'Rachel Daly can help stop the threat of Sam Kerr'published at 10:11 British Summer Time 30 July 2021

    Team GB 0-0 Australia

    Karen Carney
Former England and GB international on BBC Radio 5 Live

The shape of Australia, they play with a 3-4-3 and they will try to overload you down the sides. I think Rachel Daly is athletic and defensively solid to try and nullify that.

She can help stop the crosses coming into the box that will help stop the threat of Sam Kerr.

Equally she can run you the other way, I don't think she has the natural attacking presence of a Nikita Parris or Fran Kirby but a very, very solid player.

    Men's tennis semi-finals

Novak Djokovic ain't going to have this all his own way.

Germany's Alexander Zverev is now in his stride after losing the first set 6-1 and has just broken the Serb in the second.

He'll now serve to level things up. This would be the first set the world number one has lost in Tokyo.

Kerr has three goals already. That is the big threat GB have to defend against and they need to keep her quiet.

Internally in the camp they have a real strong belief and they are very confident going into this game.

It is history in the making for these women.

You can't underestimate Australia, they have got better and better and better the Matildas. They currently have eight players who play in the WSL so they will be well known to the GB players.

It will be a tactical battle for Hege Riiise, I think it will be a cautious start and by the end it will be full on war.

The 27-year-old swimmer said he was disappointed he could not reward her sacrifices for him with an Olympic medal.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, James’ mum Fiona said his words made her cry.

“I do have a close relationship with him, but I didn’t realise it meant so much to him”, she said.

“Am I disappointed with sixth? Absolutely not. I’m super, super proud of him… he’s made two Olympic finals, what more could you ask for?”

    Women's final

Olympic gold medallist Bethany Shriever's mum Kate Shriever on BBC Radio 5 Live: "To win gold is just a dream come true. I think it being quick is quite good, the risks are quite high. We are nervous for her safety, we just want her to get round without coming off.

"It was emotional, there was not a dry eye in the house."

"She literally put everything into it, she knew there was someone behind her. She gave it absolutely everything she had.

"I think it was all worth it when she got the letter to say she was going to the Olympics. Anything after that was a bonus, she just wanted to race and enjoy the experience. She has loved every minute of it. We all knew no matter what the outcome was we would be 100% proud of her.

"The only time [she needed pushing] was after she broke her tibia and fibula twice. Her first session back after the first break, she landed a jump and on impact the metal rod in her leg bent and shattered her leg again.

"A lot of people had written off her at that point, she was a really good rider but to break her leg twice and be out of the game for about 18 months, but she was determined afterwards.

"Although she is the only female on team GB for British BMX the support she has from Kye is just a lovely thing. She has been so happy the last couple of weeks and the whole experience has been so amazing for her.

Boxing Olympic gold medallist on BBC TV

Boxing always contributes a lot of medals to Team GB - they're a real force the set-up that they have, the EIS in Sheffield is unbelievable.

I've seen Caroline Dubois on the pads and training, she hasn't had that many fights, but she's only lost one. There's a lot of talent to come and a lot more medals to come from Team GB.

Boxing is probably one of the hardest sports to actually qualify for the Olympics.
