An impressive marker laid down by Qingquan, who had failed to lift 135kg on his previous attempt. But it's on we go, the clean and jerk awaits.

Nepali 13-year-old Gaurika Singh is the youngest athlete at Rio - but she isn't just here to make up the numbers.

She won her heat in the women's 100 metres backstroke on Sunday, despite her dad admitting that "it wasn't in [their] plans" for her to be competing at an Olympics so soon.

"I’m in year 9 at school, our new year starts on September 6," she said.

"I first started swimming when I was in Scotland – my dad forced me to go. I got serious when I was nine, when I started to love swimming."

When she was nine. She's now 13. Competing at an Olympics.

"I won my heat and I’m really proud for my country," she added, with a grin that spoke of enthusiasm far greater than the words ever could.

Well, well, well. Fans of a shock are going to be happy with this result.

Serena and Venus Williams' hopes of a fourth straight Olympic gold in the women's doubles are over.

The American pair lost in straight sets to Czech Republic's Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova.

About time they let someone else have a crack. Although Venus apparently struggling with sickness is more likely to be to do with their surprise defeat.

    Mark Foster
Former freestyle world swimming champion on BBC TV

Adam Peaty's attitude is "it's just another two lengths". It's about "me, water and the wall" - he has supreme confidence. If he has a bad day then he can still win. None of the others look in any shape to push him.

He will win that Olympic gold and it's whether he breaks the world record. if you look back at what Peaty has done last few years - he won the 50m & 100m freestyle at the Commonwealths and Europeans.

Peaty keeps going faster. He just kicks differently than everybody else.

He became the first boxer to stop his opponent this Olympics, clubbing Ugandan veteran Kennedy Katende into submission in the third round after landing clean shots throughout.

"He was a tough guy, but my aim is to get anyone who’s in front of me out, to eliminate them," said Buatsi.
