  1. Morikawa doubles his leadpublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    2UP Morikawa v Hovland (7)

That hole kind of sums up the week for Hovland, who hit a decent tee shot, hit a decent putt, which just failed to drop - but he was punished by Morikawa who drained his birdie effort to win the hole.

Close, but not close enough for Viktor I'm afraid.

Somebody once impolitely termed them 'WAGS', but the American wives and girlfriends seem to be stars in their own right here at Whistling Straits.

"We love you Alayna," shrieked a group of girls on the first tee.

That excited scream was towards Alayna Finau, who has been popular with the female fans all week.

Paulina Gretsky - a model who is the fiancee of Dustin Johnson and daughter of Wayne Gretsky - and actress Jena Sims - who is engaged to Brooks Koepka - are also well-liked. Sims has even been posing for selfies with fans.

The Ryder Cup has been keen to build a fun, family atmosphere, with partners and children all encouraged to follow their loved ones inside the ropes.

    3UP Cantlay v Lowry (9)

Has Shane Lowry pulled a hole back?

He certainly thinks so, getting ready to whoop for joy as his 20-foot putt heads towards the centre of the cup on the ninth.

How did that not drop. His ball horseshoes round the hole and somehow stays up. Lowry cannot believe it and gives it the full on facials of man just punched in the stomach.

  4. Westy back in frontpublished at 19:24 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    English v Westwood 1UP (3)

Harris Engish hits back immediately at the second, wiping out Lee Westwood's early lead.

But this one is bouncing around on every hole, and the American slips behind again with a bogey at the par-three third after Westy made it down with three. He's in front once more.

  6. McIlroy regains two-hole leadpublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    Schauffele v McIlroy 2UP (10)

Textbook iron play from Rory McIlroy on the 10th, who restores his two-hole advantage.

The Irishman is again way more accurate off the tee and follows up with a superb wedge to four feet. 'Have a bit of that' you can almost hear him saying.

Uncharacteristically Xander Schauffele watches his six-feet putt to halve the hole, roll over the right edge allowing Rory to tidy up.

  7. Wiesberger puts blue back on the boardpublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    Koepka v Wiesberger 1UP (4)

Wiesberger regains some ground against the more experienced Brooks Koepka.

A good example of keeping his head after losing ground and being pegged back to all-square, he regains a slim advantage for Europe.

  8. Morikawa takes the leadpublished at 19:19 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    1UP Morikawa v Hovland (6)

The turnaround is complete in this match as Morikawa takes the lead on the sixth thanks to a chip from the edge that was in truth a bit clumsy as it was travelling at some speed, but it smacked into the flag and settled just by the hole.

Hovland than failed to make his 10 foot putt for the half and he finds himself one down despite that brilliant start.

  9. 'Body language is not the same in singles'published at 19:17 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

Very often when you've had partnerships that have worked well, and then you come to singles - the body language is not the same.

We've seen this with Jon Rahm and now with Xander Schauffele

  10. Crowd-pleasing Brysonpublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    2UP DeChambeau v Garcia (7)

Sergio Garcia gets his birdie putt all wrong at the par-three seventh, but there's no such leakiness from Bryson DeChambeau. He wriggles in a well-weighted birdie from 10 feet.

The crowd love it, and I think Bryson might just be growing on them... he's two up.

    3UP Scheffler v Rahm (8)

Scottie Scheffler is playing some sensational golf. He chips on to the eighth green from an awkward spot and leaves his ball a rotation or two from the cup.

Jon Rahm now needs this eight-footer to halve the hole. "Come on, Rahmbo" is the lone cry.

He pops it in confidently, but stays three back.

    Schauffele v McIlroy 1UP (9)

Rory McIlroy reaches the turn ahead.

He has to work for that after shooting through the green from the left rough but an up and down does the job.

As my colleague Pete Scrivener pointed out earlier, Patrick Cantlay has his surname printed in the white band on the back of his American-coloured top.

Interestingly, none of the other home players - as far as I can see - have.

Sure that will be construed as arrogance from the European fans who, shall we say, have not taken a strong liking to the world number four.

  15. 'We lost some blue with Hovland'published at 19:08 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

We lost some blue from the board because Viktor Hovland made a mess of the par-five fourth.

He reverse knocked the ball a couple of feet and was on to the green in five, with a wry smile on his face.

  16. 'What a reaction from Lowry'published at 19:08 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    John Murray
    BBC 5 Live commentator

My goodness what a reaction from Lowry - you'd think he'd won the hole, or he'd won the Ryder Cup!

I think it's the jeering from the crowd when a player has a chance to halve the hole.

Not the sort of man you would want to make angry!

  17. Fitz chasing a pointpublished at 19:07 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    Berger v Fitzpatrick

As things stand it's unlikely that Matt Fitzpatrick's duel with Daniel Berger will be decisive.

But the Englishman will be looking to restore some pride and avoid going two Ryder Cups without collecting any points. Not even half a point in fact.

  18. Postpublished at 19:07 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    3UP Cantlay v Lowry (8)

Patrick Cantlay has played some fine stuff so far but his attempt to go for the pin on the eighth is wild.

It flies well right with the water in view but has he got lucky and stuck on on the banking. Yep. When it's going your way and all that.

He gets up and won in two and ends up leaving Shane Lowry with a six footer to halve the hole.

The Irishman makes it and then turns and stares towards the gallery and presumably someone who has been giving him a bit of aggro.

  19. Problems for Hovlandpublished at 19:06 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    Morikawa A/S Hovland (5)

Viktor Hovland in all kinds of trouble on the fifth - the par five which has caused the Europeans so many problems this week.

He's under a bush in a bunker - you don't see that too often! He uses his fourth shot just to tap it out a foot or so before playing his escape onto the green.

Morikawa takes advantage to tie his match up.

  20. Thomas moves clearpublished at 19:06 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    2UP Thomas v Hatton (2)

Justin Thomas has flown out of the gates like a baseball cap-sporting whippet, trickling in another birdie putt at the second to go two up on Tyrrell Hatton. The American pokes out his chest, dons a faux frown and soaks in the applause.
