Brian Harman on why he and Max Homa make such a good team: "Good looks."

On a more serious note, Harman says the USA are up for the fight tomorrow.

Harman: "We've got a deep hope to climb out of. But we've got some good players and got a good team. So we're going to fight like hell and either win or die trying.

Max Homa on USA unity: "I really believe that everybody on this team believes in each other.

"It is a massive hole, don't get me wrong, but I believe in every single one of these people to put a point on the board.

"So hopefully we'll go out there tomorrow and just go crazy like we can. And it will be fun. I know everybody is trying their hardest, and I think we're due. So looking forward to tomorrow."

    Homa/Harmon bt Fleetwood/Hojgaard 2&1

Nicolai Hojgaard on that epic struggle and back-nine comeback in a losing effort: "It was good fun out there. The crowds were great. It's never fun losing.

"I hate losing, and we gave it our best today and we got down pretty early, and it was a tough grind.

"We hung in there on the back nine trying to gain momentum. Didn't have our luck with us today but we've got tomorrow and we'll go out and try our best to get some points."

    Fitzpatrick/McIlroy v Cantlay/Clark A/S (17)

Looks like the whole of Rome is down by the 18th green at Marco Simone.

Even the Pope might have left the Vatican for the occasion.

Fitzpatrick had a less favourable drive than the Americans but seems to be the frontrunner know, knocking his third to within putting distance.

    Fitzpatrick/McIlroy v Cantlay/Clark A/S (17)

McIlroy is the last of the final four to go with his second shot.

He's gone that far left it seems like he's got a decent lie on the grass trampled down by the feet of fans.

It fizzes out and he's gone right too... he is in the same bunker which Cantlay has just about escaped.

Has Clark got rid of the demons from yesterday? Not fully. The nerves kick in again and he's pushed his approach right.

Cantlay to go next and he's got a much kinder lie on the fairway. The cheers from the home fans reinforce the fact he's gone right... could be in the bunker.

Look at that sunset. Look at the colour of the sky.

While it would be the perfect backdrop for a Monet painting, it's not ideal for a closing final golf hole heading towards dusk.

Fitzpatrick needs to use his hand to see where he's heading, but still makes a good fist of his second from the rough.

Patrick Cantlay’s putt had barely hit the bottom of the cup on the 17th and scores of fans were ducking under the ropes on the 18th and sprinting across the fairway away from the marshals.

    Fitzpatrick/McIlroy v Cantlay/Clark A/S (17)

A belter of a drive from Wyndham Clark is the pick of the bunch on the last, almost 350 yards down the middle.

Wasn't he there yesterday? Yeah, then he shanked one and it enabled Justin Rose to burgle a half point.

Rory McIlroy goes for the fairway with his big dog, he's pulled it left.

    Eeek! This is tense.

Anyone confident enough to predict which way this final match will go?

    Thumbs up for Europe.

    Thumbs down for the US.

    The half? Er, don't bother.

Wyndham Clark hasn't really contributed at all.

It's all been Patrick Cantlay. The weight of the Ryder Cup is on his shoulders.

Tommy Fleetwood may have lost his match this afternoon, but he produced one of the best shots, and one of the best celebrations, of the day.

You have to say that's magnificent.

Patrick Cantlay makes no mistake from eight and a bit feet, with the weight of the United States on his shoulders and thousands of European eyes hoping he fluffs it.

The Americans win the hole and it means they're going down the last all square.

Justin Rose and Robert MacIntyre get Europe's first points on the board this afternoon, and they were talking to Sky Sports:

Bob MacIntyre: "It’s been brilliant. Today is everything I’ve dreamed of. I’ve worked hard for it. Yesterday, I felt I let Justin down a little bit but he stood up to the challenge, Today he was brilliant again and thankfully I helped him out."

Justin Rose: "I just knew there was a huge opportunity today. I felt like we got our noses in front and we went one up. There’s 20 minutes we’ve got to put our foot down and get a stranglehold of this match and that’s exactly what happened.

"They’re a very tough team to beat – I was barking at Bobby the last few holes. We did exactly what we needed to do and we were the strong pairing."

MacIntyre: "There’s a lot of nerves but you’ve got to embrace them. I’ve had them before – not of this magnitude but I knew what I needed to do. Trust what you do and having a guy like Justin to guide you is massive."

A lot of time being taken to line up this eight-footer.

Woah!! Incredible chip on to the 17th green from Rory McIlroy. This guy.

A smooth stroke ends with his ball hitting the green, bouncing twice up to the hole and then abruptly sticking on the brakes.

    That's a three.

Over to Patrick Cantlay for the two...

If Europe halve this hole then they cannot lose it.

Patrick Cantlay’s iron shot there was the signal for hundreds of fans to sprint off from the right of the 17th down to the 18th to get a decent vantage point. They clearly think this is going the distance.

Groans turn to cheers as Wyndham Clark follows suit and also misses the green.

Patrick Cantlay, the floor is yours.

    Invitation accepted.

Cantlay showed his minerals on this hole earlier today when he followed a remarkable tee-shot from Rahm with a similar stunner.

He's held his nerve again with a touch of class.
