    DeChambeau & Scheffler A/S Rahm & Hatton (6)

Determined not to be upstaged by Bryson DeChambeau's ferocious power, Tyrrell Hatton plays a beauty into the par-three seventh!

The Englishman has 10 feet left for a birdie, and with neither American close to the flag, this could be a chance for the Europeans to regain their one-hole lead.

Hatton has played some excellent stuff so far.

It doesn't matter if Jon Rahm is having a bit of an ebb - Tyrrell Hatton has just planted a ball within five feet of the pin.

He's out there and enjoying it at the moment.

  3. McIlroy sparking some momentumpublished at 20:22 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Finau & English v McIlroy & Lowry 1UP (4)

McIlroy takes the Bryson line on the par-five fifth hole but doesn't have the muscles to make the carry all he way to the fairway - he's still got a shot though, and he makes the green with his approach.

From there it's a long putt, back into the wind but the pace is excellent and the line just as good and in it goes for eagle.

Is that almost a hint of the Shooter McGavin celebration from McIlroy? He's desperate to keep a lid on celebrations this week in order to keep the crowd quiet, but he just can't help himself here.

    A hint of blue momentum.....

Now that would have been interesting!

Bryson DeChambeau putts for birdie at the sixth and has his caddie Brian Zeigler tend the flag, but the flagstick refuses to budge as the ball trickles towards the hole. Luckily for the Americans, DeChambeau's putt is shy.

That would have been a penalty if the ball had struck the flag because the caddie was tending it. Anyway, the match referee comes to the rescue and helps take the flagstick out, so crisis averted.

Jon Rahm, who is looking a little out of sorts after a brilliant showing in the foursomes, misjudges his birdie effort.

Now it's Tyrrell Hatton, but again it slides past and that's a missed chance for Europe.

Never a dull moment with DeChambeau...

McIlroy has slung the ball back up the hill... and it's in for an eagle!

No expression - just puts his finger in the air and then points to the hole.

  7. Hovland sends Europe aheadpublished at 20:19 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Thomas & Cantlay v Fleetwood & Hovland 1UP (4)

It's just a par four for Viktor Hovland, but who cares when it's good enough to win a hole at the Ryder Cup - and also put your team 1UP for the match.

That's two holes in a row that the Norwegian has won now to turn this match around.

    2UP Johnson & Schauffele v Casey & Wiesberger (7)

Solid stuff from Bernd Wiesberger and Paul Casey on seven who both find the dancefloor from the tee and make their pars.

Dustin Johnson also makes a three mind. So it's as you were.

Lieutenant Phil Mickelson, looking all Men In Black with the shades and earpiece combo, breezed past relaying the info back to Captain Stricker.

Tee it high, let it fly.

Straight downwind, Bryson did just that - and made an eagle out of it, too.

Power and precision that mere mortals like us can only dream of!

    DeChambeau & Scheffler A/S Rahm & Hatton (5)

No fireworks from Bryson DeChambeau at the short par-four sixth. He pulls out what looks like a fairway wood, but balloons it up into the sky and it drifts left. Not a good strike.

You just don't know what this guy is going to do next. He looks disgusted with his latest effort. He'll probably go and knock his second in from the rough.

Scottie Scheffler is also down the left, Jon Rahm is safely in the fairway and Tyrrell Hatton - who is three under through the first five - is short and right.

  12. Casey & Wiesberger pull a hole backpublished at 20:05 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    2UP Johnson & Schauffele v Casey & Wiesberger (6)

That's nice from Bernd Wiesberger, who flips his chip to within five feet. Well judged given the greens are quickening up as the wind whips in off the lake.

The Austrian then holds his nerve to drop his putt in.

Xander Schauffele, who responded brilliantly with his pitch on for once sees his putter fail on him, lipping out from four feet.

  14. DeChambeau eagles five to tie the matchpublished at 20:01 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    DeChambeau & Scheffler A/S Rahm & Hatton (5)

Nobody can match Bryson's brilliance at the fifth, although Tyrrell Hatton drains a 33-footer for birdie to keep his good round going.

It's a winning eagle for DeChambeau, however, and we're all square through five.

Say what you want about Bryson: the man has a serious amount of talent.

That cheer you can hear is Shane Lowry who holes a par and yells out an enormous 'COME ON'.

    Big smile from McIlroy.

But the Americans respond with a solid putt of their own.

    3UP Johnson & Schauffele v Casey & Wiesberger (5)

Dustin Johnson crashes his drive towards the greenside gallery on the sixth as he tries to get on the 331-yard sixth in one. That was travelling.

Paul Casey and Bernd Wiesberger's balls both run left, with Casey's on the first cut and the Austrian's just skimming the putting surface before going over to give him a very tricky chip back down the slope.

    DeChambeau & Scheffler v Rahm & Hatton 1UP (4)

Now, can Bryson follow that monstrous drive up with a delicate pitch?

You bet he can. It's a delightful flick of the wrists, and he has around four feet left for an eagle.

    Spectacular stuff from 'The Scientist'.

  19. Hovland holes out!published at 19:52 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Thomas & Cantlay A/S Fleetwood & Hovland (3)

Viktor Hovland chips in from a tricky spot just off the third green to level this match.

It's a slippery little devil he faces with a steep slope just in front of him and no real room to land it after that before the flag, so he digs it out and lets the hill do the work.

It comes down a bit hot and is moving a bit but the flag gets in the way and in she goes for a fine birdie two for the Norwegian to level the match.

The par-five fifth is playing 581 yards today. Bryson DeChambeau has 72 yards to the hole.

No, that is not a typo.
