Heptathlon (Long jump starts at 15:45 BST)
Team GB's other heptathlon medal contender Katarina Johnson-Thompson had led going into the evening session, only for a disastrous shot put of 11.68m to drop her back.
KJT as she is affectionately known (and it takes a while to say her full name), broke the British record in the high jump 1.98m in a brilliant competition with Belgium's Nafi Thiam.
The Brit now sits in fourth but is expected to do well in the long jump later on Saturday. (15:45 BST)

Let's catch you up on a bit of Friday night's action in track and field...
British reigning Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill is on course to retain her title after four events in the heptathlon.
She has 4057 points - 72 ahead of second place Belgium's emerging star Nafi Thiam .
Four years ago, Ennis-Hill was 184 points ahead going into the second day, while at the World Championships a year ago she held an overnight lead of 80 over compatriot Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
Athletics: Men's 10,000m (01:25 BST, Sunday)
Will we be seeing more scenes like this tonight?
Watch a clip from London 2012 of BBC athletics pundits Colin Jackson, Denise Lewis and Michael Johnson going wild for Mo Farah's 10,000m victory to take the gold medal.
The race gets going at 01:25 BST on Sunday.

Fran: I was at a wedding of my dad's friend that night. We kept up to date on the action via dodgy phone signal!
Ashley England: Gamesmakering, doing ticketing at the stadium bridges - we took turns going in to watch the events!
Harriett Timms: my sister and I watched on TV. Screamed ourselves hoarse. What memories. Everything crossed for a repeat.
Where were you when Ennis, Farah and Rutherford all won gold on Super Saturday? Let us know via #bbcrio2016.
Shot put
How awesome is Michelle Carter?
The 30-year-old won a stunning Olympic shot put gold on Friday and did it with some added sass.
Carter etched her name in the history books with a last-gasp throw to become the first American to win in the event since 1960.
Now she wants to change the perception of her sport and the strong women who compete in it.
"I'm in a sport where people don't look at us like women, they don't look at us like being girls, or feminine," said Carter, who is a qualified make-up artist and has a fashion line called Shot Diva.
"But I've been girly all my life and so I couldn't separate... between the sport and being a woman. I love hair, I love make-up, I love fashion and I love throwing the shot put."
All hail internet search engines.
Trampolining
Andy on Twitter says: "Since 7am this morning the 2 kids next door have been on their trampoline, one to the other 'you can win a gold medal at this'."
Keep bouncing, kids! It could be you one day...
Trampolining
Hands up if one of your favourite moments of the Games was Bryony Page winning silver on the trampoline?
The 25-year-old broke down in tears as she became the first British woman to win an Olympic medal in the event on Friday.
Her younger brother Marcus also got a bit teary talking about her achievements on BBC Breakfast.
"It was phenomenal. She did everything right and it went so well for her," he said.
"Every time I see it (her interview) I'm close to tears, it's just incredible.
"It's just been about training, training, making sure she eats the rights things and a bit more training for her. I can't believe she did it along with her degree. It shows how hard she dedicates herself to everything.
"She's a high achiever in absolutely everything, annoyingly so. She has a first-class biology degree and is a grade eight in the flute."

Joanna Semlyen: I was there on #SuperSaturday, external in London. It was extraordinary. And at moments, overwhelming (I had to pop out briefly to breathe!)
SJ Richards: I was watching possibly the worst game of football ever at the Millennium Stadium. GB v S Korea.
Jane Preston: I'd finished my Gamesmaker shift at Royal Horseguards Parade and was glued in front of the TV yelling at it like a lunatic!
How about this for some special access? Six-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy takes us on a selfie stick tour of the Olympic velodrome track centre just an hour before the action kicks off...
Olympic Football
The hosts are still on course to secure two gold medals in the Olympic football tournaments.
Goalkeeper Barbara saved the decisive penalty as Brazil beat Australia 7-6 in a shootout to move into the semi-finals.
Brazil legend Marta was the only one to miss a spot-kick for the hosts, but her side were still able to progress to face Sweden.
Canada will face Germany in the other last-four tie.
Olympic Football
USA's goalkeeper Hope Solo had some strong words after her team were eliminated from the women's football.
Solo said they were knocked out by a "bunch of cowards" after losing to Sweden on penalties in the quarter-final.
It is the first time the defending champions have failed to reach the semi-finals of a major tournament.
"The best team did not win today," said Solo.
"I'm very proud of this team but I also think we played a bunch of cowards. They didn't want to open the game.
"They tried to counter with long balls. I don't think they're going to make it far in the tournament. I think it was very cowardly. They're moving on and we're going home."
Awkwardly, Sweden's coach Pia Sundhage coached the US team to gold medals at the Beijing and London Olympics.
"It's OK to be a coward if you win," she said. Touche.
Equestrian
Charlotte Dujardin celebrated her silver in the dressage team event by sticking the medal around lovely Valegro's ears.
I reckon the horse cares more about the edible treats on offer (welcome to my world).
