Peter Beaumont wears a brave face after the GB men's quad finished fifth in their final, with his son, Jack, a late call-up to replace the ill Graeme Thomas.

"I'm disappointed that they didn't get a medal," he says. "But this time last year Jack broke his back, so I'm sure that we'll reflect with pride once the dust has settled."

Former Olympian Peter joked that he still had "bragging rights" in the family after he finished fourth in the men's eight crew in the 1988 Seoul Games, but adds: "He's already achieved more in his career than I did, and he's only 22."

Brace yourself for some whiffy James Bond puns on the television coverage.

"No, Mr Bond I expect you to win." "The man with the golden oar." That is the standard that we are talking about.

The reason? New Zealanders Hamish Bond and Eric Murray are about to row for men's pairs gold.

Unbeaten in the class since way back in 2009, they are red-hot favourites.

Great Britain's Alan Sinclair and Stewart Innes will hope to get involved in the scrap for scrapes.
