Lack of GB dominance 'good for sport'published at 10:26 British Summer Time 3 August 2021

GB silver medals - women's team pursuit & men's team sprint

    Victoria Pendleton
Olympic cycling gold medalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

The opponents today have put in spectacular performances, when you have given it your very best and it isn't quite enough on the day then you have to go home knowing there was nothing more you could do.

It has to go one way or the other, and unfortunately you have to pick up a couple of silver medals.

I think it is good for the sport that we haven't had supreme dominance.

Ryan Owens: "It's a dream come true. This team has got a pretty good track record. It is a lot to live up to but we have given it everything. We came and meant business. We got our best out on the day, you saw we gave our best in the first round and it hurt us a bit in the final."

Jack Carlin: "Obviously we came for more but we can be proud of ourselves. We got the Olympic record before the Dutch took it off us. We are happy but you expect more don't you?"

Jason Kenny: "It was really good. We poured our heart in the second ride to get into the final and then rolled the dice.

"We knew we had ground to make up and I just had nothing in the final. I was rubbish but we tried so hard to get there. "It's really special. Every time you come back it gets harder."
