    Men's individual sprint

    Chris Boardman

We didn't see all the shots on this one camera but obviously Carlin came up the track and forced Dmitriev wide.

I think it was tactically well-ridden and well raced.

Jack Carlin goes one up in the bronze-medal race, easing past Russian Denis Dmitriev to edge ahead in the best-of-three tussle. Strong start. One more win and he's on the podium...

Full reaction from the gold-medal winners to come, but next up is Jack Carlin going for bronze in the men's sprint.

Coming thick and fast in the velodrome today.

Well, that was just such a complete performance from Great Britain that even after the first few laps it never felt in doubt.

The quads will be burning, the lungs screaming and the adrenaline screeching through their bodies but Laura Kenny and Katie Archibald made it look effortless. Unbelievable.

    Olympic champions.

    Women's madison

    Sir Chris Hoy
Six-time Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

Even for an event as unpredictable as the madison it was the most wonderfully boring team madison I've ever seen - the most assured confident race I've ever seen at this level - it was outstanding.

They went out and dominated form the word go to win the first sprint - they won by three or four bike lengths every time - they had speed, tactics and complete control. All their rivals were fighting for silver or bronze early on. They took that race by the scruff of the neck.

10 sprints out of 12 is unheard of! It was stunning and it stunned the riders in the race that there was nothing they could do to get on terms there.

The other podium finishers knew it would come down to that last sprint.

Gold Medal for Team GBpublished at 09:51 British Summer Time 6 August 2021

    Women's madison

A sensational Olympic gold for Laura Kenny and Katie Archibald!

They have absolutely demolished the field and dominated the women's madison on its Games debut with a huge 78 points, with Denmark taking silver on 35 and the Russian Olympic Committee in bronze on 26.

And it means Laura Kenny becomes the first British woman to win gold medals at three Olympics! What a truly remarkable competitor.

    Job done for Tom Daley.

He's got better and better through the rounds and moves up to fourth, with a solid back 3½ somersaults giving him a score of 453.70 overall.

He's safely into Saturday's semi-finals, with the final taking place later that day.

They have had a glorious race - haven't needed to attack haven't needed to defend really. They will just stay at the front, lead at their leisure and just tick the laps down.

Almost disbelief as GB don't win a sprint. That's how dominating they have been. Denmark take it to close the gap slightly to 33 points but Kenny and Archibald can even afford to lose a lap and still be ahead here. They're on the road to gold with five laps to go.

Gold on the cards?published at 09:48 British Summer Time 6 August 2021

    Women's madison

Wow, Great Britain now have more than double the points of their closest rivals - Laura Kenny and Katie Archibald have racked up 67 to Denmark's 32 after both take a lap and are joined by the Russian Olympic Committee. Surely gold is on the cards...

GB dominating in madisonpublished at 09:46 British Summer Time 6 August 2021

    Women's madison

It's been a momentous effort from Katie Archibald, she's been the main sprinter for Team GB but this time as the bell goes she drags in team-mate Laura Kenny.

Remarkably, Kenny storms to another set of maximum points - that's nine of 10!

    Sixteen laps to go...

'Sensational from GB'published at 09:44 British Summer Time 6 August 2021

    Women's madison

    Chris Boardman
Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

This is sensational from Team GB and the laps are ticking by - nine sprints and they've lost one. It is a masterclass at the moment and they've got themselves in a position now where they just have to follow.

They could even afford to lose a lap here, Katie Archibald is working hard and she'll do the bulk of the work but Laura Kenny still looks in great shape so there's definitely something in the tank if they need to react to something.

The golden rule in madison is when there's a change happening you go round the outside and unfortunately the Australian went through the middle so the Netherlands and Belgium missed out on the points and GB take the lead. If GB take control now they can just react, they don't have to animate the race it's up to everyone else to stop them.
