  2. 'Gutted but what a race' - Toddpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

    Quote Message

It was an amazing last lap. I'm gutted not to get it, I tried so hard, maybe a bit too hard over Black Hill and he just got me, but a hell of a race.

    Davey Todd, Supertwin runner up

  3. 'A really fun race' - Johnstonpublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

It's not often you get two people to get away here. There was no need for us to be passing and slowing each other up, it was a really fun race to be part of and yeah I'm chuffed to bits. Two laps before I had a go there and I could see I was getting a good run off Black Hill but Davey went in a little too hot and I got in.

    Lee Johnston, Supertwin race winner

Wow, wow, wow! That was something else - like a chess match at 180mph!

It's Lee Johnston who comes out on top with just 0.079 seconds between them!

    Unbelievable!

    Wow. What a race.

Both racers were sensational there, Johnston's last lap strategy proved decisive in claiming his fifth win at the North West 200.

Lee Johnston takes the chequered flag!

Side by side down towards the Magheraboy chicane before Johnston goes around the outside but Todd comes all the way back.

This is relentless stuff, the amount of pressure on these two racers right now is immense. The slightest mistake will hand their opponent the advantage.

And there it is! Todd veers slightly off the racing line and allows Johnston through.

Here we go! A last-lap showdown between Johnston and Todd!

Both men are absolutely oooooon it!

  10. Postpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

Davey Todd leads from Lee Johnston as we begin the final lap.

Michael Dunlop's pursuit of joining the party at the top has stalled somewhat and it's now firmly a two-bike race to take the chequered flag.

James Hillier comes off his bike but thankfully is straight onto his feet - his race is done though.

Meanwhile at the top Davey Todd has caught up with Lee Johnston and retakes the lead coming up to Mathers using the raw speed of that Honda. This time he controls his entry into the chicane and the back-and-forth battle recommences.

  12. Postpublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

1.5 seconds between Dunlop and Todd, 1.4 between Todd and race leader Lee Johnston.

    Great battle.

  13. Postpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

Oh now! Davey Todd makes the first big mistake of the day as he comes into Mathers too hot and can't turn in time giving Johnston the opportunity to streak ahead.

Todd's straight line speed should see him close the gap, but he won't be able to afford another mistake like that. Dunlop is not fair behind the leading pair.

This is building up to a last-lap showdown - but watch out for Michael Dunlop!

He's in third but catching the leading pair and set the fastest lap the last time around!

Can he make it a three-way scrap for the win?

  15. Postpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

With Seeley out we'll be getting our third race winner of this year's North West.

Michael Dunlop has created daylight from the rest of the pack in third and has clocked the fastest lap once again, his sights are now firmly set on the two bikes ahead of him.

  16. Postpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

It looks like in fresh air the Honda of Todd has the edge on Johnston's BMW, but they remain neck and neck as Johnston screams out of black hill to move in front as they come onto the coast road.

Dunlop clocks the fastest lap, will we see a third competitor enter the fight for the race lead before it's over?

He certainly looks to be closing.

Alastair Seeley has pulled into the pits! There's no win #27 in this one!

Davey Todd and Lee Johnston are having some scrap out front - the two winners from 2019 are vying for glory three years later.

  20. Postpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 14 May 2022

Michael Dunlop has moved up to third just ahead of Dean Harrison and Alastair Seeley but it's Johnston and Todd in a two-way battle for top spot at the moment.
