    A round-up of today's main news...

Veteran rower Katherine Grainger became Britain's most decorated female Olympian as Team GB took their medal tally to 16.

After the British team earned six medals on day five, Thursday began in similar vein as Grainger and Victoria Thornley took double sculls silver.

GB also secured a medal in the inaugural men's rugby sevens competition after defeating South Africa in the semi-finals. Fiji now await in the final at 23:00 BST.

Great Britain's men's cycling sprint team are also certain of at least a silver after booking their place in the gold medal final against New Zealand (22:25 BST).

There was also a silver medal in the men's canoe double C2.

Britain's medal total eclipses the 15 won by the end of day six at London 2012.

When I was racing, some rivals from different teams would try to psych you out and ride past and stare you out. But I tried to focus straight ahead and if anyone did get in my line of vision I'd think that's great because they're worried about us.

But New Zealand will be thinking about themselves, as will the GB boys. It's just about getting themselves ready for potentially the biggest moment of their careers.

We're into the last rotation, with China's Chunsong Yang currently leading the way after a fine final bow on the uneven bars. American Simone Biles will be on the floor for her last performance, while Great Britain's Ellie Downie will end on the beam. She's currently in ninth place.

Outside the rugby sevens, Aubery - dad of GB player Dan Norton - tells me and Rob Vickerman he is happy now, a gold would be "the cherry on the cake."

He says he's not surprised with GB's performance despite the fact the squad only came together in May. "They know one another from playing each other and one man knows the other's strength," he adds.

"I didn't think they'd get this far," says Aubrey, a man who travels the world watching sevens. "I'm ok at the moment, for now that is, for now."

Callum Skinner, third and final man for Team GB,  needs to get all that lactic acid out and get on the rollers - just flush out all the toxins. It was another solid ride. It wasn't quite as fast as the Kiwis. It's going to be a great final.

I think GB have a little bit more - I think New Zealand are on their limit.

It's that time again - Dance Cam! The lady to the left of me is singing along (beautiful voice) and the majority of fans are joining in too. I'm unfamiliar with the tune. An uptempo Brazilian number. It's more of a sing-along than a dance-along, to be honest, but spectators seem to be enjoying themselves.

A group of Americans in one of the hospitality suites are on their feet - Stars and Stripes flags being waved. They will probably have a gold medal to celebrate soon too.

That's a fantastic ride. GB were ever so slightly off the pace of New Zealand but they're very much in the hunt. If you told them they would break the Olympic record (since broken by NZ) and be in the final they would have taken that.

Jason Kenny's form bodes well for the sprint and keirin but Callum Skinner needs the biggest pat on the back - he's the one that has really upped his game.
