  1. Solid but needs spectacularpublished at 18:16 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Fitzpatrick -9 (5)

Matthew Fitzpatrick is on the fifth green. He's picked up one shot today, on the par-five second and had chances at the third and fourth holes to improve his score further.

He again comes close but his ball stays on the green. Solid start but he needs a spectacular round to challenge.

    Westwood -14, DeChambeau -11 (1)

Lee Westwood, having found the water with his second, skips his fourth on to the edge of the green at the par-five second and will need a monster putt to save par from there. He hasn't dropped a shot since Thursday...

  3. Postpublished at 18:11 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Thomas -10, Ghim -10 (2)

Justin Thomas sighs as another birdie slips by at two, that's a second successive par for the world number three. It doesn't drop for Doug Ghim either, he has his hands on his knees. It's as you were.

  4. Birdie for Rahmpublished at 18:10 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Casey -10, Rahm -10 (3)

Over at the third hole, Jon Rahm gets to double digits under par with a solid 20-footer.

Paul Casey is four feet short with his effort from about twice that distance. He rolls in for par.

You get the feeling both of them need mistakes from Lee Westwood though...

  5. Westy in the waterpublished at 18:10 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Westwood -14, DeChambeau -11 (1)

Great start from Lee Westwood, but he's under a canopy of trees at two after leaking a drive right. He can see a route through the branches, but can't clear the water! Westy's in the splash. Nightmare.

  6. Postpublished at 18:07 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Westwood -14, DeChambeau -11 (1)

This was the beaut of an approach from Westwood to set up an opening birdie.

  7. Westwood takes three-stroke leadpublished at 18:05 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Westwood -14, DeChambeau -11 (1)

Bryson DeChambeau's trickles a birdie putt to within a few inches and makes par.

Lee Westwood has had plenty of time to size his effort up from four or five feet. He left a few out there on the front nine yesterday, but this one is in as soon as it leaves the flat stick! Lovely stuff from the former world number one.

Westy moves into a three-shot lead.

  9. Casey moving uppublished at 18:00 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Casey -10, Rahm -9 (2)

Paul Casey from 250+ yards on the par-five second. A huge thwack with an iron, straight at the green. A couple of bounces and the ball comes to rest about 30 feet from the hole.

Big eagle chance, straight up the hill. He's not hit that though. Still, an 18-inch tap-in birdie gets him moving.

Jon Rahm is in the rough off the tee, hacking down the fairway to leave himself 80 yards. Flick on from there and he's got an 20-footer for birdie. Another two-putt par.

  10. Birdie chance for Westypublished at 17:59 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Westwood -13, DeChambeau -11 (17:50 GMT)

Lee Westwood hit 85% of greens in regulation during the opening three rounds - the best ratio out there, and he's just nailed another on his opening hole on Sunday.

He'll be licking his lips at this birdie chance, four feet or so to extend his lead...

Bryson DeChambeau is also on the smooth stuff but facing a longer putt.

Scores to be had out there today, especially when you're rolling in putts like this...

    Thomas -10, Ghim -10 (1)

Justin Thomas' birdie effort trickles just wide and he settles for an opening par, as does Doug Ghim after earlier finding the rough - two different ways to make par, but they look the same on the scorecard.

  13. Leaders under waypublished at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Westwood -13, DeChambeau -11 (17:50 GMT)

And here come the final pair.

    "On the tee, from England..."

It's the leader, Lee Westwood. Lashes one down the left of the fairway and it comes to a rest just shy of the first cut.

Bryson DeChambeau nails the middle of the fairway with his effort.

  15. Garcia at the doublepublished at 17:48 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Garcia -10 (3)

Sergio Garcia looks to be in the mood today. His golf is as bright as his stripy white and pink top so far today.

A decent hit into the heart of the par-three third green leaves him a 20-footer for birdie. No problem. The Spaniard right in the mix.

  16. Postpublished at 17:48 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Thomas -10, Ghim -10 (17:40 GMT)

Doug Ghim is in the pines after his opening tee shot but hacks out just short of the green. Justin Thomas found the fairway and clips on to the dance floor to give himself an early birdie chance...

  17. Bryson lurking with intentpublished at 17:47 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Westwood -13, DeChambeau -11 (17:50 GMT)

Bryson DeChambeau's relentless pursuit of perfection has taken him from tweaking the length of his clubs to piling on muscle in a bid to hit the ball further than his rivals.

On Friday, he spent 90 minutes tinkering with his swing again after finishing his round and was rewarded with a five-under 67 on Saturday.

"I am absolutely happy, this was the best ball-striking day I have had all week," said DeChambeau. "I came out here with a fresh idea and it worked, it was awesome."

The world number six has three wins in the past nine months, including his first major title at the US Open, and is looking for back-to-back victories after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational seven days ago.

  18. Ones to watchpublished at 17:44 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Casey -9, Rahm -9 (1)

This looks like it's going to be an interesting pairing.

We all know Paul Casey is prone to a bad few holes that can be ruinous for his tournament chances. I wonder if that came on the back nine yesterday and he rode it out well, signing off with a birdie on 18.

Decent drive, wedge to the green is not so great though. From just over 100 yards he'd have hoped to be closer than 25 feet short. Two-putt par to open.

Casey is playing with Jon Rahm, already a five-time winner on the PGA Tour. The Spaniard also hung in well on the back nine yesterday.

Will he take advantage today? His opening drive finds the rough, awkward stance, ball well below his feet but he manages to squirt a wedge pin-high, 30 feet right. Two-putt par to open.

  19. Can Westy end PGA drought?published at 17:44 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Westwood -13, DeChambeau -11 (17:50 GMT)

    WestwoodImage source, Getty Images

Lee Westwood has won 44 professional tournaments, claimed victories across four different decades and won the European Tour's order of merit title for the third time in December to become the oldest Race to Dubai champion.

But the 47-year-old, who turned professional the year Bryson DeChambeau was born, has not won on the PGA Tour since June 2010 at the St. Jude Classic.

If he can claim victory at TPC Sawgrass today, he will become the second oldest winner of the Players Championship after Fred Funk in 2005.

  20. Birdie for Sergiopublished at 17:41 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Garcia -9 (2)

Sergio Garcia, leader after round one, is back among the birdies.

The Spaniard was fighting hard on Saturday to stay in touch with the leaders, eventually shooting a one-under 71.

He lays up with his second on the par-five second. Turns out to be a smart play, given he follows that with a wedge and a putt for a birdie.
