Welcome to our coverage of the final round of the Players Championship.

Time to see who will be crowned champion. It's not like we've had to wait or anything, is it?

Four-and-a-half days into the tournament we have just a couple of dozen or so contenders but England's Paul Casey is one of them.

The 44-year-old will start the final round one shot off the lead after completing a solid three-under-par 69 on Monday in the third round.

We shall be back around 16:30 GMT prior to the leading groups going out.

Until then feel free to read Peter Scrivener's report on the third round and Paul Casey's challenge to win the Players Championship.

    Burns -8 Varner III -6, Hoge -7 (17)

Harold Varner III has a rollercoaster put on the 18th for birdie up a couple of plateaued areas from 70 feet.

He judges it really well to tickle it up to less than a foot to safely make par.

Sam Burns and Tom Hoge follow suit. Three solid pars.

  6. Postpublished at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Burns -8 (17)

Sam Burns has won a couple of events on the PGA Tour and he strolls down to his ball on the 18th facing around 155 yards into the pin.

So obviously it's a pitching wedge....

His hand just comes off his club as he follows through taking a bit of juice off that and while he lands it on the dance floor, he is well short of the hole.

  7. Fleetwood falterspublished at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Fleetwood -5 (F)

Tommy Fleetwood doesn't look entirely happy. He gets down over a 65-yard chip and it's all a bit flat as he under hits it to give himself 18 feet to the hole.

He starts his putt well left and it just doesn't come back. A disappointing bogey to conclude.

  8. Postpublished at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Zalatoris -6 (F)

Just up ahead Will Zalatoris, who was second at the Masters and the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2021 drops a 12-foot putt into the heart of the hole to move within three shots of the lead.

  9. Postpublished at 14:35 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Fleetwood -6 (17)

Meanwhile, Tommy Fleetwood is in a bit of bother after drifting well right off the tee on the 18th.

What can the Englishman do with his, his ball is sat on a flattened bit of mud, with a huge bank of tree right in front of him.

Out comes a hybrid club, nope back to an four or five, he is looking to play this with a bit of fade from left to right and executes his shot perfectly, albeit laying up shy of the green. An up and down would be very handy here.

  10. Postpublished at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Burns -8 (16)

Very solid gold from Sam Burns to card a very makeable birdie on the 16th after getting on the putting surface in two.

He trots over to the 17th a nearly undoes that good work mind, leaving his ball right on the fringe.

  11. Gator in water?published at 14:25 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Peter Scrivener

There looks to be an alligator or two lurking in the lake to the left of the 18th fairway.

They are too far away to get a decent photo but a marshal tells me: “If there’s water in Florida there’s a good chance there’s a gator in it.

"With all the cold weather we’ve had they will have been resting on the bottom but now it’s warming up they’ll surface.”

  12. Ghim closes inpublished at 14:25 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Ghim -8 (F)

Doug Ghim is quietly going about his business but his putt for birdie on the 18th is enough to make anyone sit up and pay attention, rolling in from over 31 feet.

The 25-year-old finished in a tie for 29th on his debut here last year but looks more than capable of a big improvement on that.

  13. Postpublished at 14:20 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Fleetwood -6 (17)

Tommy Fleetwood has been Mr. Dependable during this third round and arcs his tee shot into the 17th, landing it slap, bang in the middle of the green.

The Englishman, looks at his ball half expecting it to spin back but it doesn't budge an inch.

Still he's in decent shape and two putts for par.

  14. Postpublished at 14:13 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Casey -8 (17)

Are the golfing gods behind Paul Casey? He was 20 over on the 17th before rolling that birdie in from 35 feet.

  15. Lahiri holds his nervepublished at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Lahiri -9 (17)

Held it together nicely. Par it is. That is Anirban Lahiri's second 67 of the week.

  16. Back-to-back birdies on 17 for Caseypublished at 14:10 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Peter Scrivener
    BBC Sport at TPC Sawgrass

A second big birdie in succession for Casey on 17 after his 53-foot monster in round two.

He nails his 35-footer down the slope today with the fans urging it on.

The grass bank is barely a quarter full but the cheers are louder than that.

He walks off the green without a flicker of emotion on his face, under the stand we go and out into brilliant sunshine and the final hole of the round.

  17. Postpublished at 14:10 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Lahiri -9 (17)

Percentage golf from the unlikely leader, Anirban Lahiri, on the 18th. He finds the middle of the fairway then clips his iron shot into 27 feet.

His first putt is totally misread mind, as it fails to turn in from right to left leaving an awkward 10 footer or so for par.

  18. What a difference a day makespublished at 14:04 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Peter Scrivener
    BBC Sport at TPC Sawgrass

The thick rough is still damp from the morning dew but the rest of the course is drying out quickly as the sun heats up the day. It really is quite pleasant out here now.

There is a slight breeze in the air and it’s coming from behind the players on 17.

Not that they’ll feel it with the hospitality stands, that are currently largely empty, sheltering the tee. The flags on top are the only indicators.

  19. Thomas takes his medicinepublished at 14:04 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Thomas -3 (F)

Justin Thomas' round has not gone to plan either. The defending champion zings a superb iron into the green on the 18th but he's looking at a bogey after finding the water with his second out of the rough.

He actually does okay there to limit the damage after being left with a 12-foot putt.

Just how far back is too far?

  20. Molinari slips uppublished at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Molinari -4 (F)

Francesco Molinari, who we saw loads of on Sunday, is nursing back-to-back bogeys as he trundles into the clubhouse, which explains his absence from lots of the TV coverage.
