Chelsie Giles took the first of those medals, a bronze in the judo, while it was Bradly Sinden who collected the second - his taekwondo silver was so close to turning gold, but it wasn't quite to be for the 22-year-old from Doncaster. Here's how his men's -68kg final unfolded.

So with their first two medals in Tokyo coming on Sunday, how do Team GB stand on the Olympic medal table? There's still a long way to go...

Bradly Sinden can hold his head high because he gave us some thrills today when he entered the mat.

He walked through people, he came back, changed styles and showed variety. It's been an absolute delight and honour to be watching this kid all day.

We'll get him in Paris and in LA but guess what, he'll also get Rashitov.

A word from Sheryl Sinden, Bradly's mum, who was watching from home: "We can't believe he has got a silver medal, it's a massive achievement but I know he went for gold so I know how disappointed he is going to be. We are so proud of what you have achieved, don't be hard on yourself!"

More from Bradly Sinden, speaking to BBC TV on his feelings after taking silver: "Disappointment, it was my gold medal to give away, obviously he is a good fighter, just I made a few mistakes. I think I got unlucky with a few things as well but that is taekwondo."

Rashitov finished it like the 19-year-old brazen, brash kid he is.

He fought five times today. He beat the number one in the world, he beat the number two in the world and he's an Olympic champion at 19.

In any sport being an Olympic champion at 19 we bow our heads.

Here is Bradly Sinden after his silver medal: "I thought he was on the back foot, you have to commend him for what he did - a few mistakes from me, well done to him, you'll see me again in Paris.

"Maybe eventually (he'll be proud) but we were here to get gold, anything else is not what we're here to celebrate - maybe eventually I will get over it, but for now it has got me that I didn't win gold when I think it was there for me to take. I will take that and improve on it."

It was 20 seconds of mayhem and confusion, it looked like Sinden was occupied and was not sure what was happening.

He just took his eye off the prize and panicked a little bit and I'm going to use that word nicely.

He just lost a bit of concentration and Rashitov who I thought with 30 seconds to go was finished.

That was high quality, high drama.

I can empathise with him, we all thought he had won it right at the end. It was so close, a hotly contested match but Bradly has represented himself and his country very well today. He should stand tall and stand proud.

Superb performance from Uzbekistan's Ulugbek Rashitov. Bradly Sinden may not feel like it now, but he should look back on his efforts today with pride - the 22-year-old from Doncaster eventually went down 34-29 in the final seconds of the gold medal match. So close...

It's not to be for Bradly Sinden! The 19-year-old Ulugbek Rashitov holds off the Great Britain hopeful to take gold and Sinden finishes with the silver medal.

Carolyne Daykin: Seriously invested in the taekwondo. Come on Bradley Sinden!

Georgie Heath: I have absolutely zero idea about taekwondo but this is so gripping. Come on Bradley!

This gold medal match swings in Bradly Sinden's favour once more! But who could call this? He leads 28-26 with seconds remaining...

And here comes Bradly Sinden! "Don't look at the scoreboards!" is the cry from his coach.

The Brit leads by three points but Ulugbek Rashitov responds with a spinning kick to the trunk and edges back into a 26-24 lead with 40 second to go.

What does Bradly Sinden have left in his locker? He closes the gap to just two points to set up a tense finish before Ulugbek Rashitov lands a punch, but here comes Sinden with his own combination and the British fighter pulls level. 19-19. Will it count? Uzbekistan play their card to have a video replay but it's not successful. All square with 80 seconds to go.
