  1. Birdie - DeChambeau hauls it back to all-squarepublished at 23:28 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    DeChambeau & Scheffler A/S Fleetwood & Hovland (14)

Well now, gauntlet is thrown by Bryson DeChambeau as he holes a birdie putt from the back of the green,

What can Tommy Fleetwood do - ahhhhh no! It brushed the edge of the hole and he misses.

He engages Viktor Hovland in conversation, but to no avail - DeChambeau's birdie puts them back all square - and on we go!

    3UP Johnson & Morikawa v McIlroy & Poulter (13)

Ian Poulter takes a big stride to his right - it's a frustrated one as his putt wiggles by. He makes par though, as does DJ and the Americans remain three holes to the good with five to play.

The whooping celebrations from the home fans around the 15th green after Jordan Spieth’s approach were quickly cut short.

Jon Rahm pooped the party somewhat by going a few centimetres inside his ball.

    A short-stick shootout!

    Finau & English v Lowry & Hatton 1UP (16)

Tony Finau has his eye in right now, which is handy for the Americans as Harris English's tee shot at the par-three 17th disappears off the side of a cliff.

Tyrrell Hatton goes jab for jab with Finau and Shane Lowry floats one of those low-rising approaches, but it kicks on off the green.

    DeChambeau & Scheffler v Fleetwood & Hovland 1UP (13)

Bryson De Chambeau does very well to reach the green on the par four 14th hole with a cutting, slashing action that would not have been out of place on a fencing piste.

Tommy Fleetwood is also on the green as some wicked spin on the ball sets him about 10 feet away from the cup.

Jordan Spieth storms off through the narrow guided walkway to the 16th, muttering under his breath.

Little expression from Jon Rahm as Sergio Garcia gives him a celebratory and reassuring tap on the back.

Non-playing American Justin Thomas is here supporting and he looks as glum as if Spieth has found a new BFF.

  7. Rahm puts Europe back aheadpublished at 23:23 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Koepka & Spieth v Rahm & Garcia 1UP (15)

Right, here we go, Jon Rahm has returned to top form just at the right time, fizzing in his approach to 15 to just six feet.

What made it even better was that Spieth has just fired his to nine feet so it was some response under pressure - and the pressure tells when Spieth misses his chance but Rahm nails his to stick Europe's noses back in front.

Spieth has missed a couple of putts today that he normally wouldn't so he'll be keen to make amends down the stretch. This match has got going down the 18th written all over it.

  8. Finau keeps it closepublished at 23:21 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Finau & English v Lowry & Hatton 1UP (16)

Tony Finau rattles in his putt for a birdie four to match that of Shane Lowry's and stay within touching distance of the Europeans heading into the business end of this one...

    That's amazing from Jon Rahm.

Every time the Americans have thrown down the gauntlet - he has responded.

It increases the pressure on the putt that Jordan Spieth has to do.

    Finau & English v Lowry & Hatton 1UP (15)

Tony Finau has gone farming. He tries to hack out of the rough and finds some more down the left.

Harris English and Tyrrell Hatton go chasing the dancefloor, with the Englishman catching the right of the smooth stuff and anchoring his effort down six or seven feet from the flag.

Finau, after taking the scenic route, also whips a superb approach in himself.

What’s that old line about an Irish bar being everywhere you go in the world? Not found one yet in Sheboygan.

But, if there is one here, the throngs of Irish fans at Whistling Straits will have nipped in.

Apart from the Americans (obvs) there are more wearing the national colours of Ireland than anywhere else. (Again unsurprising seeing as there is such a strong Irish heritage in the States.)

A giant green, white and orange tricolor has been unfurled - about the size of four picnic blankets - on the side of the 15th green.

    3UP Johnson & Morikawa v McIlroy & Poulter (12)

Ian Poulter has his game face on. When he holed that outrageous birdie earlier on it looked like it might be another classic afternoon for the Postman... The Englishman and Rory McIlroy haven't managed to build any momentum today. Poults pops in for par, but so does Collin Morikawa - of course - to maintain the United States' lead.

    DeChambeau & Scheffler v Fleetwood & Hovland 1UP (13)

At the business end of this par four 13th hole, Tommy Fleetwood almost holed a long-distance birdie putt to win this hole - but can't quite extend their lead and gain just a little bit of breathing room.

Scottie Schffler is oh so close ... but not close enough as his birdie putt passes by.

Hole halved - and on we go.

More captains and vice-captains around the 12th and 16th tees than a meeting of high-ranking army generals.

Padraig Harrington whispers some words of encouragement to Shane Lowry, while American counterpart Steve Stricker keeps anxiously looking behind him to see what Morikawa and Johnson are up to.

This part of Whistling Straits - right on the north side - is a tight quadrant where any slips or moments of inspiration today could prove pivotal.

Tension etched over the faces of both Harrington and Stricker.

    Koepka & Spieth A/S Rahm & Garcia (14)

Heart in mouth stuff here as both Garcia and Koepka come up just short with long, winding birdie putts that would have claimed the hole.

Rahm's a little loose on this hole, finding the bunker, chunking it out and then being a bit heavy handed with his chip that comes up well short.

You do wonder if Europe's main man is just feeling the pace a bit now down the stretch after a couple of hard days in the field?

    Finau & English v Lowry & Hatton 1UP (15)

All four leave their drives short of the ridge running down the middle of the 15th, each then scatter the green and Tyrrell Hatton has to clip on. Tony Finau runs a putt just wide and Harris English will have a dig from distance, he leaves it a few feet short and right.

Finau and Lowry both make pars and Europe hold on to their lead with three to play.
