    Netherlands 1-0 Argentina

The Netherlands have broken the deadlock in this women's hockey gold medal match.

It's a lovely drag flick from the penalty corner by Frederique Matla, but Margot van Geffen gets a touch to find the bottom left corner.

    Can Argentina respond?

What is the laser run?published at 11:29 British Summer Time 6 August 2021

    Women's modern pentathlon

Great Britain have fared well in the women's modern pentathlon historically, winning a medal at every Games since the sport's introduction in 2000 - other than Rio 2016.

Kate French's hopes of continuing that proud record rest on the final event of the modern pentathlon, the laser run.

It's a combined run and shoot - a 3,200m run mixed with four visits to the shooting range.

The athlete with the most points going into the laser run starts first, with the remaining athletes starting with time handicaps – one second for every point they’re adrift of the leader.

That means French, currently fifth, starts 15 seconds behind leader Uliana Batashova and just four behind Hungary's Sarolta Kovacs, who sits in the bronze medal position.

    Women's modern pentathlon

That fine ride in the equestrian event has really helped Kate French's medal prospects in the modern pentathlon.

Four events down and she's up to fifth place, helped by a couple of nightmare rides from rivals, most notably German Annika Schleu, who started the show jumping in the gold medal spot but has plummeted to 31st after failing to complete her round on a horse, Saint Boy, that just was not having it. Sinner Boy he should be renamed.

The final event - the laser run, a combined running and shooting discipline - starts at 11:30 BST. Can French add another medal to the GB haul?

She's four points off the medal places on 805. Uliana Batashova, of the Russian Olympic Committee, leads the way on 820.

    Women's modern pentathlon

    Well done, Kate French.

No penalties for the Brit on the equestrian hurdles - just six time points lost for going six seconds over the allotted time limit.

A tally of 294 out of 300 - the fourth best round as it stands and that should move her up the rankings from eighth, further towards the medals with just the combined shooting/running laser run to come.
