There's some heated debate amongst the BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra team.

Iain Carter is adamant that American Ryan Moore is one of the players who have spent the entirety of the 2010s in the top 100 - from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2019.

    All will be revealed shortly.

  2. Day back in joint leadpublished at 23:52 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Jason Day, who picked up a bogey at the ninth, almost eagles the 10th but his putt just trickles past the hole. A birdie.

Instead of the outright lead he's back at eight under - level again with clubhouse leader Li Haotong.

  4. 'You can't buy experience - I hope it stands me in good stead'published at 23:48 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Anthony Wall said earlier that Rory McIlroy is Britain's best hope of winning a major, but is it Tommy Fleetwood's time after a few close calls? He remains two off the lead with overnight joint-leader Jason Day having joined clubhouse leader Li Haotong.

“I've played with quite a few of the winners of the last few majors, and it's always good to see what they do,” Fleetwood said after his round. “You're obviously concentrating on your own game, but you see how the events pan out, and you see how the guys go and win those events. That, in your mind, can only do you good, I guess, because you've watched it and seen it.

“Any time you're in contention, it's just experience. You learn things about yourself and how those events unfold. Experience, you can't buy it, and I've been lucky enough to have some of that, and hopefully it stands me in good stead moving forward.”

  5. At the other end of the board...published at 23:48 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

...we have American Judd Gibb (no relation to the other Gibb brothers), aged 51, who earned an invite after finishing in the top-20 in the final 2019 national professional of the year standings.

Anyway, he followed up his 77 on Thursday with 84 on Friday - he's 21 over and definitely won't make the cut.

All about the major memories though.

World number one Justin Thomas (E) has about five feet left after a long one comes up short from the front of the green.

Woods (-1) has a couple of feet left - an easier par chance.

McIlroy (+1) actually does the best of the lot with a putt with his wedge. Beautiful to see.

  7. 'You can hit it far, but you've still got to put up a score'published at 23:34 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Bryson DeChambeau said after yesterday's round that he would continue "hitting it as straight and as far as I can". Today, that didn't work as well as the tour's biggest hitter would have hoped as he had to settle for level par (two under overall).

But the year's second biggest hitter says going long isn't the be-all-and-end-all. That's Cameron Champ, who hit a 64 today, the joint-lowest score so far along with Tommy Fleetwood.

“Everyone wants to talk about distance," said Champ. "It's our new modern era. The long ball is what attracts everyone. You know, which it should.

"Nowadays guys (like DeChambeau) are hitting it longer and longer and longer. But it's definitely not something that bothers me or anything like that (if someone hits it farther). To me, yes, you can hit it far, but you've still got to put up a score."

After Rory McIlroy finds the rough on the sixth:

"The pressure is building with every hole. It's a shame to see because he's pretty much our best hope of winning a major, and he just isn't doing it."

  9. Postpublished at 23:33 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Both Woods and Thomas are both short with their short-ish irons as they attack in the sixth green. Most likely pars for both.

McIlroy's effort runs off the green. So he can't find greens either at the moment!

On Tiger Woods having to settle for par on the fifth:

"That's another frustrating moment on the greens for Tiger Woods. He's missed two the the left now, two to the right. His scorecard could be so much better than one-under.

"He awaits his first birdie of the second day and mutters to himself as he walks away."

You look at Rory McIlroy's body language and it's 'not this again'. That's how he looks to me.

'I was almost expecting this; why have I still got this barren spell in majors'.

McIlroy this time smacks his drive off the sixth tee left - he's forgotten what it's like to find a fairway.

  13. Day gets a breakpublished at 23:25 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

England's Tom Lewis goes back to three under on the 12th having bogeyed the previous hole. He impressed at the St Jude last week where he tied for second.

Meanwhile, Jason Day has had a result on the ninth. His drive went wild with the ball hugging some fencing - but something was blocking his line of sight meaning he could move the ball a considerable margin. Strange rule tbf.

His iron to the green runs off the surface - a chip needed.

  15. Day stays at eight underpublished at 23:18 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Jason Day comes up short with his putt as he tries to birdie the par-three eighth.

That would have given him the outright lead on nine under - as it is he stays at eight under along with clubhouse leader Li Haotong.

Day's last PGA win came in 2018 - another is long overdue.

  17. McIlroy goes right again!published at 23:13 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Justin Thomas smacks a peach of a drive on the 428-yard par four fifth, but then Rory McIlroy goes right with his!

Tiger Woods plays it safe like Thomas. Woodsy talked about finding fairways after his first round - he's finding them it seems. He just needs to make his putts now.

  18. Postpublished at 23:07 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Rory McIlroy wastes a golden chance for a birdie on the par-five fourth - it's just a par. A wry smile.
