  1. PENALTY (Farrell)published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

Scotland overthrow at the line-out and England are on the attack inside the Scottish 22. Jim Hamilton holds on at a ruck and England can stretch their lead.

Owen Farrell approaches the ball with the trepidation of Bambi on ice but it's right in front and this time he bisects the sticks.

"The Murrayfield crowd silenced by Scotland's plague of early penalties, England have had exactly the opening quarter they wanted. Even with Farrell missing two of those penalties, England's forwards are ensuring that the home side have been unable to get any momentum or rhythm."

England hammering away around the fringes to work their way upfield before Danny Care box-kicks downfield - you can clearly see the pattern of their play.

Difficult jobs: Vladimir Putin's PR, Boris Johnson's hairdresser, goalkicker at Murrayfield.

We have a scrum... and amazingly it is completed despite the porridge like nature of the pitch, but Chris Robshaw promptly concedes a penalty.

Scott McNab:, external Early doors and we are giving away too many penalties, come on Scotland lets not repeat the Dublin show.

David:, external Danny Care running with the ball in hand is so exciting and made Burrell's try!

  6. MISSED PENALTY (Farrell)published at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

Scotland winger Sean Lamont betrays his 84 caps-worth of experience with a silly penalty but Owen Farrell pulls his kick to the left.

  7. MISSED PENALTY (Laidlaw)published at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

England infringe from the restart - winger Jonny May I think - and Brian Moore sums it up nicely. "That's dull," says the former England hooker. It's a fairly short kick but on the angle and Greig Laidlaw's natural shape sees the ball curl onto the left-hand post.

"Scott Johnson will be disappointed with that. It was man on man but in one fell swoop Burrell was able to get over."

Owen Farrell drills a penalty into the corner. England win the line-out and although Scotland resist their churning drive, Danny Care is given plenty of time to track across field and the powerful Luther Burrell cuts a superb line to power over. Great score.

"The wind at Murrayfield is quite low and swirls around. It's always tricky here."

On BBC One Brian Moore is already breaking out the Macbeth quotes - "Fair is foul, and foul is fair" - you have to admire his vaulting ambition.

On the pitch Scotland hold on after a volley of kicks and it's a penalty to England. It's going to be one of those sorts of days.

  12. MISSED PENALTY (Laidlaw)published at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

England go off their feet at a ruck but Grieg Laidlaw, captain for the day, pulls his kick to the left of the sticks.

    Brian Moore

"If Danny Care had been under pressure then he probably wouldn't have got that. But he thought 'I'll have a dig' and the ball sailed between the posts."

"Farrell's left foot completely went from underneath him for the penalty. Very, very difficult."

  15. DROP-GOAL (Care)published at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

England scrum-half Danny Care pops over a snap drop-goal and the visitors are on the board.

Scotland go offside and Owen Farrell will kick for goal. Shy peak at the sticks and then up he comes... slips and pulls his kick to the left of the posts.

Not sure if you're familiar with the Murrayfield pitch but it looks like something out of the 1970s. I'd say the only thing missing are the combovers but given the state of the turf I wouldn't put anything past the Murrayfield groundsman.

  17. Postpublished at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

Big early carry from Scottish back rower David Denton but Duncan Weir then kicks out on the full. Adrenalin pumping there for the Scottish 10.

Matt Mackenzie:, external Fusaro a big pick. If he doesn't do his job on the ground then the Scottish pack are getting battered.

Andrew Bulumakau:, external Surely England should beat Scotland, especially with the players England are putting out there!

Alex O'Loughlin:, external Time for Scotland v England in the Six Nations. Going for England by 10, but will be tight. Banking on the hosts usual inability to score tries.

It sounds strange to say it, but England were impressive in defeat last week and as a result of that - and Jonny May's return to full fitness after breaking his nose early in the game in France - they're unchanged.

The livewire Danny Care will be hoping to show he can marry an accurate kicking game in tricky conditions to his sparky play around the base, and half-back partner Owen Farrell will be expected to keep England deep in Scottish territory.
