  1. Day under waypublished at 21:18 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Former champ Jason Day - the joint overnight leader on five under - is under way on the first. He leaves a putt for birdie well short, but that should be a par start.

  2. Fleetwood has leader Li in his sightspublished at 21:12 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Tommy Fleetwood finishes with a par on the ninth for a six-under-par round of 64 to move to six under and second in the championship - two behind Li Haotong.

Cameron Champ birdies the par-three eighth to go tied third on five under - he's set for a 64! One to play.

We could have a new champ on Sunday, but perhaps Cameron is not who we expected.

  5. Griffin 'feels great' for the weekendpublished at 21:02 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

American Lanto Griffin hit another two-under 68 today to leave himself well placed heading into the weekend. The 32-year-old, ranked 86 in the world, is currently in a tie for fifth during his second major appearance.

  6. Li - I said to my caddie 'no expectations'published at 20:56 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Li Haotong was eager to keep the pressure off as he headed to San Francisco.

"I said to my caddie 'no expectations'. I wanted to play without stress," he said. "That's the key - just to play golf and try to get the win.

"Last year everyone [in China] put high expectation on me. Right now it's died down a little bit."

If he's in the same position on Sunday, golf fans will be buzzing back home. No Chinese player - male or female - has won a major before.

  7. Mask/face covering watchpublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Tiger Woods strides towards the practice area - he's on two under and goes out at 21:58 BST.

The 15-time major winner seems to have opted for a silky dark blue scarf with what looks like stars on it. It's no Fowler fashion, but then that's Rickie!

  8. Champ-ing at the bitpublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

American Cameron Champ has had a great second round so far - he's on four under and is set for a 65 with two holes remaining.

  9. Fowler fighting to make cutpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Bryson DeChambeau plays a beauty of a chip from off the green, landing the ball about four feet from the flag on the seventh.

A shot dropped on the sixth saw him drop back to two under.

    He needs a big Saturday.

His playing partner Rickie Fowler is on one over and as it stands could miss the cut, projected at level.

Fleetwood is in a horrible grass hollow on the left of the green on the par-three eighth. Ah well.

  12. Fleetwood moves to six under!!!published at 20:36 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

He's still not smiling but the Southport Sinker sinks another birdie on the par for seventh to ease into outright second on six under. Two to play.

This has been a brilliant, yet understated, display from the Englishman.

  13. No fairway, no worriespublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Li Haotong barely hit a fairway today. No matter. The clubhouse leader has just spoken after his five-under 65.

"I didn't hit many fairways yesterday either but almost every time I went into the rough, the lie was OK actually, which was quite lucky. I did some good guess work too."

  14. Varner III finishes with a flourishpublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Nice birdie-par-birdie-birdie-birdie finish for American Harold Varner III to take him to two under for the championship.

If that doesn't perk him up for the weekend then nothing will - although if he gets in a tour of San Fran before the third round then that will buoy him no end.

  15. Postpublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Five-time major winner Phil Mickelson, 50, ditched his mirror aviators for a bit during his second round but they are back on.

The veteran leaves a putt short on the fifth and he's set to remain at level par - four to play. The cut is projected at level.

  16. Some turnaround for Toddpublished at 20:20 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Here's a fun fact for you...when Shane Lowry won the last major just over 12 months ago, Brendon Todd finished in a tie for 53rd at the Barbasol Championship, leaving him ranked 884th in the world.

The 35-year-old American is now back up to 48 and in contention at a major. Some turnaround.

  17. Consistent Fleetwood stays on five underpublished at 20:20 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Tommy Fleetwood makes par on the par-four sixth - he doesn't smile. He's barely smiled all day. I guess it's only his caddie he can smile at.

Anyway, he remains tied second on five under. Great second round from world number 13 - three to play.

World number seven Bryson "I broke my driver shaft" DeChambeau has had a mixed second round so far - four birdies sadly mixed with three bogeys - to sit on three under for the championship with four holes remaining.

Today he is sporting a tie-dye red/peach shirt and a bright white cap. Only certain men can pull off that look.
