'I love the competition when it counts'published at 08:59 British Summer Time 7 August 2021

    Men's 10m platform final

    Team GB

Here's what Tom Daley had to say after winning the bronze medal in the men's 10m platform final:

"I am so happy this Olympics has gone the way it has. I feel I am a different athlete and to finally get here, I always dreamed I would but if someone told me I was going to win a gold and a bronze I would have laughed in their faces!

"Although I’m the one standing on the podium there’s so many people behind me. I’m so overwhelmed with the love and support back home."

On how it feels to win a second medal:

"The actual difficult thing with the individual is you have a preliminary and a semi-final to survive and once you get in the final - I love the competition when it counts.

"I fought all the way through and extremely happy to come away with the bronze."

What does the future hold for Tom Daley?

"I’m going to take a bit of a break from diving. I am feeling better, doing better and my body’s doing good, so … we’ll see."

This is much better from Jason Kenny. Streaks away from the field and a great ride from him when he needed it most. He was in the last chance saloon and he was a completely different rider there and dominated in a class field.

He wins the repechage and is safely through to the quarter-final.

    Men's keirin

That's why he is a six-time gold medallist!

Jason Kenny dominates against a classy field and is safely though. More like it from the 34-year-old.

Kenny was boxed in fourth at one stage, but came through strongly on the inside before taking Germany's Stefan Boetticher on the bell.

From there, there was only one winner.

The British great is about to go in the men's keirin repechage. It is his last chance to defend the only Olympic title which he still holds.

Two of the five riders go through.

The adjudicators have had another good look at the incident involving Jack Carlin earlier, when Canada's Hugo Barrette went down after clipping the Briton.

BBC commentator Simon Brotherton describes the process as going to the "cycling equivalent of VAR".

    Decision stands!

    Men's modern pentathlon

GB's Joe Choong is leading the modern pentathlon after a fantastic winning fencing round last night and swim this morning.

Jamie Cooke is in the top 10 heading into the final two events of equestrian and laser run.

In modern pentathlon, competitors score points in the first three events, which decide their starting position for the final laser run event, composed of the shooting and running disciplines. The first athlete over the line wins the gold medal.

There's a real possibility of GB medals in the men's modern pentathlon this morning after Kate French's gold in the women's event yesterday!

    Chris Mears
2016 Olympic diving gold medallist on BBC TV

It really has been an incredible Olympics for Tom Daley. He's got a different perspective on life and it looks like he's enjoying himself.

The relief of winning the gold is huge - it's his fourth Olympics but maybe there will be fire in the belly for another go. It's not four years away... it's only three!

You do a dive, good or bad, and you have to move on to the next one. After the setback of the last round, he comes back in the fifth dive. He's very good at putting himself in his competition zone.

Carlin through to semi-finals after nervy waitpublished at 08:26 British Summer Time 7 August 2021

    Men's keirin

The man on the derny looks like a tourist on a hire bike as he sets off at a gentle pace.

Team GB's Jack Carlin sits in second place, backing off as the derny disappears. Two to go through...

We're down to three! Canada's Hugo Barrette goes down. Is it Carlin's fault? Hmmm. It's a nervy one.

Chris Boardman on BBC comms isn't sure. The Scot crosses the line first but could he be held accountable?

No! The result stands and Carlin is through to the men's semi-finals which take place tomorrow.

It's bronze for Tom Daley - he takes his second medal - and he and Matty Lee spoiled the party of a Chinese clean sweep across all the diving disciplines.
