    D Johnson -4 (15)

DJ is out of the rough but looks to be in straight into a greenside bunker.

In danger of giving up a share of the lead here. Needs and up-and-down rescue like he pulled out at the 14th.

    Pieters -2 (17*)

Thomas Pieters has made it to the ninth, his final hole of the day. I thought he was going to combust on the previous hole after his par putt wiped its feet before dropping.

From the middle of the fairway, he finds the middle of the green, 25 feet from the pin. Big birdie try coming up. He's in a great spot but just think how much better the post-round meal will taste with a birdie to finish.

    D Johnson -4 (15)

More bother for Dustin Johnson at the 466-yard 16th.

He's wide off the tee again and his ball lands in a real clumpy, hilly mound of rough on the left-hand side of the fairway.

  4. Scott fails from five feet for outright leadpublished at 01:06 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Finau -2, Scott -4, Homa +1 (16)

Ouch, that'll sting for Adam Scott. He thought he had the line but his putt swung left at the last minute. It's a four, and he still has a share of the lead but that was a chance.

The Tony Finau revival continues and it was almost a fourth straight birdie - and from fully 67 feet. his putt rolls inches by but he secures a par to keep the wheels turning, with Max Homa following him with a four.

Well, well, well, here's Justin Rose picking up another birdie on the 12th. His 20-foot putt is going nowhere but the centre of the cup.

He won't finish tonight but he's putting together a useful round.

    Scott -4 (15)

The stands are bare on the par-four 16th so there's nobody really around to appreciate a beautiful pitch shot from Adam Scott.

He's knocked it to five feet and could be out on his own at the top of the leaderboard very shortly.

  7. Cole into four-way tie for leadpublished at 01:00 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Cole -4 (12*)

We have a four-way tie at the top of the leaderboard.

American Eric Cole joins Bryson DeChambeau, Adam Scott and Dustin Johnson on four under with a brilliant 25-footer on the third green.

Cole has golf in the blood - his mother, Laura Baugh, won the 1971 US Women’s Amateur at 16 years of age, while his father, Bobby Cole, registered 13 worldwide professional victories and tied for third in both the PGA Championship and The Open in the 1970s.

  8. Kim goes fishingpublished at 00:58 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Kim +3 (15*)

Just seen a shot of South Korea's Tom Kim.

The 20-year-old has been sucked into the mud while going after his ball on the seventh hole, and is absolutely covered in thick, black gunge.

He took his shoes and socks off in preparation - don't think he quite expected such a coating!

Then, he goes to wash himself in the creek and falls again, thoroughly drenched.

After some serious cleaning up, he's whipped his shirt off and put his long-sleeved top on.

That post-round shower is going to feel so good.

Watch him shoot four on this hole now.

    Rose -1 (11)

Justin Rose is going hunting for another birdie on the par-four 12th.

A solid drive leaves him an 80% wedge from 100 yards. He probably hits it about 78%. Pulls up short and spins further away.

Still, he's got a 20-footer for a sixth birdie of the day - and what would be the first on his back nine.

  10. DJ saves par at 14published at 00:55 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    D Johnson -4, Schauffele +1 (14)

They say the par saves are as vital as the birdies and after his wayward tee shot, co-leader Dustin Johnson has done superbly to avoid dropping a shot on the 14th.

Nails the six-footer after a fine chip to set it up.

Playing partner Xander Schauffele continues his own revival with a birdie, he's back to one over, having been four over after three holes.

  11. Finau flexing his musclespublished at 00:50 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Finau +2, Scott -4, Homa +1 (15)

It feels like the pace of play is quickening - or maybe just my eyelids are closing - and this trio is finding real form down the stretch.

Tony Finau has sunk another long putt and that's four birdies in five. His awful stretch of six dropped shots between holes four and seven has been put to bed - and he definitely doesn't want play to stop just yet.

Joint leader Adam Scott has a similarly long putt and is off target but he is still able to close off the hole with a par.

Three holes to go for this group.

  12. Late birdiespublished at 00:48 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Mickelson +1, Cantlay +3, Fowler +3 (13)

Birdies for Mickelson and Cantlay at the par five 13th as conditions look pretty good for scoring in the final throws of the day - certainly no wind to speak of with just the temperatures droppings as evening closes in.

  13. Postpublished at 00:44 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Cole -3 (11*)

American Eric Cole has quietly been moving up the leaderboard.

A fourth birdie of the day on the second hole takes him to -3 and within one shot of the leaders.

It's his first year on the PGA tour and he'already boasts a fifth-placed finish at last month's Mexico Open.

One to keep an eye on.

  14. Postpublished at 00:42 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    D Johnson -4 (13)

DJ takes his medicine out of the rough, ignoring the pin and playing it safe on to the bigger portion of the green.

But it's a bit heavy and goes off the edge on the other side. A testing up and down to save par and remain co-leader.

His third shot is a very good chip-on to leave a six-footer...

  15. Rose drops againpublished at 00:41 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Rose -1 (11)

The trials and tribulations of Justin Rose continue on the long par-three 11th. He's tugged his tee shot way left, albeit pin high on the 248-yard hole.

He gets a bit of a break with his ball finishing in an area of rough that has been well trampled down by the spectators. A 7/10 wedge onto the green leaves a 15-footer for par.

Sadly, Rose has not been dealing well in pars today with just three so far. And he's not getting a fourth here.

  16. Scott goes joint toppublished at 00:38 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Finau +3, Scott -4, Homa +1 (14)

A fruitful 14th hole for the trio as Finau, Scott and Homa all help themselves to birdie.

Scott's short putt moves him level with DJ and Bryson at the top.

  17. Trouble for co-leader Johnsonpublished at 00:37 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    D Johnson -4 (13)

Dustin Johnson is notoriously nerveless, unflappable.

But he responds to taking a share of the lead with his worst shot of the day, a drive on the 14th that is miles right.

    Finau +4, Scott -3 (13)

After that interlude with the broadcasters, Tony Finau has a chance to set up for birdie from the front greenside bunker.

He does just that, clumping it out of the sand and leaving himself with seven feet to claw back another.

Playing partner Adam Scott goes one better, nudging to within three feet and looking set to join the leaders at -4.

  19. The rough has been a handful - Finaupublished at 00:32 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Finau +4 (13)

Tony Finau has two birdies in his last three holes so Sky Sports caught up with him as he trundled down the short par-four 14th.

"The rough has been a handful here," he said. "I haven't hit a lot of fairways today.

"But there is so much golf in front of me and it has been nice to get a couple back to try and get my mojo going.

"It's definitely got cooler since we started. The sun is going down and we'll see how long they keep us playing for."

  20. DJ moves into share of leadpublished at 00:31 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    D Johnson -4 (13)

A delicate chip from the fringe across the green affords Dustin Johnson a two-footer for a share of the lead.

It's a formality and DJ moves alongside his fellow LIV player and compatriot Bryson DeChambeau at the top of the US PGA Championship leaderboard.
