Ben Flower's red card and subsequent six-month suspension dominated the aftermath of last season's Grand Final.

The Wigan prop was sent off after two minutes for punching St Helens half-back Lance Hohaia twice, and the Warriors went on to lose 14-6.

Flower returned to action in April and has been a key figure in their run to the Grand Final, including a try-scoring contribution in their semi-final win over Huddersfield.

Last year was a moral victory for us. With 12 men for 78 minutes, it was a great effort from us. I just want us to finish this game off with 13 men and I want Leeds to see the best of us. If we do that we've got a great chance of lifting the trophy.

As the team line-ups were being read out, the greatest cheer was reserved for Ben Flower.

The Wigan Warriors prop was sent off in disgrace in the early minutes of last season's decider at Old Trafford against St Helens. Wigan went on to lose, despite their stoic efforts with a man down.

It seems the Warriors faithful are hoping for a fairytale today, for someone who was public enemy number one in the rugby league world 12 months ago.

Brian McDermott has a slight advantage, having won both of his previous two Grand Finals compared to Wane's one success.

McDermott's Rhinos beat St Helens in 2011 and then Warrington a year later.

Warrington were beaten finalists again in 2013, defeated by Wane's Warriors, who lost to Saints 12 months ago.

Wigan looked really sharp last week. My heart's saying Leeds for all the right reasons, for those great iconic people, but my head's saying that they're going to have to be good to beat that Wigan team today.

Leeds flags were waving on the gridlocked M62, while Wigan supporters jammed shoulder-to-shoulder with the England rugby union faithful and hoards of Rhinos revellers on the Manchester Metrolink.

The walk up Sir Alex Ferguson Way is awash with colours of both these Super League Grand Final combatants, and the chippies are either a solid block of blue and amber or red and white. Those who eat together, win together it seems.

A great buzz and atmosphere is building here at Old Trafford.

Leeds should have lost to Huddersfield and they should have lost to St Helens. They've faltered since the Challenge Cup. They've got some great, great players there, but Wigan look strong and powerful. If you look at it on paper, you'd have to go Wigan. But because of their big-match temperament, Leeds - although they're out on their feet - are capable of doing it. That's why it's going to be a great final.

  13. Wigan with wrongs to put rightpublished at 17:05

Leeds Rhinos v Wigan Warriors (18:00 BST)

This is Wigan's third consecutive year in the Grand Final. 2013 went well for the Warriors - they produced a stirring second-half comeback to beat Warrington Wolves.

However, their 2014 defeat by St Helens was remembered for all the wrong reasons.

Ben Flower's early red card and subsequent six-month suspension took the majority of the headlines after last year's match. Coach Shaun Wane admitted last week that he is still not over that loss.

Today, Flower and Wigan get the chance to banish the memories of 2014 once and for all.

  14. Leeds chase a treblepublished at 17:02

Leeds Rhinos v Wigan Warriors (18:00 BST)

For Leeds, there is much more at stake than the league title.

Having won the Challenge Cup in August and then pipped Wigan to the League Leaders' Shield 15 days ago, the Rhinos are on the verge of a domestic treble.

Only Bradford Bulls and St Helens have managed it before in the Super League era.

Achieving the feat would be a perfect finale for departing trio Kevin Sinfield, Jamie Peacock and Kylie Leuluai - three players that have contributed so much to the club's success in recent years.
