    LIV and let LIV, eh?

Bryson DeChambeau holds the clubhouse lead at Oak Hill after the opening day's play in this year's US PGA Championship - with LIV stablemate Dustin Johnson among three players a shot behind.

But Eric Cole is the name at the top of the standings with four holes of his first round still to complete when he comes back in a few hours' time.

It's been an intriguing opening round with a later than expected finish due to frost delaying the start of play earlier today.

That will have a knock-on effect on Friday, with some first rounds still to be completed - we'll be back with live text coverage of the early starts from 1200 BST. Join us then.

It's only the first round, yes - and even that's not fully complete due to the late start - but things are bubbling up nicely in upstate New York.

Big names populating the leaderboard, alongside a couple of surprise packages, most notably leader Eric Cole.

    -5 Cole (14)

    -4 DeChambeau

    -3 Scheffler, Conners, D Johnson

    -2 Scott, Fox, Hovland, Bradley

Justin Rose's is Britain's sole representative in the top 20, sitting among 10 players on one under par.

    D Johnson -3, Schauffele +2, Hatton +7

This rescue act proves beyond even Dustin Johnson. Decent putt from about 15-20 feet but it just goes past. He drops out of a share of second place into a tie for third.

Xander Schauffele bogeys the last as well to finish on two over.

Tyrrell Hatton missed a birdie chance and signs for a seven-over 77. Bad day for the Englishman.

  5. Fleetwood digs in as Hatton strugglespublished at 01:49 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

Justin Rose has been the most impressive of the Brits today but it's been a solid round from Tommy Fleetwood who closed his day off with a bogey at the last to finish on +2.

Less content will be Tyrell Hatton who has been in good form recently but was three shots back after two holes and has never recovered. He's managed to finish his round but +7 was not part of the plan.

The 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett is in the clubhouse after a round of 75 (+4), as is Scotland's Robert MacIntyre who shot 77 (+6) on day one.

Still to finish up, Matt Wallace is on +3 and has four holes left to play.

    D Johnson -4 (17)

Dustin Johnson is in danger of emulating Adam Scott at the 18th.

A bunker shot goes well wide of the green, in deep rough - yet another up and down needed to save par, and this is the toughest of the lot. And he's had a few.

  7. Postpublished at 01:44 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Finau +2, Scott -2, Homa +1 (F)

It had been a very composed performance from Adam Scott with just one bogey interrupting his five birdies on day one.

    Until 18.

He'll be kicking himself after a double bogey in the darkness. Two under will sting after such a good round.

Tony Finau was out of it at six back after nine holes but he's strung an excellent second half together and two over par is surely not out of it at this stage.

As for Max Homa, he's scrapped to one over and is in the mix after day one.

They are probably all just relieved to get out of here with their round complete.

  8. Cole calls it a nightpublished at 01:36 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Cole -5 (14)

Eric Cole is likely to be the overnight leader.

As darkness sets in, he marks his drive on the sixth hole and packs up his golf bag.

The 34-year-old American, a US PGA Championship debutant, will return to play the final three and a half holes of his opening round early on Friday.

  9. Postpublished at 01:34 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Finau +2, Scott -4, Homa +1 (17)

Oh no, trouble for Adam Scott on 18.

His approach shot finds the left-hand bunker. He hacks at a wedge but it careers off the bank and rebounds back into the sand.

He digs it out at the second attempt but faces a tricky 12-footer just to make bogey.

    D Johnson -4 (17)

Three salvage jobs in four holes for Dustin Johnson.

He saves par again on 17 a couple of minutes before the hooter sounded.

His group managed to get their tee shots in on 18 too prior to the klaxon - but Johnson is again wide right. Giving himself work to do to retain a share of the clubhouse lead.

The end of play is nigh.

Officials have just sounded the hooter to signal the end of play for the day because of darkness. The players can finish the hole they are on.

  12. Postpublished at 01:30 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Mickelson +1, Cantlay +4, Fowler +2 (16)

Three straight pars for Mickelson who has just two holes left to play but it doesn't look like he'll be able to finish with darkness growing around Oak Hill.

Fowler wasted a decent look for a birdie as he remains on two over.

  13. Postpublished at 01:30 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Rose -1 (14)

Justin Rose is the latest to take on the 317-yard par-four 14th and, like so many before him today, misses the green out to the right and is left with an awkward chip up and over the rough.

He makes a bit of a hash of it and is still in the deep stuff. But he flicks his third in close.

A lot of focus on this one. It's straight. And in. A little shake of the head. He knows this round could have been several shots better and what a missed opportunity it has been.

  14. Postpublished at 01:24 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Finau +2, Scott -4, Homa +1 (17)

That's the penultimate hole safely navigated for Tony Finau, Adam Scott and Max Homa.

They race to the 18th tee as the light continues to die here at Oak Hill.

I'm sure they will be desperate to see it through and avoid the early return tomorrow.

  15. Rushing Rose dropspublished at 01:21 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Rose -1 (13)

Another one guilty of perhaps rushing a little is Justin Rose. He's on the par-five 13th green in three and looking at an 18-footer for birdie.

But the Englishman gives that a bit of a clout and the ball races four feet past. The return par putt stays on the green. Shot gone. Again.

We're getting close to the hooter sounding to signal the end of play. Once it does go, players can choose to finish the hole they are on

  16. Postpublished at 01:18 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    D Johnson -4 (16)

Dustin Johnson is errant off the tee again on 17, after completing the rescue job again on the previous hole.

He might need a similar escape act depending on the lie in the rough.

  17. Poor finish for Pieterspublished at 01:17 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Pieters -1 (69)

    Thomas PietersImage source, Getty Images

A careless three-putt bogey to finish for Thomas Pieters. He hits the first from 26 feet to around three but then rushes it a little and pays the price.

The Belgian has a face like thunder as he finishes up. He's left a lot of shots out on the course but under par round here represents an excellent start.

  18. Cole takes outright leadpublished at 01:14 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Cole -5 (13)

    Eric ColeImage source, Getty Images

There are some big guns on the leaderboard but Eric Cole tops them all.

The 34-year-old American completes three consecutive birdies with a short-range conversion on the 13th.

Some performance thus far from the US PGA debutant.

  19. Postpublished at 01:14 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Finau -2, Scott -4, Homa +1 (16)

Tony Finau has worked so hard to get himself back into this, but his accuracy off the tee slips again and he's in a whole lot of bother out left on 17.

Starting out in thick grass, he goes for the flag but can only bump his shot down into yet more gross undergrowth.

It'll be tricky to save par from there.

Adam Scott is safely on the green in two - can he warm his putter up as the temperature continues to drop?

  20. Postpublished at 01:12 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Mickelson +1, Cantlay +3, Fowler +2 (14)

Rickie Fowler grabs a shot back on the course by taking advantage of the short par-four as he edges back towards level par, which will be the aim from the final few holes.
