But it was a contrasting experience for Annika Schleu, whose face says it all.

The German was drawn to ride Saint Boy in the show jumping leg of the modern pentathlon but the horse turned out to be a bit of a sinner and refused obstacles.

Schleu had led the modern pentathlon going into the show jumping, but ended it out of the competition all together.... hence the tears.

    FT: Netherlands 3-1 Argentina

And that's that - the Netherlands women regain the gold medal they won in London in 2012 and make it four Olympic titles.

It was a bit of a stroll in the end for the Dutch and Argentina missed the chance to win their first ever gold medal in the women's game.

The Netherlands scored three out of five of their penalty corners and, despite a consolation goal for Argentina at the end of the second-half, their experience shone through and they dominated that final.

    Nick Hope
BBC Sport Olympics reporter in Tokyo

When Kate French hits the tournament - she is a superhero.

It's difficult as the athletes are constantly having to change and adapt their training with the sport modernising, and that's what Kate has been able to do.

She has continued to fight the odds, get stronger, and we knew from the World Cup that she had every chance.

You can be strong at all the disciplines but then it is just chance in the show-jumping so can you be the horse-whisperer you need to be? It's where anything can happen. You have to have the ability to calm your horse, even speaking to the horse in the language of the country that they are based!
