Joe Loughlin is going well in second but can't get close enough to Cooper to make a challenge for the lead. Still a fair old way to go, mind you.

Lee Johnston outbreaks the chasing pack going into Metropole to move into third.

Glenn is in such a rich vein of form - he's been riding very well in the BSB and he seems to have come to terms with that bike. It's great to see the lap record demolished - the riders are relishing being back in road racing and they are just as excited as the crowd.

The first three quarters of the race was real good. I was closing up on the leaders but I lost it with two laps to go - trying to ride round here with no rear break and it's been an issue. The bike is fast enough to beat these guys but I have to find a bit in myself really.

Glenn Irwin says he's probably going to sit out of the superstock race in order to concentrate his efforts on the second superbike race this afternoon.

He becomes the first racer to win five straight superbike races at the North West. Anyone for six?

I had a couple of days testing on it and that's it, literally riding round an airfield. I didn't think I'd be quite up there, I knew I'd be strong in other classes. Awesome battle with Glenn, I think I got caught out with experience there but it was a really fun race; hats off to the team.

    Davey Todd, Superbike runner-up

    Quote Message

It's what I come here for. That is the hardest I've ever rode any bike round here. Fair play to Davey, when I saw anyone was on me I thought it would be Hickey. What a race, the pace was mental. You can go harder but it's a little bit more dangerous, Metropole was just BSB.

    Glenn Irwin, Superbike winner

That was another cracker - we're being treated today!

That will be a very popular win for Glenn Irwin, and it's five in a row on the Superbikes, but you have to feel for Davey Todd who has made it a hat-trick of second-place finishes.

  15. Postpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

Oh Davey Todd, two second-placed finishes in back-to-back sensational races. Magnificent racing from him but the win juuuuusst evading him so far.

Glenn Irwin though, how about that.

  16. IRWIN TAKES SUPERBIKE WINpublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

Dean Harrison's race appears to be over as well as he plummets down the leaderboard.

As the leading pair come through Ballysally Davey Todd remains right on the back wheel of Glenn Irwin.

Todd picks up a slipstream going into Magherboy and takes the lead!

Irwin comes right back at him though and takes a brilliant inside line through Metropole to nudge back in front, sensational altogether!

The last lap has started and it's Irwin with a 0.6 second lead over Davey Todd.

Josh Brooks meanwhile has made his way up to fourth.

Hickman pulls off at the exact same spot at University and his momentum is ruined.

  20. Postpublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

The Richard Cooper express seems to have stalled a bit as Irwin and Todd have expanded their gap to the rest of the field.

It's safe to assume Davey Todd is in excellent physical condition but even so, he must be utterly exhausted going in back-to-back thrillers.

Meanwhile Peter Hickman, whose chances of winning the race were dashed at University in the first lap, has just set the fastest lap and is up to sixth.
