Jason Day bogeys the ninth to drop down to five under - his demeanour hasn't been great so far.

Li Haotong strikes a stunning iron after a great tee-shot on the ninth - he's got a few feet for a birdie to go to nine under.

  2. Postpublished at 00:49 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

Cameron Champ, 25, without much celebration or a smile, birdies the 10th to take a share of the lead at eight under.

Champ won the Safeway Open way back last September but hasn't exactly been pulling up any trees since.

  3. Can Li Haotong go on to win it?published at 00:45 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

    Anthony Wall
Two-time European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

It's a long time, we're only halfway. But he can win, he's more than good enough. He's long enough and putts great - most of the time.

I think it's a bit early for him [in his career], but I still see him competing. He's not going to blow away, he won't shoot 80.

Job done for Li although the putt almost lipped out.

  5. Postpublished at 00:44 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

Li Haotong does well to get out of the trap on the left of the eighth green, but he'll have six feet for par.

  6. 'Li felt the best thing for him was to be out on the range'published at 00:41 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Now then, just to remind you, Li Haotong spent ages out on the driving range last night...after taking a surprise lead in a major.

There was some criticism of that, that he should be chilling out before a busy weekend instead, but apparently he did go back to his pad for a few hours before coming back to Harding Park.

"He's leading a major, he's living the dream in his eyes," said former European Tour pro Anthony Wall. "He's excited and yes, that might affect him slightly. At the moment I'd say it isn't, he's doing very well, he's holding his own. But every player's different, it's just how you see it.

"Yes, he's leading a major, but he's probably still not at his best. The stats proved that yesterday, so he's still going through his routines because he wants to get better. He wants to win this week and, he feels, the best thing for him is to be out there hitting golf balls."

Li Haotong says, "oh that is so bad" after his iron on the par three eight finds the hollow on the left of the green.

Xander Schauffele birdies the par three 11th - his second on the bounce - to go to six under.

After a birdie on the eighth, Justin Rose makes par on the next and stays on five under. A good recovery by the Olympic champ after the early wobble.

  8. Li takes outright lead againpublished at 00:36 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

Li Haotong has the outright lead again on eight under after a birdie on the seventh - finally a birdie chance converted!

Paul Casey has a great eagle chance on the ninth... nope four feet short... but a certain birdie... nope...he pulls it. Oh Paul!

  9. Postpublished at 00:33 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

Collin Morikawa birdies the 17th to go to seven under and the joint lead - three on the spin. A second place and victory at last month's Workday Charity Open means this world number 12 must now be considered a serious contender.

Bryson DeChambeau, after a disappointing second round, birdies the 16th to move to six under.

BBC Sport's golf correspondent Iain Carter says he's a club dropper rather than a club snapper of thrower.

"I haven't got the strength to break a club!" he says.

Former European Tour pro Anthony Wall admits he has done "the odd one over my knee" but insists he's matured a lot since then. We'll take your word for it Anthony.

Oh, hang on...he's now admitting he once broke three in a round. It's all coming out now!!

  11. 'There is a good score out there'published at 00:26 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

    Anthony Wall
Two-time European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

I think the winning score could easily be 12 or 11 (under). I don;t see them going too far forward. It's just getting too firm out there and we really haven't had any bad weather, so if the wind picks up tomorrow with firmer greens, the level par might get the job done for one of them.

The powers that be haven't watered the greens so they were pretty firm early on but we've seen Ian Poulter have a good score (66) so there is a good score out there for one or two of them. I still see Brooks Koepka shooting possibly 68, 67 this evening.

Li Haotong attacks the green on the seventh with a three wood. He chose well - the ball finds its lie just shy of the green.

American Collin Morikawa birdies the 16th to go to six under - a dark horse for Sunday.

Cripes! Daniel Berger (-6) almost chips in from the fringes of the bunker near the front of the seventh green. Just an inch.

  15. Postpublished at 00:21 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

Brooks Koepka misses the green with his iron from the tee on the par-three eighth. Wide left.

    Justin Rose finds the dancefloor.

  16. 'There's not many chances coming home'published at 00:19 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

    Anthony Wall
Two-time European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

The pressure will build around the turn. It'll be interesting to see how they deal with that because there's not that many chances coming home.

You put all your pins in your yardage book before you go out there and you will see the holes that really matter, where you'll get your chances, and if you don't take them it is difficult.

  18. 'The Brits need to be careful they don't lose touch'published at 00:11 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

    Anthony Wall
Two-time European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

From a British point of view, the ones we're following have dropped away on the easy part of the course, and that's a bit of a worry because it's going to get tough around the turn. Then they'll need to pick up a few because they might be a few behind, the way things are looking.

It's pretty firm out there, and if you get out of shape you're going to drop shots. It's not the end of the world for the Brits but they just need to be careful they don't lose touch of Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Jason Day.

  19. Postpublished at 00:11 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

Bryson DeChambeau birdies the 14th with a long putt - he goes to five under.

Meanwhile, fellow American Matthew Wolff goes to six under with his birdie at the 10th.

Cameron Champ birdies the eighth - two on the spin - he's now also a joint leader at seven under.

If this tournament isn't decided by a play-off I'd be surprised.

  20. Li drops to seven underpublished at 00:08 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

    Li Haotong... drops a shot!!!!

The 25-year-old Chinese player who has been leading this event on his own for what seems like years joins the small pack on seven under after his four-foot par putt has too much welly on it.

He was putting like Woods at his best in practice after his round on Friday!
