Another par for Li Haotong on the final hole. He finishes with a magnificent 65 and is the early clubhouse leader on eight under.

Could it be a victory on Sunday for a Chinese male golfer?

Remember Paul Casey's double bogey finish late on Thursday? Yeah?

Well, the former English world number three has shaken that off like a ants from a picnic blanket - the 43-year-old is currently tied for second on five under!!

Like Li, he's been as steady as Philippe Petit on a high-wire, picking up three birdies so far. He's got seven to play.

Southport's Tommy Fleetwood is also on five under after a round of five under so far with four to play. Six birdies and one bogey.

BBC's golf correspondent Iain Carter stated the case for a British win in his column...it seems promising so far.

    Projected cut is one over

  5. Faultless Li storms aheadpublished at 20:01 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

While we were becoming feverish about some of the big names in contention for the Wanamaker Trophy after the first round, 25-year-old Li Haotong has only gone and soared three shots into the lead on eight under.

Incredible! He doesn't recognise the word 'bogey' in what has been a faultless round so far with five birdies. He's heading for a 65.

Li's reputation on the circuit has been growing during the past two seasons. The Chinese player has made the cut at seven majors already and, as you recall, finished third at the 2017 Open.

This could be an incredible result for eastern Asian golf if he can hold on.

  6. We have a new leader...published at 19:43 British Summer Time 7 August 2020
