"England's territorial advantage was so great possibly they could have won by a bigger margin. They controlled the game throughout. I'm at a loss for words about Scotland."

"It will be close," we said. "The pitch will be a great leveller."

Well, apparently not, because England were in a different class today. Too powerful up front, too lively behind the scrum, utterly imperious in the line-out (until their late radar malfunction) - there was not one facet of the game that Scotland were not humbled in.

How much of that is down to the ability of this emerging England side and how much is down to the poor quality of the Scots remains to be seen, but the Calcutta Cup is deservedly heading back to Twickenham once more.

"You can make a case for giving Chris Robshaw the man of the match and the entire England pack. But my choice is full-back Mike Brown. He's had the edge, made the metres and stood out in the England back line."

James Clay:, external Scotland have had a shocker today. They looked like an average school team at best but the pitch hasn't helped the kicking.

Andrew Smith:, external 1% of action in the England 22 in the second half. Sums up Scotland's dreadful performance.

  5. FULL-TIMEpublished at 18:41 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

Scrum England, eight metres out. Ben Morgan flicks it out the back to Lee Dickson and England try to go through the hands, but the move is as stodgy as the pitch. That was surely their last chance of a try but they'll not be too unhappy you suspect - they've been utterly dominant.

  6. Postpublished at 18:39 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

England are hammering away once more, churning their way through the mud in search of another try, and Scotland infringe yet again.

  7. Postpublished at 18:36 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

One percent of the game in the second half has taken place in the England 22. Chernobyl's seen more human activity than that.

Tom Youngs' second throw at a line-out and... he's thrown it right over everybody. Oh dear.

  8. Postpublished at 18:34 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

England march forwards at a scrum, the Scots concede a penalty and Owen Farrell kicks it into the corner.

Tom Youngs with his first throw and... England lose the ball!

Ted Ditchburn:, external This is as bad as I have seen Scotland. The fight is draining away and that leaves nothing much.

Paddy Emmerson:, external Scotland are very one dimensional and with the ball in hand just crab across the pitch. England showing a bit of penetration.

Mark Stuart:, external How Richie Gray and Kelly Brown can be nowhere near this Scottish pack I will never know.

  10. Postpublished at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

Dylan Hartley's reward for his superb line-put throwing? Being replaced, although to be fair it's really a case of "job done, have a rest son".

On comes Tom Youngs - a livewire in the loose as a replacement last weekend but a liability in the line-out - to replace Hartley.

  11. Postpublished at 18:27 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

England kick the penalty into the corner and try to drive over. Scotland drag down the maul and concede a penalty - but no card or penalty try.

Dylan Hartley and Courtney Lawes are working in perfect harmony in the line-out for England and the 20th successful line-out out of 20 sees England try to drive over again, but this time Scott Lawson manages to turn the ball over.

  12. Postpublished at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

Mako Vunipola - on at loose-head for Joe Marler, who had a fine game - thunders into Duncan Taylor. Dan Cole and Courtney Lawes get England to within a couple of metres before Scotland go offside in desperation.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 18:22 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

Joe Launchbury is like something out of a nightmare version of Tom Brown's Schooldays. The overgrown schoolboy trudges off with muddied knees and snotty nose to be replaced by all 6ft 8in of David Attwood in the England second row.

That's England's first replacement - a sign of their total dominance up front.

Scotland respond by taking off captain Greig Laidlaw - what is it with interim coach Scott Johnson and getting rid of captains? - and on comes veteran scrum-half Chris Cusiter for the hosts. Max Evans is also on for Tommy Seymour on the wing.

  14. Get Involvedpublished at 18:19 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

Andrew Priestley:, external The Scottish scrum is not up to par. England are dominating up front. They're able to turn the power on at will.

George Barrett:, external When Farrell has an off day with the boot there is no reason to keep him on the pitch.

Carl Robinson:, external England's inability to finish off games might hurt them here. But Scotland don't look like they have the quality to make them pay.

"This is the consequence of finding yourself down a man. England recognised the gap down there and Brown again beat his man to score."

London buses/Mike Brown tries. After finally breaking his England duck last week it's two in two for the Quins full-back.

Jack Nowell creates the score with some quick feet - apparently the pitch isn't that bad - to beat Matt Scott on a sixpence before drawing full-back Stuart Hogg and sending Brown striding round behind the posts.

  18. Postpublished at 18:13 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

Mike Brown makes 50m with a glorious weaving run from just outside his own 22 and Owen Farrell pins the hosts back with another precise kick.

Scotland just cannot get established in English territory.

  19. Postpublished at 18:11 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

    Chris Paterson
Former Scotland full-back on BBC One

"Denton can hold his head high, he's had a good game. He's been Scotland's most destructive ball carrier."

  20. Postpublished at 18:10 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

On comes Johnnie Beattie for David Denton at number eight - the Scots are desperate for reinforcements but Denton looks none too happy.
