Cantlay tugs his putt down the hill left of the hole.

So that means it is all or nothing for Clark. This for the half. A vital, precious half.

Silence around the 13th green. That won't last if he misses.

Here we go... solid stroke, nice line, good weight... all the way.

Now that is clutch from the American.

  2. Birdie for Fitzpatrickpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

McIlroy goes first and can't convert, so it's over to Fitzpatrick.

Can he rediscover that magic touch? Yes he can!

Fitzpatrick sends his ball south for a birdie two and that cranks up the pressure on his American opponents.

  3. Spieth off coursepublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    1UP Rose/MacIntyre v Thomas/Spieth (13)

Jordan Spieth is off the reservation with his tee shot on 14 - he's almost complaining about something as the ball skewers sideways off the face of his driver and the ball sails off to the right and over some fencing.

That looks like a reload to me.

For those who are follicly challenged, Sam Burns’ mane must be a thing of beauty.

He got a bit of grief for his mullet from a fan a few minutes back but there are others who clearly admire it and have the wig to prove it.

    Fleetwood/Hojgaard v Homa/Harman 3UP (15)

Nicolai Hojgaard has absolutely spanked that tee shot on the par-four 16th and it lands like an egg, a mere 10 feet from the flag. Genius.

Brian Harman is never going to be as long off the tee and he gives it full throttle but it doesn't quite reach, thudding into the rough.

His partner clears the green but it's too long and stuck out back.

A shot at an eagle two here for Europe.

    Fitzpatrick/McIlroy v Cantlay/Clark A/S (12)

Let's see what Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick have got in their lockers.

Both Europeans hit the green as well, but lengthy putts of about 30 feet and 20 feet await.

You feel one of these two putts need to drop with Clark lurking with intent.

    Fitzpatrick/McIlroy v Cantlay/Clark A/S (12)

So much riding on this final match.

If the Americans can burgle a win then it would be a heck of a shot in the arm going into tomorrow's singles.

Clark and Cantlay pepper the flag with their irons from the tee on the par-three 13th.

    Clutch.

The 16th has pretty much been jam-packed all week.

There's water to the right of the green on this hole, which is typically a 303-yard par four but down the left there are three hospitality areas within view, with one being a £1,300 per person Art Deco-style fine-dining restaurant.

So if you like your antipasti, and a choice of primi and secondi, followed by fine Italian cheeses and desserts, and obviously drinks, this is the place to be.

Alternatively, you can just sit on the grass bank for free and grab a sarnie.

    Fleetwood/Hojgaard v Homa/Harman 3UP (15)

We'd forgotten about Max Homa on 15, who last time we checked in was chunking away in the rough.

What a shot he's delivered there to hole out from 16 yards.

And boy is he fired up, yelling "I told you I could do it" and some other choice language, combined wiht a variety of finger jabbing. Not sure who that was aimed at.

Anyway, pressure back on Tommy Fleetwood who needs a five-footer to continue the game.

    He delivers. Onward.

  11. McIlroy clinches halfpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Fitzpatrick/McIlroy v Cantlay/Clark A/S (12)

This is for the hole then. Wyndham Clark goes left and stays left.

Another eagle chance disappears. Europeans sigh their relief.

McIlroy still has to hole out, though. No probs.

    Stays all square.

    Fitzpatrick/McIlroy v Cantlay/Clark A/S (11)

First up on the 12th green is McIlroy.

He races it down towards the hole but looks glum as his eagle attempt drifts past. He thinks he should be closer.

    Still all to play for...

  13. MacIntyre makes one!published at 15:58 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

Justin Rose misses down the hill from 10 feet for the win, and now it's down to Robert MacIntyre, again, is this his moment...

Yes it is! It's a stinky one down the hill but the Scotsman taps it in and Europe lead by two!

    Fitzpatrick/McIlroy v Cantlay/Clark A/S (11)

With the Americans out on the right, McIlroy and Fitzpatrick open up this gettable 12th by going down the left.

This is not much of a par five for these lads, to be honest.

Both Europeans hit the dancefloor, but they're a bit further out than Clark.

    Lots of birdie chances here.

    Fleetwood/Hojgaard v Homa/Harman 3UP (14)

Max Homa and Nicolai Hojgaard are fighting the rough and losing on the 15th.

Better news for Tommy Fleetwood who can club it onto the green, fully 65 feet from the pin.

Open champion Brian Harman leaves his approach short, but from 40 yards, he's a pretty decent scrambler.

    Fitzpatrick/McIlroy v Cantlay/Clark A/S (11)

Playing from the rough is not where Patrick Cantlay wants to be.

More so with the nearby punters chirping in his ear.

"Where's your cap, Patrick," is the thrust of the heckling.

Cantlay is short of the green on the 12th, but no such problem for his mate Wyndham Clark.

A lot of loft gets him over the tree and bounding up to the green. Tree-mendous.

    Fleetwood/Hojgaard v Homa/Harman 3UP (14)

Bit of a flay from this quartet with only Tommy Fleetwood able to find the fairway off the tee.

Losing the last hole has just asked a few questions of Brian Harman and Max Homa.

You really feel for Robert MacIntyre, who watches Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth miss with birdie efforts from around eight feet, and both on the same line he has from a foot nearer.

But it's just not happening on the greens for the Scotsman, who also misses and the agony is written all over his face as that was a huge chance to go two up.

Burns & Morikawa beat Hovland & Aberg 4&3

Sam Burns and Collin MorikawaImage source, Gettt

Victorious American duo Sam Burns and Collin Morikawa on Sky Sports:

Burns: "It feels great and was an awesome team effort today. It is so fun playing with a guy like Collin. Every time I play with him, I am more and more impressed. He is never out of a hole and every time I look he is heading right at the flag stick. I knew it would be tough, how the crowd would be. We just kept fighting and we are so glad to get a point.

"These guys are ready. We are all positive. We know what we are capable of. We know will be tough, a real challenge but we're excited for it."

Morikawa: "We know where we stand, what we've done so far and in the past three sessions. To start seeing reds on that first hole was very important and we have finally got a point on the board."

Now then... a rare hole which is not halved in this vital final match.

It goes the way of the Americans when Patrick Cantlay converts his birdie putt with Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick already out of the picture.

That's the first blob of red on this scorecard. What a time to earn it.
