As the medals are handed out it's wonderful to see how some Fijian fans have reacted to this moment in history for their country.

We have just been Facebook Live, external with fans and one looked close to tears, citing how much he and the players loved their nation.

I've not met a Briton with anything negative to say yet. Those on the Facebook live just conceded the better team won. And boy oh boy were they the better team out there. Physically they were monsters from the first whistle.

One fan tells me "Fiji own rugby sevens."

    GB win men's team sprint

Philip Hindes: "Nobody would have expected that gold but we always believed in each other. We stepped up as a team."

Jason Kenny: "I am really happy. We were outsiders but it was great to all come together and be on the right side of the close result.

"The Kiwis were really fast in the semi and to be honest I thought we were relying on them falling to bits, but they didn't and we still beat them."

Callum Skinner: "To come here as Olympic champion is incredible. It's not been an easy road, I've been to two world champs and was dropped from both of them."

But the real success came on the track, where the men's sprint team of Jason Kenny, Philip Hindes and Callum Skinner gave GB a third successive Olympic gold medal. 2008, 2012 and now 2016. It could be the start of a treble for Kenny, who also goes in the solo sprint and the keirin.

Five-time Olympic rowing champion on BBC TV

Katherine Grainger and Victoria Thornley have been together on and off for two years, and their mental strength has got them through the last few months. Everyone said that they would struggle to win a medal and they turned it around, what they did out there was very special indeed.

You always dream of giving your best performance in your last race. It was amazing. This is the best medal Kath has won. Because of the hard road she had to get there.

What she has done for the sport, for women's sport, is incredible. I am immensely proud of her.

GB silver medallist Victoria Thornley: "I believed I was capable of a medal and showing everyone on the biggest stage was something special. The first time I got in a boat I fell in.

"People said I had the capability to get to the Olympics, but rowing has changed my life completely."

'I can finally be proud of silver'published at 00:02 British Summer Time 12 August 2016

Silver medallist Katherine Grainger on BBC One: "It's hard to watch the race, that's the first time we've seen it and it's painful to be winning up until the last 300m. But there is nothing more we could have done, we put it on the line and put in the best performance we could have. I'm immensely proud of the silver.

"There was a long time when you would not have put money on us to win a medal. Some of the best crews in our event didn't even make the final. I can finally be happy with a silver. It was the best race we could have put out there."

For 40-year-old Grainger, a fifth medal at a fifth different Games saw her join with Kitty Godfree, a tennis players from the 1920s, with the most medals won by a GB woman at the Olympics.

London-born Fiji coach Ben Ryan: "It's amazing. You can't see I'm smiling - it probably stops me from crying. They saved the best until last. They played some staggeringly good stuff. We wanted to showcase the way Fijian sport can be played and wanted to put smiles on everyone's face.

"The entire population - towns and village - will be under siege in Fiji now.

"I consider what I do now, but Fiji sevens always knew I'd step away for a while now. But hey, I'll be the first Fiji sevens coach to not be sacked."

    Fiji beat GB to gold

Great Britain rugby sevens back Dan Bibby: "I have every single emotion right now. Unfortunately we didn't make it to gold but I'm so proud of all the boys and what the put into this was outstanding.

"We had 10 weeks to do this and I knew it would be a bloody tough challenge. We had umpteen meetings about having a gold-medal attitude. We've beaten the hell out of each other in training so it was nice to do it to other teams.

"I think the sport deserves to be here and it's here to stay. If it can inspire women and boys out there to be sevens players, that makes it for me. It's awesome."

    Murray/Watson 6-3 6-3 Navarro/Ferrer

Andy Murray and Heather Watson weren't supposed to be playing in the mixed doubles until a space opened up. Presumably a tannoy announcement went out across the Olympic Park for any pair with some racquets to report to Centre Court.

They went on to complete a 6-3 6-3 victory over Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro and David Ferrer.

However, Johanna Konta has had a bad day. She has lost her second game of the day, this time as she and Jamie Murray are beaten 6-4 6-3 to Americans Jack Sock and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
