  1. Match three under waypublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    Scheffler v Rahm (17:26 BST)

World number one, US Open champ, Jon Rahm, RahmDog, Rahmbo... whatever you want to call him, the Scintillating Spaniard will need to bring home a point today if Europe are to stand any chance of mounting the most remarkable of comebacks.

He's up against Scottie Scheffler in match three, and now on the first tee...

Rahm steps up first and unleashes a drive down the middle of the fairway. Nice. His American opponent goes next, once the cheers have died down, and outstrips Rahm by 20 yards or so.

They are off to an encouraging start in terms of the errors the United States have made. We haven't seen many over the two days.

We've seen a short missed putt from Schauffele and a missed chip from Cantalay, through the back of the green.

    Cantlay v Lowry

Patrick Cantlay and Shane Lowry both under way and looking at a wedge from the middle of the fairway some 70 yards from the pin.

Easy dolly on. Oh hello. Cantlay's overcooked that and gone through the back into the sand.

A few nerves on show early doors from the hosts.

Lowry, perhaps aware of that and the wind, doesn't quite get enough on his and lands his ball 18 feet from the pin.

That's a sterling drive from Rory McIlroy on the second. Has that early putt helped settle any nerves? He's looking good. So far.

Now then, we want your thoughts on who should win the inaugural Niklaus-Jacklin Award - named after the famous 1969 moment in by Jack Nicklaus, when he conceded a two-foot putt to Tony Jacklin for a halved match, it commemorates sportsmanship and teamwork.

Although, it might be better to whittle down who won't get it... arguing with officials, chugging beers on the first tee, laying your putter down after not getting a gimme. Have there been any worthy challengers?! Let us know using #bbcgolf

How are them nerves? Bit jumpy on the first tee after Schauffele misses his putt up ahead.

Lots of loud 'ooohs' and 'uh-ohs' from the Americans who are watching on the big screen.

A pocket of Europeans dance around in the bottom right-hand corner of the grandstand like 'Freed from Desire' has just come on the jukebox.

Ohhhh Xander Schauffele has missed it on the right. Well. Well. Well.

Rory McIlroy is one up after the first.

  8. McIlroy takes early leadpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 26 September 2021

    Schauffele v McIlroy 1UP (1)

A long putt from Xander Schauffele snakes its way down the green.

That's some effort from the American to get to around two feet. Rory McIlroy has his wedge out as he's in the longer cut of grass on the right.

That's probably not his best, flipping down to six feet. He'll have a tester, which he knocks in under plenty of pressure.

Schauffele now up. Oh my. He's missed. Europe are ahead with a rare opening hole victory.

How good was Shane Lowry in Saturday's fourballs.

I hope his jig of joy and celebrations after draining an 11-foot par putt at the 18th to secure the victory have been replayed in the European dressing room.

"I've always wanted to play in a Ryder Cup. We are a few points behind, but I mean, I'm not stopping believing. I don't care," said Lowry, the 2019 Open champion.

"I think I'm having the week of my life here, honestly, I really am.

"It's just been incredible. We're still not out of it. It's a long day, 12 matches. If any 12 of us were going out against any of them in the match play, we would fancy our chances. We just have to believe. It's all about believing."

Patrick Cantlay, who is the US PGA Tour player of the year having won the Tour Championship, FedEx Cup title, will be a tough cookie mind.

"Show us your calves, show us your calves," chant the Americans at Phil Mickelson.

Freddie Couples obliges by bending down and rolling up Mickelson's trousers.

The love for these two American vice-captains is unconditional. Every hole, all week, fans shout their support and ask for waves/selfies.

If Europe are going to pull this off and we go back to Medinah - Europe won the first five matches.

That is the kind of thing that has got to happen this afternoon if this is going to come off.

Belting drive that from Rory McIlroy.

The Northern Irish golfer booms his tee shot down towards the first green with his ball finally stopping on the right edge.

Not to be outdone Xander Schauffele, follows suit but stays slightly more central.

    Brilliant start.

    Ryder Cup

Is it Sunday morning? Feels like a Saturday night downtown on the first tee. All the American party classic have been spun - OutKast, The Killers, Fleetwood Mac.

Not as dark as the past two mornings, of course, because it is not as early.

That means it is rammed in the grandstand with more fans lined up the first fairway than there has been on the previous two days.

Celebratory mood here as the Americans go through their repertoire of chants - 'U-S-A, U-S-A', etc - and whooping any sign of the home team.

Barely anybody thinks there will be anything other than a home win in the next four hours or so.

It feels like a carnival over on the first tee as European captain Padraig Harrington emerges.

The US fans think this is in the bag. Can Europe be party poopers?

Feels a bit like mind games from Padraig Harrington doesn't it putting Rory McIlroy out first.

But if he finds something special he could lay down a marker for the rest of the European players.

Rory McIlroy has looked out of sorts this weekend but can he ignite a European comeback?

The Irishman will definitely have a point to prove after losing all three of his matches so far and has pledged to come out fighting against the unbeaten Xander Schauffele.

"It's disappointing not to contribute a point for the team yet," he said.

"Hopefully (I can) just go out tomorrow and try my best to get a point and hopefully we can rally and at last give them something to maybe sweat about in the middle of the afternoon."

If McIlroy were to lose today that rather unwelcome streak will extend to six Ryder Cup sessions, with his last Ryder Cup victory coming on the Saturday morning fourballs with Sergio Garcia in Paris in 2018.

If you were blindfolded and transported to Whistling Straits, you'd know within about 10 seconds of uncovering your eyes that you'd landed in the United States.

Patriotism here is on a different level.

You can see an American flag on every item of clothing you can possibly think of and I'd guess there is about 70% of the fans wearing some form of the Stars and Stripes.

Caps. Hoodies. Bobble hats. Trousers with stars on one leg and stripes on the other.

Bandanas. Socks. Dungarees. Onesies with huge pockets to stick a beer or three in.

Boiler suits. Bucket hats. Headbands with stars bobbling about on springs.

One bloke was wearing the Stars and Stripes as a cape over his suit. Oh, by the way, he was dressed as Abraham Lincoln with accompanying chin-curtain beard.

A George Washington or two has been here, as have multiple Uncle Sams.

If you haven't had chance to take a look at all Sunday's singles pairings, here you go.

    Some intriguing matches on there.

The way things have gone so far mind, I bet European captain Padraig Harrington wishes he could clone Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia and Shane Lowry for some of those.
