  1. Popov pops in a beautypublished at 19:09 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    1UP Ciganda & Popov v Kupcho & Salas (5)

Hello Sophia Popov - welcome to the Solheim Cup! She drains a wonderful put on the fifth, with the ball doing almost a 360 and having a good old look down into the hole before deciding to duck in.

Popov reacts with a textbook fist pump and Europe have gone from one down to one up in just a couple of holes. Ciganda and Popov record back-to-back birdies in a perfect example of dovetailing in fourballs.

    Nordqvist & Castren A/S Thompson & Harigae (3)

Lexi Thompson is warming to her task.

Only a short iron for the American who hit a booming drive and she lands it on the elevated putting surface perfectly.

Matilda Castren comes up short out of the first cut down the right of the fairway but that's not bad at all from Anna Nordqvist, who skips her ball on to the green from a very similar position.

  3. Thompson chips in for birdiepublished at 19:04 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Nordqvist & Castren A/S Thompson & Harigae (3)

    What. A. Shot.

Lexi Thompson take a bow. The American clips a superb wedge shot that skirts along the edge of the green and veers towards the hole before disappearing into the cup for a birdie two.

Saves her another awkward putt after what went down on two and more importantly gives the US an immediate opportunity to draw level.

Can Anna Nordqvist or Matilda Castren prevent that? Nope.

The Swede's birdie putt from distance drifts just right, while Castren comes up short.

  5. Ciganda sinks a birdiepublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Ciganda & Popov A/S Kupcho & Salas (4)

Carlota Ciganda waves some putting magic on the green as she sends her ball down the hill on the fourth from about 15 feet and sees it drop nicely into the cup to get this match back to all square.

We would be in for another tight contest here.

    2UP Hall & Maguire v Noh & Altomare (2)

Two holes gone, two holes won, and Europe are off and running with a decent head of steam on the final fourball of the day.

Georgia Hall and Leona Maguire have their game faces on and it is the Irishwoman who knocks in a birdie putt to double the lead.

    1Up Madsen & Sagstrom v N. Korda & Ewing (5)

Well then, that's just woken the American crowd up a little bit as Ally Ewing fires in a long-range birdie putt at the par-three fifth to grab a hole back on the Europeans.

The par threes were very productive for the USA in the foursomes and they've done the trick again here.

    1UP Nordqvist & Castren v Thompson & Harigae (2)

Great shot. Matilda Castren dollies her iron on to the par-three third.

The Finnish golfer and American Mina Harigae look to be in almost identical spots around 12-14 feet from the pin.

Lexi Thompson drifts slightly left, on the fringe. It's one of those horrible shots that you see the local club player get their putter out for, when it's a wedge all day long.

    1UP Nordqvist & Castren v Thompson & Harigae (2)

Anna Nordqvist with an eagle putt to win on the second.....

Not enough juice on that one from the Women's Open champion.

Lexi Thompson now up for the US from around six feet. Can she drop this in?

The crowd goes silent and then there's a huge groan as her balls slips past. The American looks aghast and Nordqvist tidies up to put Europe one up.

    1UP Hall & Maguire v Noh & Altomare (1)

Goodness me - Georgia Hall drains a monster putt from across the green, earning a grin and a thumbs up from Leona Maguire! That is not a bad start at all!

  12. Postpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    2UP Madsen & Sagstrom v N. Korda & Ewing (4)

Sagstrom scorches the hole on the fourth with a birdie putt that looked in for seven of the eight foot or so in length before just taking a dramatic turn off to the right to somehow miss the cup.

    Europe stay two up.

    Nordqvist & Castren A/S Thompson & Harigae (1)

Honours even on the first. Anna Nordqvist and Lexi Thompson are the two players you expect to shine given their lofty world rankings but there'll be plenty of twists and turns in this one.

    Ciganda & Popov v Kupcho & Salas 1UP (2)

Salas strikes for the USA on the second hole as the hosts edge ahead in this second match. She's an absolute wizard with those hybrid clubs she carries and she knocked another one close here to do the business.

    2UP Madsen & Sagstrom v N. Korda & Ewing (3)

Sagstrom just slips from the incredible level of her fast start, but Europe halve the hole and remain two in front in this top match of the fourballs.

    Hall & Maguire v Noh & Altomare

Off we go with the final match-up of Georgia Hall & Leona Maguire versus Yealimi Noh & Brittany Altomare .

Noh tees off the fresher of this awesome foursome and belts out a great tee shot to get her Solheim Cup under way.

    Nordqvist & Castren v Thompson & Harigae

Solid starts in the third fourball match.

Is that the best iron shot? Mina Harigae zips a lovely approach in to the back left of the green.

That's three balls all in close proximity to the pin.

  19. Stellar start from Sagstrompublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    2Up Madsen & Sagstrom v N. Korda & Ewing (2)

What a start from Sagstrom, who follows up the birdie at the first with a brilliant approach to the second to leave just a tap-in birdie to move Europe into a two-up lead here after two holes.

    That's electric from the Swede.

    Ciganda & Popov A/S Kupcho & Salas (1)

Carlota Ciganda showing that Spanish short game touch from off the back of the first green to secure her par, which is just as well as Sophia Popov had a bit of a nightmare going coast-to-coast and see the rough on both sides of the green.

Jennifer Kupcho has the chance to win the hole after a fantastic approach but she just pulls her birdie putt left and it remains all square.
