania.

Sets off nicely.... but not enough gas. A par will have to do.

Jon Rahm leaves his short too. He has a testy one down the hill to negotiate, a touch of left to right... bye bye ball. The Spaniard is grinding more than a peppercorn pot.

Tiger Woods and Jon Rahm both find the dancefloor on the 16th. Quite apt as they are doing a golfing fandango.

    McIlroy +1 (14)

Rory has something to shout about.

He fishes his ball out of the shelf in the front of the aforementioned golf buggy and plays out of trees. His third shot is a masterful one into this green and he has a birdie chance from maybe 10ft on 15. Needs it. Neeeeedsss it!

    Day.

    Koepka.

    Scott.

    Oosthuizen.

    Tiger.

    DJ.

The leaderboard reads like a golfing supergroup. The top seven all have a major trophy sat on their mantelpiece at home.

    Wow.

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

That was right into the middle of the hole. He is in the mood and on the march. As soon as the ball dropped he strode towards the hole like the Tiger Woods of old.

That is a standing ovation for Tiger Woods. He has got it going after a break in play here.

He is staring down the pin at 16 and looking at how he can make another birdie. That really did send a shiver down the spine.

Hope they handed out noise-reducing ear plugs on the Augusta gates - the roar on the 15th green is almost deafening.

You know why. Tiger Woods rolls back the years as he rolls in that 25-foot putt.

Birdie-birdie puts the 14-time major winner one off the lead...

Meanwhile, Rahm shows his scrapping skills - not for the first time today - to get up and down from the side of the green.

    Scott -7 (18)

Take a bow, Scotty. Another par to finish and Adam Scott signs for a 68. Coupled with his opening 69 that puts the 2013 champion in a very good position.

  20. McIlroy drives onto a golf buggy...published at 23:39 British Summer Time 12 April 2019

    Rory McIlroy right now...

    RollercoasterImage source, Getty Images

It's a rocky ride. He's into the trees on 15. Now, this is a par five and he duffed the last one up by making a six.

So far on par fives today he's gone bogey, eagle, bogey.

You'd think he needs a couple of birdies on his way in here to salvage any hope.

Hang on, what's this? His ball has come to rest on the dashboard of a golf cart. He will get a drop but maybe he could drive it 100 yards up the fairway first. I'd try that for sure...
