Sexton makes a dog's dinner of his restart, scrum back in the middle. England have lost three of their own scrums so far and they make a hash of this one, Morgan flinging out an aimless pass to Nowell, who does well to salvage the situation. And here comes Brown, slashing through the Irish defensive line after a short pass by Morgan, inside pass to Care, under the posts. We've got ourselves a classic. Farrell with the extras...

O'Mahony with the take, Brown with a fine take under the high ball, May goes on a gander. Lawes galloping down the left wing like an escaped thoroughbred and here goes Care on the snipe... Burrell tries to smash his way through Irish lines but England fail to find the men out right. That's poor by England, very poor, their lines of communication seem to have been cut. Still, Farrell does pop over a penalty.

Ireland look like a very solid team from where I'm sitting and I'm sure most of you would agree. They don't do anything spectacular but they do the simple things very well. Ireland pumped at the breakdown, Rory Best winning a penalty, and Sexton finds touch.

  18. PENALTY (Sexton)published at 17:08 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2014

Another line-out drive from Ireland and they roll the tank to within 5m of England's line. Lawes penalised at the breakdown, Sexton with a chance to increase Ireland's lead from out right... nailed it, England on the rack...

"This is a huge 30 minutes for certain players in the white shirt. There's going to be a hint of mayhem going through that team. They've taken some shots to the head and are on the back foot. It doubles up the errors. It needs cool, calm heads. England are semi-concussed. They don't know what day it is."
