    Woods +6 (1)

Tiger Woods goes for a putter to get up the slope and onto the green on the second. He’s underestimated how steep the bank is, though.

It takes a few seconds to make up its mind on whether to roll back down or not, but decides to stay.

Woods' next putt stays left of the hole and it should just be a par now.

  2. What a save...published at 10:46 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Hatton -5 (11)

You've got to be kidding me. Tyrrell Hatton downs a putt from off the back of the 11th green to save par. Must have been 35ft or so.

    And we have new leader...

    Van Rooyen -4 (13)

Erik van Rooyen misses another birdie opportunity on the 13th.

Admittedly, it's about 40ft out and is not a putt many of us would expect to make. But this is The Open and when you're two off the lead, you don't want to be missing those.

    Just a par.

  4. Co-leader...published at 10:44 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Spieth -6 (8) Hatton -5 (10) Bjerregaard -2 (3) Finau -2 (3)

    Wow it's all happening suddenly.

So Jordan Spieth rolls home a 25 footer as if he shelling peas, that is five shots gained in four holes - birdie-birdie-eagle-birdie. He shares the lead with J.B Holmes.

Tyrrell Hatton is in some trouble, waist-high grass to be specific. He hacks out but will be hitting his third shot from some way back from the 11th green. Here it comes... needs to go close really... through the back. He looks angry and is saying as much to his caddie.

Lucas Bjerregaard and Tony Finau miss birdie chances on three.

  5. Relief for Tommypublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Alex Bysouth
    BBC Sport at Royal Portrush

Punters can see the ninth green from grandstands at the ninth, 11th and 14th and there was a nervous lull as they watched Tommy Fleetwood approach that par-saving putt before the silence quickly broke into roars of relief as it dropped.

He’ll get a glimpse of one of the big yellow scoreboards as he saunters down the 10th fairway too, just a little reminder he’s still well in contention.

  6. Top two in the worldpublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Koepka -4 (9), Johnson E (2)

Over on the ninth and Brooks Koepka is firing from the rough to the right of the fairway. Straight at the pin. A hop and a skip and another birdie chance from 30 feet.

It's a decent attempt but that's another par.

Back on the second, Dustin Johnson, the world number two, is back to level par for the tournament.

  7. Postpublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Woods +6 (1)

Tiger Woods' second shot on the par-five second lands in a little hollow to the left of the green.

The American's not too bad at chipping on so it could still be back-to-back birdies.

  8. Curling the jug...published at 10:35 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Rose -2 (2) Bjerregaard -2 (2) Finau -2 (2)

Lucas Bjerregaard plays a lovely iron off the tee into the third green. A putt there would move him to three under. Tony Finau plays it similarly and will also get a birdie look.

Justin Rose... for birdie on two... always in. It feels like there are 2,874 players on two under and in with a shout.

Bjerregaard lists his personal interests as "weightlifting" on The Open website. He wouldn't mind doing dumbbell curls with the Claret Jug would he.

  9. Rahm under waypublished at 10:34 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Rahm -3 (1)

Jon Rahm, from 180 yards, on the first. He's staring it down. If you were a ball, you'd obey. And down it plops on the right of the green. An outside chance of a birdie to get the day started.

Tiger Woods just holed from similar range. Rahm can't match him though. Doesn't borrow enough and the slope takes his ball right. Par start.

  10. Van Rooyen settles for parpublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Van Rooyen -4 (12)

Erik Van Rooyen overcooks his second shot on the par-five 12th . It flies over the flag and trickles off the back of the green.

His eagle putt has a decent line but, again, it's a bit too heavy and he's still got work to do for a birdie.

Turns out it's too much work. The South African ends up with a par and, probably, the feeling that he's missed an opportunity.

    Woods +6 (1)

A much more comfortable tee shot for Tiger Woods on the second, it bounces away from the rough on the left and stops short of a bunker.

He might be able to get onto the green from there. It couldn't be an eagle... could it?

  13. Holmes maintains his leadpublished at 10:27 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Holmes -6 (4)

JB Holmes gets onto the green in two and has a birdie chance on the fourth.

The current leader's putt stays out left, but it's a tap-in for par.

  14. Eaglepublished at 10:24 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Spieth -5 (7)

    His fist is clenched.

Jordan Spieth makes eagle on seven. That's four shots gained in three holes.

From off the green he putts up and over a ridge and with the flag in, in she goes.

One off the lead. A big round.

  15. Tiger's out and firingpublished at 10:24 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Woods +6 (1)

Tiger Woods looks like Tiger Woods again on the first.

The crowd around the first green are treated to a vintage birdie putt from the 15-time major champion.

It curls round from left to right and drops straight in the middle. Only 12 shots to make up now...

  16. Koepka drains par saverpublished at 10:23 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Koepka -4, Oosthuizen -2 (8)

Louis Oosthuizen's recent misery with the putter continues. A par putt on the eighth refuses to drop and he's dropping back.

Brooks Koepka from a similar distance. Bang in the middle. That's why he's world number one.

  17. Postpublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Holmes -6 (3)

Leader JB Holmes came away with a par on the third. His tee shot on the par-four fourth goes a decent distance, but rolls backwards into the short rough.

It's still not a bad position, though.

He’s not one of the world’s top golfers, he’s a very naughty boy...

Justin Thomas almost feels the wrath of the marshals after deciding to skip the ropes instead of taking the newly built player tunnel between eight and nine.

The staff manning that route won’t be happy!

    Woods +7

After a tetchy start, Tiger Woods' second lands nicely on the first green. Could be an early birdie chance on the par four.

  20. Postpublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Finau -2 (2) Westwood -3 (2)

Steady stuff from Lee Westwood as he starts par-par to remain at three under. Tony Finau can only wish of such a boring start as he's put a bogey up and is back to two under after two.
