    Women's road race

The lead group has crumbled and there are two women alone at the front of the race - the Netherlands' Annamiek van Vleuten  and American Mara Abbott.

There's a group of three riders further back and behind them is GB's Lizzie Armitstead - her gold medal hopes are fading, but they're not over just yet.

    15.7km to go.

Real concerns for Ellie Downie after she landed on her neck mid-floor routine here at the Rio Olympic Arena.

The 16-year-old was doing the routine she's done hundreds of times before but landed on her neck at the end of a front somersault.

She managed to get up and continue for a few steps but then decided to stop and has now been taken out of the arena.

A sad sight but, thankfully, she was able to walk, and hopefully she is not badly hurt and her Olympics can continue.

Great Britain's Rebecca Gallantree and Alicia Blagg are up against seriously tough competition in the women's synchronised 3m springboard final from 20:00 BST.

China's Wu Minxia is bidding to become the first diver to win five Olympic titles alongside partner He Zi.

But Gallantree and Blagg are the Commonwealth champions, and won European silver at the same venue where they came seventh at the London 2012 Games.

    Women's road race

Lizzie Armitstead is clinging on to the coat tails of the seven leaders. She's battling on this climb and knows that if she can keep the leaders in her sights she stands a chance on the final stretch to the finish.

Defending champion Marianne Vos has dropped further off.

    There's 20.5km to go.

Sir Clive Woodward rolls into the media room for lunch and he's clearly well absorbed in this sevens action.

He's passionate and energised as he questions some of the substitutions Australia made as they drew 12-12 with USA. Bar a missed conversion by the Americans, the draw would have looked very different.

Sir Clive says taking players off means Australia risked losing their momentum.

The draw is confirmed, they play Spain. GB meet Fiji which is tough. A win and they play New Zealand or USA in the semis.

Andy Murray 6-3 2-1 Viktor Troicki

Murray has an opportunity to break in the third game of the second set, snuffed out by Troicki. That’s deuce.

Troicki in charge of the point, Murray forced out wide – what a shot that is, the Scot finding an impossible angle to pass with the forehand, break point.

And break he does, forehand slice forcing the Serb out wide, and there’s nothing he can do to keep it in play.

We've got an Antipodean final on our hands. New Zealand's Natalie Rooney nails her first shot to eliminate American Corey Cogdell, and she will face Catherine Skinner for the gold.

Cogdell will take on Spain's Fatima Galvez in the bronze medal match.

We've just completed the heats of the men's 4x100m freestyle relay; with Russia and the United States the fastest qualifiers.

And that's your lot from the Olympic Aquatic Centre...for now at least.

The evening session gets going at 02:03 BST, with Britain's Adam Peaty going for gold in the men's 100m breaststroke at 02:53 BST.

Panick over, it seems. That breakaway group has found it tough going on the climb and the peloton have hauled them in. Well, a few members of the peloton anyway.

Lizzie Armitstead is one of the riders to have caught up the leaders and she looks in a decent position with 22km to go.

Australia's Catherine Skinner is the first competitor through to the gold medal shoot-off. She was a cut above the rest of the crowd, finishing with 14 from a possible 15 points.

London 2012 champion Jessica Rossi, however, will be going home without a medal after finishing in fifth place.

A rough session for GB's Joseph Clarke. He's missed a gate on his kayak slalom first run and that means he gets a 50-second penalty and is dead last.

Without the penalty he would have been top - although skipping a gate probably helped his recorded time.

He gets a second pop later though.

Andy Murray has won his first Olympic set since he clinched gold against Roger Federer in 2012.

Troicki broke the Scot in the first game of the match, but immediately gave the break back, after which Murray took charge of the set with the strength of his defence and the length of his ground strokes.

This morning's blue sky has been swallowed up by clouds the colour of cotton wool stained with the-night-before-last's eye make up. The flood lights are on, but this match has yet to light up.

The players are slugging it out in a half-empty stadium. "Let's go, Andy!" yells one lone spectator to silence. Perhaps everyone is saving themselves for Novak Djokovic's night match.
