  1. Missed opportunitiespublished at 00:21 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Mickelson +2, Cantlay +4, Fowler +3 (12)

Rickie Fowler putts through an ever-increasing shadow as the evening draws in and his birdie try from 32 feet pulls up short.

Mickelson also misses from about 10 feet as the players on the course now start to run out of daylight.

  2. Pieters picks up anotherpublished at 00:19 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Rose -2 (9), Pieters -3 (15*)

Find the fairway, find the green. Justin Rose does just that on the 10th to leave himself with a birdie-look from 10 feet.

Belgium's Thomas Pieters does the same on the sixth and has a similar putt.

And the LIV golfer rolls it in to get within one of the lead.

Up on 10, Rose tries to coax his ball down the hill. Doesn't hit it though.

    Finau +4, Scott -3, Homa +2 (13)

I said it was a searing second shot and Tony Finau backs it up with a masterful chip close to the flag.

He knocks it in for birdie and his comeback is starting to move through the gears.

Adam Scott was in trouble in the rough but he finds his way to the back of the green and is inches away from a perfect right-to-left read with his birdie putt.

It's not got the legs but Scott is safely in for par, as is Max Homa.

Woah, a ripper from Tony Finau.

He crunches his second shot plumb straight down the fairway and within touching distance of the green.

Adam Scott pulls up short, hoping for a kind bounce from the rough but sees his ball sink into the thick stuff.

A more conservative approach from Max Homa who lays up to 120 yards from the pin.

  5. Racing the sunpublished at 00:08 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Pieters -2 (14*)

Belgium's Thomas Pieters is keeping European flags flying high on the leaderboard.

A decent par save on the fifth sees him stay two off the lead. He looks like he's got a little spring in his step. He's got four holes left to play and will undoubtedly be keen to get finished up before it gets dark tonight.

Sunset in Rochester is 20:30 local time - 01:30 BST.

  6. Postpublished at 00:07 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Mickelson +1, Cantlay +4, Fowler +3 (11)

It's another shot gone for Cantlay who follows a double with a bogey and his tournament is slipping away from him as the sun starts to set at Oak Hill.

  7. Birdie for DJpublished at 00:06 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    D Johnson -3 (12)

Wherever Dustin Johnson kicked himself, he's now kissing it better.

WHAT a birdie putt, 30 feet up the slope. Contender for shot of the day.

Up to three under and a share for second place.

  8. Birdie time for JR againpublished at 00:06 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Rose -2

Back to Justin Rose on the ninth green. He's left himself a little left-to-righter, the sort that you set off a ball outside the cup and watch with great satisfaction as it trundles towards the hole and drops in at the last roll.

A fifth birdie in nine holes for JR, to go with a bogey, a double bogey and two pars. Quite the opening nine.

  9. Postpublished at 00:05 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    D Johnson -2 (11)

Dustin Johnson will be kicking himself.

A trademark majestic drive on the 413-yard 12th hole leaves a simple chip on to the green but Johnson leaves it far too short and it rolls back down the slope.

    Finau +5, Scott -3, Homa +2 (12)

The par-five 13th is a real monster at 617 yards.

Adam Scott and Tony Finau smoke their drives down the fairway and land almost next to each other. Just the 330 yards to go lads.

Max Homa tugs his tee shot left but digs it out effectively with his second to give himself a look at the green.

    Rose -1 (8)

Justin Rose has parred just two of his opening eight holes.

What's the ninth going to bring? Well, a 280-yard drive is arrow straight, leaving a 210-yard second, which he nails to about 10 feet.

This would be a fifth birdie on the front nine...

  12. Postpublished at 23:55 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Finau +5, Scott -3, Homa +2 (12)

It was a 73-footer for Adam Scott so certainly not the easiest of birdie looks.

He rolls it in close though and bags another par.

He's followed in by Tony Finau who makes it three bogey-free holes.

Max Homa meanwhile is looking for some momentum and a 13-foot birdie putt could just deliver it. Well executed by the American.

  13. Double for Cantlaypublished at 23:52 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Mickelson +1, Cantlay +3, Fowler +3 (10)

    Patrick CantlayImage source, Getty Images

Mickelson muscles his second out of the rough and close enough for him to two putt for par, but Fowler can't chunk his second shot close enough as he drops a shot.

Cantlay's made a mess of that one after finding the drink off the tee and when he finally sinks a putt it's for a double bogey six.

  14. Postpublished at 23:48 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Scott -3 (11)

That's new for this round - Adam Scott has mistimed his drive slightly and it's flown out right from the tee box and he's stuck in the rough.

It's a good job the trees have been cut down though as part of the 2019 course restoration. This would have been a decidedly dicier shot when we were last here in 2013.

As it is, he flops it out and finds the putting surface. He's a looong way back, but it'll still be a birdie look for the Australian.

  15. Rose up and down the leaderboardpublished at 23:45 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Rose -1 (8)

How's the lie in the rough off the back of the eighth green Justin? Not too bad. A little clip onto the putting surface and let the ball run out.

He's not quite given that enough juice though and leaves himself with an eight-footer for par.

When he won his US Open in 2013, you'd back him to make 90% of these.

Today, he's not quite so deadly. Shot gone.

  16. Fore!published at 23:42 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Mickelson +1, Cantlay +1, Fowler +2 (9)

The radars are a little off on the 10th as Fowler finds the rough, Mickelson finds the spectators and Cantlay finds the water!

  17. Leaderboard updatepublished at 23:42 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

No one making massive moves right now. But this isn't a course you can really string together a run of birdies.

    -4 DeChambeau (F)

    -3 Scheffler (F), Scott (10), Conners (F), Straka (13)

    -2 Fox (F), Hovland (F), Bradley (F), Buckley (14), Pieters (12), Cole (7), Rose (7), D Johnson

  18. Mickelson misses birdie chancepublished at 23:40 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Mickelson +1, Cantlay +1, Fowler +2 (9)

Mickelson gives himself a solid look at birdie from 12 feet on nine, but he can't find the hole so he hits the turn in one over, as does Cantlay, while Fowler is a shot worse off.

  19. Johnson moves to two underpublished at 23:40 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    D Johnson -2 (10)

    Dustin JohnsonImage source, Getty Images

Dustin Johnson is inching ominously up the leaderboard.

A 12-footer is sunk with aplomb for his second birdie in three holes.

He's barely put a foot wrong so far.

  20. Postpublished at 23:40 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

    Finau +5, Scott -3, Homa +3 (11)

Welcome to the US PGA Championship Tony Finau!

His tee shot on 11 leaves him with a 45-foot putt for birdie but that's no trouble for Finau who calmly rolls it in for a much-needed birdie.

Adam Scott goes next and has a read from Finau's putt but leaves it short and will have to settle for par.

The final member of the trio Max Homa chips out of the rough to 13 feet but hangs an awkward putt left of the flag and it's another bogey for the Farmers Open winner.
