Psychologically, it would have been hard for the GB women after losing to Germany in their opening game having played well, and going one down here.

But they kept grinding it out and they started to flow and by the end they looked more like themselves which is good going into their third game.

Are we settling on Magic Monday? Medal Monday possibly in the mix too?

  7. How does 'Magic Monday' compare?published at 12:10 British Summer Time 26 July 2021

    Simon Gleave
    Head of sports analysis, Gracenote

Great Britain's three gold medals on day three of Tokyo 2020 means that Team GB has had at least one day with three or more golds at five successive Summer Olympics.

Prior to Athens 2004, Great Britain had won three golds or more in a day at only the 1908 and 1920 Olympics.

London 2012’s ‘Super Saturday’ on 4 August saw six gold medals won – and remains the best single day of a summer Games since 1908.

Britain has won at least four gold medals on 12 separate days in Olympic history – so ‘Magic Monday’ remains outside the top 10, for now…
