Li Haotong was eager to keep the pressure off as he headed to San Francisco.
"I said to my caddie 'no expectations'. I wanted to play without stress," he said. "That's the key - just to play golf and try to get the win.
"Last year everyone [in China] put high expectation on me. Right now it's died down a little bit."

He's still not smiling but the Southport Sinker sinks another birdie on the par for seventh to ease into outright second on six under. Two to play.

Li Haotong barely hit a fairway today. No matter. The clubhouse leader has just spoken after his five-under 65.
"I didn't hit many fairways yesterday either but almost every time I went into the rough, the lie was OK actually, which was quite lucky. I did some good guess work too."

Nice birdie-par-birdie-birdie-birdie finish for American Harold Varner III to take him to two under for the championship.
If that doesn't perk him up for the weekend then nothing will - although if he gets in a tour of San Fran before the third round then that will buoy him no end.
Five-time major winner Phil Mickelson, 50, ditched his mirror aviators for a bit during his second round but they are back on.

Here's a fun fact for you...when Shane Lowry won the last major just over 12 months ago, Brendon Todd finished in a tie for 53rd at the Barbasol Championship, leaving him ranked 884th in the world.

World number seven Bryson "I broke my driver shaft" DeChambeau has had a mixed second round so far - four birdies sadly mixed with three bogeys - to sit on three under for the championship with four holes remaining.
Today he is sporting a tie-dye red/peach shirt and a bright white cap. Only certain men can pull off that look.
