Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist will be tough to beat today going on her round of 65, the best score of the week, yesterday.

She went bogey-free as she looks for a third major title – 12 years on from her first – and she certainly seems at home at Carnoustie.

“I love Carnoustie, it's a great venue, good golf course,” she said. “I've only played it a few times but every time I go it's just such a treat.”

Nanna Koerstz Madsen plays alongside her in the finalgrouplooking to become the first Dane to win a major.

A win would be the biggest of the 26-year-old's career by a mile.

  3. Birdie start for Duncanpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Duncan -8, Sagstrom -7 (1)

Well, well, well - Louise Duncan looked absolutely petrified on the first tee after getting a rousing reception from the home crowd.

I'm surprised she managed to get her ball on the tee, but from there on in there was no sign of nerves at all, smoking her drive then delivering a dart with an iron to leave a six foot birdie putt.

Which she duly rolls in to get off to the perfect start! Nerves of steel....

  4. Bogey - dropped shot for Kimpublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Kim -6, Hall -6 (4)

Oh dear - and it all started so well for Kim with that birdie on the first. She drops a shot at the fourth.

Georgia Hall has stayed strong and steady on level par so far. Strong putts but those birdies are just not flying overhead right now for the former champion.

    Nuutinen -7 (14:35)

    Sanna NuutinenImage source, Getty Images

Sanna Nuutinen showed that she has the skills to master the worst that Carnoustie can throw at a player.

Three bogeys on her first round, one on her second and none on Moving Day, with four birdies to boot saw her scoot up the leaderboard rather nicely.

She missed the cut last year, so whatever happens out there today, Nuutinen is up for her best major showing.

  7. Lee on the chargepublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Lee -8 (7)

    Minjee LeeImage source, Getty Images

After watching her at the Evian, your money would be on Minjee Lee right now as she pours in a second birdie in a row, her fourth in seven holes and one that moves her into joint second spot.

    We've seen this movie before....

  8. Twice a major runner-up, is this Salas' moment?published at 14:25 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Salas -8 (14:35)

    Lizette SalasImage source, Getty Images

While all eyes were on the big names, Lizette Salas crept up the leaderboard very effectively on day three overcoming two early bogeys to card four birdies as well, and sees her sitting just one behind the leaders.

She is the 2019 Women's Open runner up and also earlier this year at the Women's PGA Championship - one to keep an eye on today for sure.

  9. Henderson and Korda also safely off the markpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Henderson -6, Korda -6 (1)

No birdies were flying by at the start of Brooke Henderson and Nelly Korda's round, but so far the big names are negotiating the start an awful lot better than yesterday!

    Nice comfortable level par start.

  10. Can amateur Duncan spring a shock?published at 14:20 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Duncan -7 (14:25)

    Louise DuncanImage source, Getty Images

21-year-old Scottish amateur Louise Duncan could provide the home crowd with a memorable day if she can complete a fairytale success at Carnoustie.

A commanding winner of the World Amateur Championship in June, Duncan will become just the third amateur to win a women's major title if she can bring it home this afternoon.

It'll be a huge upset of course, but she's already proven she can handle anything this week, and you never know in golf....

  11. Birdies to be had out therepublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Kyriacou -7 (8)

They're starting to stack up on the leaderboard just behind the leading pair with birdies to be had on the front nine today.

Not so much wind as expected and Australian Steph Kyricou has taken advantage with four in eight holes firing her up the standings.

  12. Evian champion in touchpublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Lee -7 (6)

Minjee Lee won the last major - the Evian Championship - after starting the final day seven strokes off the lead.

She was only five back today and is now just two off the lead after three birdies in her first six holes sees the Australian improve to seven under and offer up a real threat to the leaders.

  13. The state of play - latest leaderboardpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Women's Open final day

    -9 A Nordqvist (14:45), N Koerstz Madsen (14:45)

    -8 L Salas (14:35)

    -7 S Kyriacou (7), W Meechai (6), M Lee (4), SY Kim (2), M Jutanugarn (1), S Nuutinen (14:35), L Duncan (14:25), M Sagstrom (14:25), L Thompson (14:15)

    Selected others:

    -6 G Hall (2), Y Noh (1), N Korda (14:05), B Henderson (14:05)

    -4 L Ko (14)

    -3 L Maguire (4)

  14. Hall looking a lot happier todaypublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Hall -6, Kim -7 (2)

It feels like more confident start from Georgia Hall today. On yesterday's round she looked pensive from the off - this is nice and steady as she is level par after two holes.

Kim Sei-young got off to the best start with an opening par - she too looked a lot more stressed on the back nine yesterday.

Amazing the difference a bit of sun makes!

  15. Upcoming tee-timespublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

Down to our final four... here are the all-important tee-times for the leading groups...

  16. Henderson also in the huntpublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Henderson -6 (14:05)

Brooke Henderson claimed her first major in 2018, becoming the youngest winner of the Women's PGA Championship.

She holed six birdies in the face of Carnoustie's weather but three bogeys put her one over her best round this week.

  17. Will the weather help Korda?published at 14:05 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Korda -6 (14:05)

    Nelly KordaImage source, Getty Images

World number one Nelly Korda looked pretty frustrated with herself, the weather, her putter - you name it!

Better conditions today, and still not out of it by any means, will the Olympic champion inspire her own gold-rush on the final round?

  18. Kim starts strongly on day fourpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Kim -7 (1)

    Kim Sei-youngImage source, Getty Images

The 2020 Women's PGA champion, Kim Sei-young was in impressive form on the first day, but she really was not enjoying the Carnoustie elements on day three.

Four birdies and four bogeys, and after a T4 finish last year, she will hope to march a little further up the leaderboard from her T8 starting point.

She starts well with an opening birdie.

  19. Better start for Hall todaypublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

    Hall -6 (1)

    Georgia HallImage source, Getty Images

It felt like a story of increasing bogeys, less birdies and a lot of pars for Georgia Hall yesterday.

Her first two rounds seemed a long time ago after an edgy start late on a 'dreich' day in Carnoustie.

She is still in with a shout, but no edgy starts required today please, Georgia.

  20. How it started (after the cut) ... and how it's going!published at 14:02 British Summer Time 22 August 2021

Rain, rain go away, we cried ... and it has!

Dry with maybe just the hint of blue in the sky. Here's hoping it stays that way!
