    Fitzpatrick -4, Zalatoris -4 (19:45)

The leaders are away. Matt Fitzpatrick takes a similar line to Jon Rahm, zipping his ball down the left of the fairway to leave an iron from 160 yards or so into the green.

Will Zalatoris goes right with his ball just trickling off the manicured fairway to the first cut.

  2. Postpublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

    McIlroy -2, Burns -1 (2)

Rory McIlroy has given himself a good chance at saving par.

He drags the ball out of the rough and it stops about 10ft from the hole.

  3. Postpublished at 19:47 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

    Bradley -1, Rahm -3

    Slightly underwhelming...

Jon Rahm's second into the first has a decent line but comes up short of the green so he'll have to dust off his wedge early on unless he elects to bump and run and longer iron in towards the pin.

It's the much shorter iron and he tidily knocks it to within a couple of feet. Par on the way.

Keegan Bradley finds the sand with his second and is faced with a rather awkward lob out, running his ball past the pin by a good 10 feet.

That costs the American who drops an early shot.

  4. McIlroy in the roughpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

    McIlroy -2, Burns -1 (2)

McIlroy went left off the third tee, gaining some distance on the downhill but admittedly snuggling himself up behind a mound of rock which will block his view of the pin.

It turns out not being able to see the hole wasn't a great idea. McIlroy's ball has landed in the rough to the left of the green. He'll need something more to keep pressure on the fast-climbing Scheffler.

  5. Birdie start for Schefflerpublished at 19:43 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

    Scottie Scheffler -3, Adam Hadwin -2 (1)

Wonderful start from Scheffler with an opening birdie after a fine approach - he really does make the game look stupidly easy when he's on song.

We had plenty of action from Scottie yesterday with birdies, eagles , bogeys and double bogeys - and this could be fun again.

  6. Postpublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

    McIlroy -2, Burns -1 (2)

Another tee shot absolutely nailed by Rory McIlroy, this time on the par-four third.

He is flying through these first few holes. Here's hoping it stays that way...

  7. Postpublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

    Bradley -2, Rahm -3

The defending champion Jon Rahm is up and running.

The Spaniard briefly held the outright lead until a double bogey on the 18th in round three but he'll fancy this and booms his tee shot down the fairway.

Keegan Bradley also away okay, albeit his ball just runs a little right into the slightly longer grass down the right of the fairway.

  8. World No.1 tees offpublished at 19:38 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

Scottie Scheffler -2, Adam Hadwin -2

The Masters champion Scottie Scheffler tees off as he looks to become only the second man to win the US Open as the current world number one.

Bet you can't guess who the only man to do that is??

  9. Par for McIlroypublished at 19:36 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

    McIlroy -2, Burns -1 (2)

Back-to-back birdies might have been a bit much to ask.

McIlroy's putt stays right of the hole and he taps in for a par.

Sam Burns gets out of the bunker well and gets his par too.

They're both looking very cosy in thick grey jumpers. Chilly day in Brookline, apparently.

Sir Nick Faldo has got all the bases covered at the top of the leaderboard and the six-time major winner has offered Matt Fitzpatrick some advice on how to break his major duck.

As we settle in for this final round and before the leaders go out, take a look at the best of the action from yesterday...

  13. Postpublished at 19:29 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

    McIlroy -2, Burns -1 (1)

The fans are loving McIlroy's every move.

And to be fair he deserves it as he follows up that birdie on the first with a lovely tee shot on the second. He's on the green with a birdie chance on the par three.

Unfortunately, Sam Burns is in the bunker.

  14. Sunday pinspublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

Here's where the all-important pins have been placed for today's final round of the US Open.

The hole location (9-5L) on Hole 17 is representative of the hole location used in the final round of the 1913 US. Open where Francis Ouimet made a critical birdie on his way to victory.

The hole location (6-9R) on Hole 18 is representative of the hole location used in the final round of the 1988 US Open where Curtis Strange made a crucial par four from the front bunker to force the Monday play-off with Nick Faldo which he ultimately won.

Basically neither worked out well for British players then, not that any of us were around to watch Harry Vardon and Ted Ray go toe-to-toe with Ouimet.

Most of us have watched the movie 'The Greatest Game Ever Played' though which recounts the story.

  15. Birdie timepublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

    McIlroy -2, Burns -1 (1)

Here's Rory on the first green. A left-to-righter down the hill. The 2011 champion sets his ball a couple of feet outside the hole and watches as it tracks all the way to the bottom of the cup.

That was never anywhere but in. What a start!

Burns up next. Steady two putts. Par.

  16. Postpublished at 19:23 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

    McIlroy -1, Burns -1

Sam Burns to play first, from 195 yards, firing a mid-iron to the front of the green and his ball trundles about 25 feet beyond the pin.

Rory from the lighter rough, 60 yards closer in, slightly overcooks his effort but he has more control over his ball and it too comes to rest around 25 feet from the hole.

  19. What will it take to win?published at 19:18 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

As some of the main contenders finish off their final preparations on the range and practice greens, the big question is just what sort of score will be needed to win this year's US Open?

Will Rory McIlroy be able to produce another final-round charge for example?

Well if he's been watching Guido Migliozzi, the Northern Irishman will be able to take plenty of heart.

The Italian covered the front nine in 31 thanks to an eagle, three birdies and a solitary bogey.

And is still three under for the day despite bogeys on the 11th and 13th.

  20. Rory awaypublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 19 June 2022

    McIlroy -1, Burns -1

And here is Rory McIlroy on the first tee. Grey fleece over the top of a mint green polo shirt.

The US Open trophy behind him as he launches one down the middle. The ball skips a couple of yards off the fairway. In the first cut, by a sprinkler head.

Sam Burns tries to cut off a bit of the dogleg left but clatters into a tree. An early break for the American as his ball bounces into the open. It's in the rough but a decent lie.
