Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

Pat McCormack could not come back from that knockdown. It was a great effort but he's come up short. McCormack got it right in the first round but to get dropped by a brilliant counter in the second it was an uphill struggle. You could see from Pat's eyes they were blurry so he did well to hang in there. He will go away with a silver but he won't be a happy boy.

On the track, it proved a little worse. But good enough.

The Briton takes the fourth and final automatic spot for semi-final qualification, coming in behind Jamaica's Ronald Levy, Switzerland's Jason Joseph and Hungary's Valdo Szucs (only by four thousandths of a second) in the first heat.

Pozzi's time of 13.50 seconds was a little sub par from a man who has clocked 13.25 this year and has a personal best of 13.14,

    Men's parallel bars final

    BBC One

Team GB gymnast Joe Fraser on BBC One: "I was slightly disappointed today, it was such a tight final anyway. When I did go to that one rail and I didn't do my skill out of it, I lowered my start value by five tenths. So I tried to repeat it and I still wasn't able to complete it.

"Today wasn't my day and that is okay, being on the floor with such amazing athletes. The top eight in the world, is incredible. I know today wasn't my day but hopefully, I can get back in the gym and will improve that in the future.

"Becoming an Olympian has been a whirlwind of a journey, I am proud of everyone involved, my parents, my girlfriend, my coach, my friends.

"Everyone has been involved to get me into the position I am in today, and I am just honestly, grateful to have everyone around me that I do, so thank you to everyone.

"I am so excited about the future, I know as soon as I get back in the gym, there are lots of things I want to do.

"Every time I come to a major event it is so inspiring, seeing some of the elements that these guys are doing. I want to do that and I want everyone in the team to do that, so we are definitely going to get into the gym work as hard as we can because we know we can do a lot."
