Freya Anderson, who failed to make the women's 100m freestyle final, speaking to BBC Sport: "I feel OK.

"I'm trying to not let this set me back more. Just thinking about the year that I have, I've really not had a good run in.

"I think, maybe this was meant to happen for a reason? Looking back, I've probably only got in about six weeks of proper training, I had illnesses leading up to this. I'm just happy I got to come and experience this really.

"Next year is very busy, so hopefully I can get my head down in training and get a good block in."

Straka leads, Casey in contention, McIlroy & Fleetwood under waypublished at 03:24 British Summer Time 29 July 2021

    Straka -7 (16)

    Sepp StrakaImage source, Getty Images

If you say you predicted Sepp Straka would be setting the pace in the first round of the men's golf, then we don't believe you.

The 28-year-old Austrian, who is ranked 161st in the world and only made the cut in two majors, is seven under after 16 holes at the Kasumigaseki Country Club.

Straka has a three-shot lead over Belgium's Thomas Pieters and Denmark's Joachim Hansen.

Home favourite Hideki Matsuyama - the Masters champion, of course - is three under, as is Great Britain's Paul Casey.

Fellow Brit Tommy Fleetwood has just started his round, but is already one over after a bogey on the first.

Better news for Ireland's Rory McIlroy, though. The four-time major winner is one under after three holes, with playing partner Collin Morikawa - who won the Open last week - still level.

Greenbank impresses to reach the finalpublished at 03:20 British Summer Time 29 July 2021

    Men’s 200m backstroke

Oh hello. Britain’s 2019 World Championship bronze medallist Luke Greenbank is through to the final with a world-class swim. The 23-year-old finished ahead of defending champion Ryan Murphy of the USA to win that race.

World champion Evgeny Rylov of the Russian Olympic Committee set the quickest time overall in the first semi-final, which saw Brodie Williams' hopes go up in smoke.

Still a good first Olympics for the 22-year-old.

  16. 'I’m more than my accomplishments and gymnastics' - Bilespublished at 03:14 British Summer Time 29 July 2021

Simone Biles has had quite a lot to deal with over the last few days.

The four-time Olympic gold medallist, multiple world champion and arguably the greatest gymnast of all time - withdrew from the team and all-around events at the Tokyo Olympics, which was headline news across the US and the world.

The American, who is a sexual assault survivor, spoke about the importance of preserving her mental health and the need to "protect our minds and our bodies," adding: "We are people, at the end of the day."

And she has taken to Twitter, external to thank those who have sent her words of support and encouragement.

"I said throughout that it was always going to be that race. It wasn't quite there. The result, it is what it is.

"It is hard. The way I swim, it's got to be. perfect balancing act. If I'm off ever so slightly, it really pays in a bad way. It's something that I really enjoy doing - for balance - but it hasn't really paid off this Games, unfortunately."
