    McIlroy -4, Ancer -4 (19:30 BST)

Right then, can Rory McIlroy reboot his charge for a first major in eight years? He heads to the tee alongside Mexico's Abraham Ancer. Both are currently five off the pace in Tulsa.

Some idle chit chat as they wait to get going.

American golf analyst and coach Peter Kostis has worked with the likes of Paul Casey, Chez Reavie and Bernhard Langer. Oh and Kevin Costner on the movie 'Tin Cup' and he has a slightly different opinion on Tiger Woods' struggles.

Joe: Tiger Woods was nine over par for eight holes [at one stage]. He won't think it now, but every week spent on the course is another week getting fitter for the future.

A slightly different Tiger view incoming next...

    Fleetwood +3 (7)

Tommy Fleetwood is in the pairing directly behind Bob MacIntyre and he's enduring mixed fortunes.

Three successive bogeys to open up with were followed by a couple of birdies and a par as he stabilised his round.

But as I write all this, he finds the greenside bunker at the seventh and can't scramble up and down in two to drop another shot.

Bucking his usual trend of slow starts at majors, Rory McIlroy was the overnight leader after day one only to find himself five shots adrift of Will Zalatoris come the end of play on Friday.

"If someone said you would be fifth going into the weekend that would be a good position," he said. "If that is the bad one out of the way I am still in a good position.

"We will see a completely different golf course, the wind is going to do a 180, so there is not going to be a lot of people who have seen the golf course in the wind we'll get.

"That will be an extra challenge and will make it pretty interesting."

Woods made five straight bogeys in a major for the first time as a professional, but it's not his worst score...

    Woods +12 (79)

Tiger Woods finishes off with a par - not a bad route in after the chaos that came before it. Four pars and a birdie to tidy things up.

He'll be pleased to put his feet up and start some recovery work ready to go again on Sunday.

    Simpson -1 (65)

A few of those still to tee off would snap your hand off for Webb Simpson's round. The 2012 US Open winner has climbed 45 places on the leaderboard with a five under 65 in pretty dismal conditions.

  9. MacIntyre's miserable startpublished at 19:11 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    MacIntyre +7 (7)

It's been a horrendous start for Scotland's Bob MacIntyre, who has opened up with three bogeys and a double in his first six holes.

Surely it can only get better from here right? After finding the sand on the seventh he chips on to leave a 30 footer just to save his par.

He was never going to make that was he? Another bogey adds into his miserable mix.

Where's this being played Todmorden or Tulsa? We've pretty much had all four seasons at Southern Hills so far. Looks like the early starters may just about get the best of things although I'd maybe not mention that to Tiger Woods.

The short turnaround might've been just a little too much for Tiger this time...

The 15-time major champion did remarkably to make the cut, but has had a day to forget in Tulsa.

Woods has made seven bogeys during his round and a triple on the par-three sixth, although he did claw a birdie back on the 15th.

He is nine over for his round, which takes the American to 12 over for the tournament, with one hole left to play.
