    Bjerregaard -4 (8) Spieth -6 (13)

The putts are dropping, Jordan Spieth continuing his fine round with a solid par save on 13. Spieth had to spread his legs and get low in a bunker so he could swipe under his ball and leave it within six feet. Lovely up and down.

Over to Lucas Bjerregaard on the eighth. The big Dane birdied seven and there's another her with a wonderful putt. The guy is playing some golf I tell you.

The scorer had the number seven out ready to move Tommy Fleetwood up the board before the birdie putt had even dropped at 15, he’s obviously confident in the Southport man’s putting right now. Absolutely firing.

  3. Bogey for Holmespublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Holmes -7 (9)

A rare putting error for JB Holmes.

His par effort pulls up short from about 6ft and that’s his first dropped shot of the day.

The American shares the lead with Tommy Fleetwood now.

  4. Clarke under waypublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Clarke E, Sugrue E, Hoffman -1 (1)

Darren Clarke got the honour of teeing off the tournament yesterday.

The 50-year-old has got a bit of a lie-in this morning though. The 2011 winner is just through the first, playing alongside American Charley Hoffman and Irish amateur James Sugrue.

  5. 68 for Van Rooyenpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Van Rooyen -4 (F)

Erik Van Rooyen has had a decent day of golf today, but has mostly been turning heads because of his trousers.

In golf terms, they’re pretty outrageous, with a sort of tight bit at the ankles in the style of some tracksuits (shock, horror).

The South African’s second shot on the par-four 18th lands on the far-right of the green and he two-putts to finish with a par.

A healthy position to be in going into the weekend.

  6. Birdie!published at 11:57 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Fleetwood -7 (15)

A wonderful putt from Tommy Fleetwood, breaking, pace needs to be good, looks good, is good.

Tommy Fleetwood makes it to seven under with three to play.

So what next? I'll tell you, he tees off into the rough on 16, a hole which has brutalised a few cards yesterday.

  7. Hatton in big, big troublepublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Hatton -3 (16)

    Oh no.

Tyrrell Hatton in the horror rough on 16. He takes a swipe at it and it doesn't move. He takes another swipe and guess what... it doesn't move. Shot number four on a par three sees him dig this ball up and onto the dancefloor, leaving 15ft for double bogey. These are ugly times.

Man he could do with draining this.... he does. Not for the first time Hatton finds a key putt.

  8. Postpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Holmes -8 (8)

After a par on the eighth, JB Holmes gives his birdie putt the lightest of touches on the ninth green. It stays left and the leader will have to hope for another par.

  9. Postpublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Fleetwood -6 (14)

    Alex Bysouth
    BBC Sport at Royal Portrush

Right, you’re six under and going along very nicely... now just to navigate the tricky, undulating 15th and Calamity Corner at 16 - where Open hopes can literally slide off a cliff with one skew off the tee.

    Easy does it, Tommy.

  10. Birdie for Woodspublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Woods +5 (6)

    Scratch that!

Momentarily forgot this was Tiger Woods. He lands a huge birdie putt, it curls round to the right just at the end to drop in.

Even Matt Wallace gives a little fist pump in celebration.

    Woods +6 (5)

Tiger swings with an iron on the sixth tee. The ball lands just the wrong side of a mound on the green and leaves Woods unlikely to get his second birdie of the day.

  12. A waste...published at 11:44 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Hatton -5 (15)

    Oh Tyrrell, Tyrrell.

The world-number 43 plays an unbelievable shot on 15, over the flag and within maybe 10ft for birdie. The putt though is never in in a month of Sundays. He hated it as soon as he hit it.

  13. Birdie birdiepublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Johnson -2 (6), Els -2 (8)

World number two Dustin Johnson is moving in the right direction with a birdie on the short sixth.

Another man to get to two under par is 2002 and 2012 Open champion Ernie Els. The 49-year-old rolling showing there's life in him yet. Successive birdies for the South African.

More quality from you guys in sending us your rascal golf clobber. Tommy Fleetwood is playing out of his skin and out of his dicey shirt but that's no reason to ever shelve the naughty threads.

    Keep them coming to #bbcgolf.

  15. Par for Woodspublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Woods +6 (5)

    Oh Tiger...

Woods spins his putter round in the air as his birdie attempt pulls up just short. That was painful.

He started the day with a birdie, but that's a fourth par.

  16. Tweet tweetpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Koepka -5 (13)

It's been a reasonably quiet round for Brooks Koepka. Up until the last half hour that is.

He marches onto the 13th green and knocks in his birdie putt with the confidence of a man who knows he has been playing within himself.

Successive birdies and the American is just three off the lead.

  17. Postpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Woods +6 (4)

Tiger Woods ends up with a par on the fourth and is preparing to chip on from just in front of the green on the par-four fifth.

This is where he made his first bogey yesterday and that was followed by four more over the next five holes.

His second shot looks alright today, though, and he should have a go at a birdie.

  18. Bogey!published at 11:29 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Hatton -5 (14)

Tyrrell Hatton cannot get himself out of trouble with another colossal putt. The 14th shakes its head and says 'no thank you' as his putt to save par goes close.

  19. A Koepka charge?published at 11:28 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Koepka -4 (12)

The par-three 13th hole is called Feather Bed - as in you have to land the ball as light as you can on the green, which is a good way below the tee.

Brooks Koepka, fresh off that birdie on the 12th, hits a high iron, which lands as softly as you like and dribbles out to six feet from the hole.

There is zero wind on this hole and that's making it way too easy.

    Fleetwood -6 (13)

Tommy Fleetwood with a beauty on 13 - a par three. Birdie chance and in she goes. Two off the lead, he looks to have his house in order.
