    Archery - Recurve mixed team

There's no joy for British archers Patrick Huston and Sarah Bettles in the quarter-finals of the mixed team event after they lost 6-0 to Mexico.

The pair had beaten fifth seeds China to reach the last eight but second seeds Alejandra Valencia and Luis Alvarez proved too strong.

Huston and Bettles will now have to focus on the individual events.

    Men's doubles

Not to be for GB duo Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in their opening match.

They've gone down 21-15 21-11 to Indonesian top seeds Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon.

It's a round-robin format, so they could still progress.

It's not a good sign after his crash, I think his day has not been a happy one so far...

If you want to discover your new favourite sport, get your chops around 3x3 basketball, which is appearing in the Olympics for the first time. Right now on the Red Button and at the top of this page is Latvia v Poland.

As you'd guess, three-a-side, on half a court. Trust me, it's brilliant.

33 degrees is the temperature out there now... and humid.

It's the humidity that is the killer. That's the one that is making everybody uncomfortable - and it's going to play a part in who wins this race.

Who can cope with the heat?

  8. 'Can't predict cycling anymore'published at 06:18 British Summer Time 24 July 2021

    Men's road race

GB endurance coach Matt Brammeier, speaking to BBC Sport: "We've been preparing well. We've been preparing for months for this now. We are ready as we can be.

"I think the race will be won or lost on the final climb. It'll open a little bit earlier, in my opinion, but it's all about who has got the most gas left for the top of that final climb.

"We have riders that understand tactics and know how to race. It just comes down to racing intuition and what's going on around you."

Riders now are taking on some much-needed lunch.

This is a chaotic scene but it always seems to work.

Everyone trying to look out for their musette and helper at the same time - and grab the bag - without it getting tangled up in someone else's wheels, so that they don't all end up in a heap on the floor.

Somehow, they seem to manage it!

The shake of his head and puff of his cheeks said it all for Geraint Thomas.

It's the third major race in a row in which a crash has affected him.

The Giro d'Italia last autumn, at the Tour de France just over three weeks ago and now the Olympic Games.

Not to mention the crash that cost him a medal chance at Rio 2016.

At least he is able to ride on today.

The roads are wet again here, the nature of the terrain.

You can see it in the air. Little bits of rain, very isolated.

Possibly quite welcome though to get some spray off the road at the moment.
