    Thomas -5, Watson -5 (2)

Bubba Watson and Justin Thomas both smoke their drives down the middle of the fairway but neither threaten the pin with their approaches. Pars all round it is with both tapping in from under four feet.

  2. Postpublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    McIlroy -4, Ancer -4 (3)

Almost! Lovely touch from McIlroy to clip on and run his ball up towards the pin, but it doesn't quite have the legs and stops a few rotations short. That'll be a third par on the bounce to start.

    Abraham Ancer follows suit.

  3. Dropped shot for Zalatorispublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Zalatoris -8, Pereira -8 (1)

Bad start for our leader, who is now our joint-leader after finding the bunker with his second and then leaving himself with too much to do out of the sand.

Pereira also finds the same bunker but his escape is a bit closer and he's able to convert to stay at eight under.

  4. Postpublished at 20:09 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    McIlroy -4, Ancer -4 (2)

Another decent drive from Rory McIlroy, who has got it away nicely off the tee so far. This one runs to 331 yards, leaving him a little gap wedge over the creek into the green.

Just a tad short and it doesn't stick on the green, spinning back off the front of the smooth stuff.

  5. Fitzpatrick falterspublished at 20:07 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Fitzpatrick -1 (2)

Bogey, bogey start for Matt Fitzpatrick who finds the fairway bunker on the first and takes a penalty stroke on the second after landing in the creek that also did for Tyrell Hatton earlier.

Early ground lost by the Englishman, whose best finish in a major came at 2016 Masters when he ended up in a tie for seventh.

  6. Postpublished at 20:01 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Power -1 (7)

There's nobody really 'making a move' as yet, but Seamus Power has just carded back-to-back birdies, and left a third birdie putt on seven hanging right on the edge of the cup.

He strolls up there hoping for a breath of wind to waft across the green, but the ball stays up and he's robbed of the hat-trick.

  8. Postpublished at 20:00 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    McIlroy -4, Ancer -4 (2)

Ooof! It had to come a long way, some 27 feet, but that was straight as an arrow from Rory McIlroy and always looked to be flirting with the cup, in the end his ball just leaves its number and says call me later... waltzing on by to leave the four-time major champ what should be a tiddler for par.

  9. Bogey start for Thomaspublished at 19:58 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Thomas -5, Watson -5

Just a par for Bubba Watson on the first as his birdie putt dies on him. Still a steady par start is more than okay.

JT on the other hand is in a touch of trouble with the wind taking hold of his second to send it sailing past the green. He flips back to 11 feet but sees a par-saving putt creep right.

  10. Leaders tee offpublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Zalatoris -9, Pereira -8

The leaders are off, and it's a bit of a nervy tee shot from Zalatoris in all honesty, but Pereira looks as cool as a Chilean cucumber as he stripes one off the tee down onto the fairway.

  11. Postpublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    McIlroy -4, Ancer -4 (1)

Rory McIlroy finds the fairway this time and then flicks a wedge into the heart of the green, a little cleaner than his opening hole. Ancer, meanwhile, sends his approach into the sand on the 504-yard par-four second. Birdie chance for Rors?

  12. Postpublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Arnaus -2 (7)

World number 56 Adri Arnaus is having a solid round and is up into the top 10 after two birdies in his first five holes today.

The Spaniard was a recent winner on the DP World Tour on home soil at the Catalunya Championship, and is playing nicely again here.

He's not had a bogey since the first hole of his second round.

  13. Postpublished at 19:46 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Thomas -6, Watson -5

Justin Thomas is rocking a grey cardigan on the first tee. You know the look, very mid noughties night-out style.

Bubba Watson goes with your standard sweatshirt again in grey, clearly these boys didn't colour coordinate like lads ready to hit the town.

Both are looking good mind, oh and also in great shape in golfing terms after their drives find the middle of the fairway.

  14. McIlroy scrambles for parpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    McIlroy -4, Ancer -4 (19:30 BST)

Rory McIlroy doesn't catch that how he would have hoped and stays down the left of the first, finishing in a greenside bunker. He'll need a little up-and-down from here to salvage par.

But it's a wonderful escape from the Northern Irishman and it leaves him with three feet to finish off, a solid scrambling par.

Abraham Ancer has a chance to move to five under here... but that birdie putt stays up.

  15. Zalatoris putting on a showpublished at 19:43 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Zalatoris -9, Pereira -8 (19:50)

Will Zalatoris hasn't even won on the PGA Tour yet, but he's in the hunt again at the majors - he obviously saves his best game for the big ones.

A lot has, and will, be said about his putting, but he's not having too many problems with the flat stick so far at Southern Hills.

I wonder how it will hold up today?

  16. Hatton's horror show on the secondpublished at 19:40 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Hatton E (2)

How to drop 15 places on the leaderboard in a hole....maybe ask Tyrell Hatton.

The Englishman finds the diagonal fairway creek on the second, takes a penalty and ends up in the greenside bunker with his fourth and ends up throwing up a triple-bogey seven.

How will he fare on the third...Oh, miles right off the tee. He'll need a map to get back from there and all after a birdie start.

  17. Simpson goes lowpublished at 19:40 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Simpson -1 (65)

American Webb Simpson has posted the round of the day so far, a spectacular 65 that included five birdies and an eagle at the par-five 13th to take him to one under for the tournament.

It would've been even better but for two bogeys on the front nine.

Quick, and easy, one this one...

Tony Finau's attire today, thumbs up or thumbs down?

  19. McIlroy under waypublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    McIlroy -4, Ancer -4 (19:30 BST)

Rory McIlroy will see this pairing off. A drive that starts right and wheels back across the fairway before coming to a halt just to the left of a bunker on the light rough.

Abraham Ancer begins on a similar trajectory with a tidy draw that straightens up to split the fairway.

  20. Postpublished at 19:29 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Thomas -6, Watson -5 (19:40 BST)

    Justin ThomasImage source, Getty Images

Justin Thomas starts his third round three shots off the lead after posting a three-under 67 in both of his two rounds so far.

The 2017 PGA Championship winner will be accompanied at Southern Hills by two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson with both probably hoping for more of the same.

The 43-year-old stormed into contention with a seven-under 63 to equal the PGA Championship 18-hole scoring record.
